Ella Claire Gainsborough {Beauty} ([info]bookshelved) wrote in [info]bellumletale,
If I'm not meant to call you Mr. Webster, would you prefer I call you by the initials you seem so intent on clinging to for yourself?

I must argue your point regarding Hulga. Her leg was the foundation of her faith, so in losing it, what she ultimately lost was her faith. There was no love between Hulga and Manley, though I will concede there was a naive sort of hope on her part. For Hulga, her leg was the sacred and her pride stemmed from that sacredness.

Lily, in Wharton's House of Mirth, is simply the Countess, had the Countess and Newland made a choice other than they did. Lily spends the novel searching for love and respect, which she does not find. While Wharton's Countess finds that love, but cannot have it still. Wharton's women, happily ever after is not in the cards for them.

You didn't tell me why you write, elusive sir, and so I suppose inquiring about what has made you an 'unrepentant cynic,' as you called yourself, would be futile, but I will attempt it regardless. As, also, will I attempt to inquire after your health.

Was that too much concern crammed into one paragraph? If it was, you can chalk it up to curiosity.

I very much wish to hear about this confusion you're currently suffering from. I find the confusion brought about by others to be amazing, like the differing petals of a particularly complex flower. And I will argue that you do understand people. I have, after all, read your previous work. Unless your previous copy editor penned those in your stead?

I challenge you to give me a graph about your confusion. A fictional one, if you wish. Will you take up the gauntlet?

And I must tell you that I am utterly pleased to find you've admitted that I might be able to nag creativity from you. I feel it's quite an accomplishment for a lowly keyboard monkey, such as myself.

Currently in bloodhound mode,
C. Davis

P.S. Oh, dear.

P.S.S. I don't recall directly mentioning a divorce. Is my memory failing? I am quite elderly, after all.
