Lily turned to bury her face against James' chest, curling her fingers tightly into the fabric of his shirt as she sat there and cried for what seemed like forever. Merlin, she loved him so much for being here when she got home, for being the man upon whose shoulder she could cry when necessary. A lesser man would have left her by now with as many times as she had subjected herself to the vicious cycle that was her friendship with Severus. Constantly letting herself open up to Severus again, baring all in hopes she'd get him back and then running back to James in tears because she inevitably got hurt. He was a good man, though, and she was so glad his arms were around her.
As her sobs subsided eventually, she said through broken gasps, "I'm s-so sorry, J-James. I k-keep d-d-doing this." A fresh wave of tears hit her and she leaned into him, letting that round finish before adding, "I d-don't know wh-why I can't g-give up on h-him. I'm a-an i-idiot."
