Taking Lily to a Quidditch game had been both a fantastic and a terrible idea at the same time. (And that wasn't because Sirius had punished James by talking about shagging Moony senseless for letting Lily take his ticket, though James could have done without that mental image too.) On the one hand, Quidditch and Lily were two of James's very favorite things, and having both of them in one day was almost enough to make his head explode with awesome. On the other hand, the tense, nail-biter game (against the Bats, not the Wasps, or James would never have even considered not bringing Sirius along) had intensely distracted him from Lily, and he had not actually managed to explain very much about Quidditch to her at all, in the midst of keeping his omnioculars practically glued to his face and interrupting himself to yell at the players.
Then again, she wanted to learn more about him, and this was definitely something important to James. He had been an Appleby Arrows fan for years, since they were pretty much his home team, had decorated his room in blue and silver when he was younger, until he got sorted into Gryffindor - now it had a red, gold, and silver theme. He had insisted that his dad take him to Quidditch games, and they had season tickets every year running as long as James could remember, even if they didn't make it to all of the games. His dad hadn't been to a game in a while, since that ticket was usually taken by Sirius, and now Lily had gotten to see something that was an enormous part of James's life and upbringing. Hopefully she could appreciate it for that much, at least - and for the sheer joy that was a Quidditch game, which James figured was irresistible to everyone - even though he wasn't sure how much of the game she had understood.
They had a dinner reservation, though, so he could explain plenty of it there. He was still all worked up and rambling on about the Appleby players and the highlights of the game, but calmed down once there was food to put in his mouth. When he'd finally taken a moment to breathe, he grinned at her across the table. "So, what did you think?"
