If you go down in the woods today, you'd better go in disguise

Ari always felt more like themselves on the full moon. They always had, even as a small child before they knew who they were. Since remembering, their magic was always the strongest on the full moon. They were more at ease. ~~How many kills did they get on the full moon versus the new when their magic was the weakest?~~ They always wanted to seek out the wolves on the full moon. Werewolves had a connection with the moon and in turn, they felt close to the wolves. They just never really could explain it to them. Wolfy brain didn't understand English well and they didn't know who they were when they weren't wolves. A feeling, sure, like the party last month, but never for certain.

Tonight they walked the woods; they wore a white flowy dress, their feet bare as they walked. They would probably regret that choice in the morning but tonight they wanted to get in touch with nature. Maybe nature would tell them how to handle Sun and how to find Star. Or find Star enough to shove Sun at them. They could hear the howls of the wolves. Perhaps they could find them and run with them.

Ari + Jesse + Fen

They could hear the howls. They were close. They thought about howling back. That might be weird. They weren’t actually the moon. They tilted their face to the full moon. Lucky celestial body being bathed in the Sun’s light. They wondered if they should have invited Creed on their walk. He’d understand. And yet…

They stepped forward and then saw the wolves; beautiful, majestic, powerful and strong. They smiled softly. Please let them run with them. Let them be with them. Please.

They watched for a moment longer.

Running with his pack under the light of the full moon felt more natural than breathing. And this time, he had his mate to join their ranks. Everything had been perfect lately. Jesse raced ahead of the pack and howled to the moon. Though running together with the pack was fun, he was also on high alert as Alpha. It was his job to protect his pack from whatever dangers may be lurking.

Jesse lifted his head as they neared a less dense part of the forest. More openings meant danger could more easily find them. He caught an unfamiliar scent that made the hair along the ridge of his back stand on end. It didn't take much effort to catch a glimpse of the stranger across the way. It was obvious whoever it was was watching his pack. Jesse growled low, ready to take them down if they were a threat.

Fenrir was close behind his Alpha. He knew Jesse was thrilled to run with his Luna and the Beta was perfectly content to simply keep a watchful eye as he also monitored his own mate.

The rise of a strangers scent had already tensed Jesse but the Beta made a wide bank around, a blur of shadow silently slipping behind the two-legs. He sniffed and narrowed his eyes. What was that? He felt...curious. This one didn't seem threatening. No weapons. No tensed muscles. They did not smell of strange things like the mages who cast fire or rain.

Slowly he stalked closer and tilted his head. Who were they? Why were they here? Did they not see the signs? They'd posted warnings not to trespass....Granted, they couldn't say 'Werewolf territory' but for anyone who had a keen nose? They'd know.

He paused a few feet from the stranger and briefly locked eyes with Jesse. If they tried anything- Fenrir would be ready to swiftly take action.

Ari saw the wolves and sat down, hoping to be less threatening. The one that growled, he had to be the Alpha. They rested their hands on their lap, palms up. See? They were harmless.

“Hello,” they said, their voice gentle, “I would like to run with you and celebrate the moon with you tonight. If you would let me. My name is Ari.”

They waited. If the wolves accepted them, they would be so happy. But if they kept going, they wouldn’t push. Their life belonged to Sun, after all.

He didn't take his eyes off of the stranger. Not for one second. Even as Fen moved around to flank them. Being in tune with his pack and especially his Beta as he crept closer, he wasn't getting a sense of fear from Fen but a sort of curiosity. While Jesse would rather turn his back on a stranger on their lands, it was more dangerous to ignore them with the whole pack running. He wouldn't risk someone getting hurt. He crept forward, determined to discover what exactly it was that this person wanted because he wasn't so sure he believed they wanted to celebrate the moon with them.

After a moment, after they sat and spoke, Jesse continued getting closer to the other person, snarling and snapping his teeth together. But as he got closer, towering over them as they sat on the ground, he rumbled deep and pushed his nose to the top of their head. He took in their scent and huffed then poked his nose about their body, sniffing and growling. They didn't make any warning bells sound in his head. It was strange. Now that he was up close, it almost felt like there was a weak connection between this person and his wolf. Something he couldn't really explain. But after a moment, his growls faded to soft rumbles while he nosed their hair.

