Owl: From Alicia to Cass When: December 24, 2003 Who: Alicia Spinnet and Cass Vaisey Private/Public: Private Rating: Most likely G Summary: Alicia promised Cass an Owl with an update…
Christmas at the Spinnet house has – as always – been an experience of inventiveness and dodgeability. Each year provided the Spinnet siblings with rich opportunity of finding inventing new ways to distract their father… and new ways of dodging that very same responsibility.
It had started just before noon, when they had all arrived, in accordance to their mother’s schedule for the day. That was about the time when Darren Spinnet decided that it was about time he began turning his load of purchases from the market into the family’s Christmas dinner. The trick then was, to arrive just in time for him to have started, in order to distract him, thereby giving Helena a chance to casually take over the preparation of the food, thus ensuring the edibility of the food later on.
Alicia was the first to arrive, and couldn’t help but grumble a bit at her brothers’ decision that with Aidan in tow, she would be able to make the best first distraction of the day. It really wasn’t fair, because that meant that she would have to be the initiator, whereas Sam and Nigel would only have to show up and play along later.
They had – once again – been successful, and after Alicia had put Aidan to bed, she decided that it was time to make good on a promise she had made. It still made her smile. Just thinking about it, sent a rush through her, and for a good long while, he thoughts went up north – way north – to where Oliver was celebrating Christmas with his family.
While Alicia hadn’t told her family about them yet – she was going to… later – Cass deserved to know that things had progressed in the right direction, so sitting down by her dad’s desk, she pulled out a Christmas card she had bought earlier, and began writing.
I don’t kiss and tell.
Merry Christmas, Cass, and thank you for everything you did.
Lunch, soon?
~Alicia
Biting her lower lip to keep from grinning like a mad woman, Alicia tied the card to a small sprig of mistletoe, before she sent it off with her Owl. He would understand, at least she hoped he would.
