Who: Charles and Moira When: Around 1964 during the fall through '65 and '66 Where: Oxford University, England What:A meeting of minds.
Charles had been watching his fellow female student in genetics for about two weeks now. The young brunette had caught his eye when she answered a complicated genetics question in one of their shared classes together. She had impressed him with her smarts, confidence, and cute little Scottish accent she had. However, she was also a saucy sassy young lady, and he saw male after male in their shared classes try to engage with her, and she would to a point, and then ultimately rebuff them. He was nervous about approaching her, until one day she made eye contact with him, and smiled.
Moira had noticed Charles the first day of classes. His debonaire, suave, and intellectual personality catching her interest. She rebuffed the other boys because she was hoping that Mr. Xavier would ask her out. At one point in order to get to know him better she teamed up with him in a lab session as a lab partner. They talked and seemed to get along well.
Charles was trying to work up the courage to ask her out, but so far he was unsure. He was a cautious, calculating, however determined young man. He had not been the most popular boy at school when in high school, but the fact that he had played some sports, and was a handsome young man he had his little block of close friends. He was sort of the middle man, able to get along with everyone so it made him have friends in a wide variety of different groups. It made his personalty more well rounded. He wasn't a nerd, but he was definitely more inclined to be the scholarly then anything else.
Moira was the daughter of a powerful Scots nobleman Lord Kinross. All her life she had been working toward making something of herself, trying to detach herself to her families strong political, and aristocratic ways. She loved her family. However, she didn't want to be used somehow by her father to gain more political and powerful alliances. So she used her exceptional intellect to excel in her studies. She ended up going to Oxford, after a stellar run in school which indeed made her family proud of her. Their daughter was smart and even though they were going to get her married off to someone that would be a good alliance for their family despite her rising in her educational endeavors.
One day while in class once again they were partnered together and Charles finally decided to make his move. "Would you like to go out to dinner with me this weekend?" He asked, Moira smiled and in her saucy way responded, "Well, I thought you never would ask. I was going to give you another week and ask you to do something even if it was a silly study group thing." She winked at him. "I would love to, Charles." Charles chuckled, and responded, "Well, you can be a bit intimidating. Plus all those other guys you rebuffed, well... I didn't know if I had a chance." Moira's eyes glittered and she said softly, "I was rebuffing them because I wanted some tall, sleek, debonaire young man that I had partnered with a couple times to ask me." She coyly looked down and then looked up through her lashes at him.
That weekend they went out on their first date, and spent the next year together. By the end of the year they were engaged, despite her families not sure about this american young man. However, their romance would be put on hold, and any type of future wedding plans too as Xavier was drafted into the Vietnam War. He made his way through this war as a soldier in search and rescue missions. It was during this that while trying to stay alive, and come back to Moira to eventually marry her, he got his heart broken. She sent him a letter that was basically a 'dear John' letter saying she had to break up with him. That she couldn't handle the stress of not knowing what was going to happen to him.
Shortly after that he was discharged and decided to wonder the world to heal his broken heart. Eventually he found out that Moira had got married. However, he was a bit alarmed to find out through mutual friends that the man she married, or was married to through her parents wants and needs beat her. This truly worried him, however, there was nothing he could do. He contacted her a few times, but only got that she was fine, and her life was just great. Charles knew differently but if she didn't want help there was nothing he could do. He said he would always be there for her as a friend, and that if she ever wanted a shoulder to cry on, someone to talk to, or just support he would be there for her. They hugged, and Charles went off for more adventures out in the world.