Fen watched, muscles tightened if he needed to spring into action but then Jesse was sniffing this Ari’s hair and the Beta stepped forward.

Sniffing Ari from behind, he nuzzled against their throat and took in deep breaths. This one didn’t smell bad. No anger. In fact, something about their scent was like finding an old friend.

He tail swayed slightly and Fen rose up enough to drape his big front legs over the strangers shoulders then ruffled their hair as he snorted and sniffed. Satisfactory results met, he let out a grunt and dropped down only to look to Jesse. Seems okay, right?

Ari should have been afraid but they weren’t. Not really. A snapping wolf was no joke but they believed that their energy would radiate to these wolves. They couldn’t help but grin as the big wolf snuffed their hair. The other came around and it was kind of like a doggy hug! They giggled as they were sniffed.

“Friend,” they said softly, “I just want to run with you tonight. The moon, she sings to me too. Also you guys are so handsome and beautiful!” They grinned. Please be friend?

They raised a hand slowly, “Can I pet you?” Please? They looked so soft and adorable!

Jesse watched Fen checking Ari out as well. He didn’t move away just yet, keeping himself almost standing over them in a display of dominance. They seemed okay. But he would never apologize for being protective of his family when it came to random people approaching them on their territory. Jesse poked his nose to Fen’s cheek fluff with a soft huff then went back to nosing Ari’s hair and down to their cheek, inhaling deep.

The moon. Ari’s scent reminded him of the moon somehow. A deep rumble vibrated in his chest at their question. His eyes finally met theirs and held their gaze for a long moment before he moved a bit and rested his head on their shoulder. If they wanted to pet, he would allow it.

That was an improvement! Fen rumbled and pressed his cool nose to Ari's cheek. They did smell funny! But in a good way.

His tail swayed as he circled around the funny two-legs again, keeping an eye on his Alpha and sparing one glance toward his cautious Luna who was slowly pacing larger circles around them- probably uncertain if Jesse was okay.

Fen rumbled and nodded toward the other wolf who slowed to a stop, eyes locked on Jesse. Mate bonds were difficult to ignore.
Approaching his Alpha, Fen gently nuzzled the big wolf as if to say 'I think we're okay'.

Ari didn’t move. Let them sniff and huff and snort and decide. Then the big one, probably the Alpha, rested his head on their shoulder and they grinned. Acceptance! They hoped. Slowly, they reached and ran their fingers through his fur. Soft. He was warm too. They wanted to curl up with these wolves and cuddle. Maybe after running.

“Thank you,” they said softly, “I know. Stranger danger. But I’ve always been drawn to you guys. I promise I’ll let you tear out my throat before I harm you.” That was a bit graphic, wasn’t it? They meant it, however.

Jesse could feel his mate circling close by, watching. Perhaps it would be okay for him to come over. Fen's nuzzle and soft reassurance helped Jesse relax a bit. The wolf huffed at their graphic promise though it was good to know they understood what could happen if they betrayed his trust. Though he still felt the smallest twinge of unease around Ari, the gentle glide of their fingers through his thick fur was very pleasant. The Alpha found himself leaning more of his weight into Ari with a deep rumble. It was nice... So nice that he could easily see himself falling asleep on them like this.

Fen didn't feel like tearing anyone's throat out, honestly. He was more than happy with the option of being able to continue on their little run. It was nice to get some energy out.

Fen moved back as Jesse seemed to lean into the touch. He snorted softly, tugged at Ari's sleeve, then circled around them with a slowly wagging tail and a curious gaze. Running soon, right? Because he really didn't want to get the zoomies in front of their newest guest.

Ari would love to see wolf zoomies. Just saying.

They glanced at the other wolf as he tugged at their sleeve. God, they couldn't stop smiling. This was perfect. No, what would make it perfect would have Sun here but other than that? This was perfect. The weight of the big wolf? That soft noise? So nice.

"Thank you," they said again, "Do you want to keep being pet? Or shall we run? Or you run and I desperately try to keep up?" They weren't sure if they could actually keep up with the wolves but they wanted to try. They wanted the night with these beautiful creatures.
