One hand reached up to touch his cheek as he kissed her shoulder, glad that he understood and glad that the conversation seemed to be over for now. It was too soon after this latest battle to have this discussion. The memory of his injuries was still too fresh and too raw. She already had a Last Will & Testament drawn up; it had been something necessary for the type of career she'd gotten into. She had updated it a few years ago once she and Frank had gotten serious to include him contrary to her father's advice. He'd insisted that one didn't include non-spouses in wills, but Alice had always known, as long as she'd been with Frank, that he was going to be it.
"I'll be done in a minute," she said, as Frank moved off to grab the things to set the table. "Oh, and remember forks to the left, knife and spoon on the right," she said off-handedly. She fished a serving bowl out of a cabinet and poured the finished dish into it and immediately cleaned up everything she'd dirtied up whilst cooking.
Carrying the serving bowl and a spoon into the dining room, she set the bowl down and then took her seat. As she spooned out some for Frank and herself, she contemplatively asked, "What do you anticipate for tomorrow? We should both probably be ready to make a quick exit if the worst-case scenario happens, don't you think?"
