Tricks Gone Bad!
From The Kent Chronicle
Margate residents got some extra frights last night when several executive members of the Thanet District Council were seen in situations that can only be described as shocking. William Severs, eight and his older sister Mary, eleven, were accosted on their way home from a Halloween party by a man they identified as Norman Francis. Francis grabbed young William and tried to force him into a car. The boy’s struggles and his sister’s screams attracted a passer-by who wrestled briefly with the man before Francis ran off. The Good Samaritan, Roger Miller, as well as Mary Severs, recognised Francis, a ten-year member of the council. “I voted for the b*****d,” Miller told this reporter in disgust. Miss Severs said she recognised Miller from a talk he gave at her school. “He tried to grab my brother,” the young lady said indignantly. “He’s a bad man.” Little William Severs was distraught, both by the attempted abduction and the fact that all of his Halloween candy ended up in the gutter. Vicky Severs, mother of the two children, says she plans to pursue criminal charges against Francis. “He should rot in jail! Who knows what else he’s done?”
Later last evening, Star Twinkle (real name Pansy Bupp), a woman with two previous arrests for prostitution, went to the emergency room of Margate Hospital with a sprained right elbow and various abrasions and contusions. When asked how she had acquired the injuries, Miss Twinkle, who refers to herself as an entrepreneur, said she had entered a business deal with executive council member Jeffrey Lynne. “Sure I recognised him,” Miss Twinkle told doctors. “Seen him on telly often enough. He tried to welsh on me and when I told him he’d better pay up, he twisted my arm and shoved me into an alley wall. He run off when he heard voices.” Since Miss Twinkle has two previous arrests and has admitted that she took money from Mr Lynne in return for sex, it is unclear whether any criminal charges against Mr Lynne would be forthcoming. Miss Twinkle did add that the business deal was not consummated.
And lastly, CCTV images captured near the Eaton Road Overpass, revealed Council Member Maurice Evans making a purchase of what is presumed to be illegal drugs from known dealer Richard ‘Tug’ Roberts. Neither Roberts nor Evans was apprehended, but Evans’ image was clearly visible in the lights from the street.
When police went round to the houses of the various council members, they professed to have no knowledge of events and vehemently denied any involvement. Indeed, all three of them said they had been asleep and had no recollection of the past few hours. Their stories were greeted with obvious scepticism by police, but CID Clive Abernathy said they would treat these cases like any others, with no preferential treatment given. “We’ve got eyewitnesses and CCTV evidence,” Abernathy told this reporter. “It’s going to be pretty tough for them to get out of this.”
One has to wonder what effect this is going to have on the Thanet District Council. At the very least, resignations are expected, if not criminal convictions. The remaining members of the council had no comment on the situation, but said an emergency session has been called for 9.00 Monday, November second, to discuss the matter.
