James was a wreck, but he wasn't worried about himself. He'd be alright as soon as he saw Lily was safe, even if she was unhappy. In this case, unhappy was the better option; it could be worse, she could be dead. James had no idea what the circumstances were in which she'd decided she had to go and see Snape, or if that decision had even been made for her, but he was very, very worried. Hell, he would rather Lily dumped him in favor of Snape than have her get terribly injured or die because of the greasy bastard, who had done absolutely nothing to earn the loyalty and friendship of someone as amazing as Lily.
Well, neither of those situations were ones that James particularly wanted to deal with. He just wanted Lily to be safe, and come back.
Waiting in her apartment, he couldn't seem to hold still. He paced the floor, hands alternately fisted in his hair, adjusting his glasses, or touching random things that he paid no attention to at all. He half expected her, or her patronus, to appear at any moment, and that feeling had only increased with time.
Be safe, he thought at her, as if she could hear him, wishing it like he was looking up at a shooting star. Except he wasn't, because he was inside. He repeated it anyway, inside his head, like a mantra. Be safe.
