"I regret," he denies it, and then looks disappointed. "Alas. And up to this point it was such a charming tale of dignity under fire." He brightens. "This wasn't the fellow you became to test Lockhart, was it?"
"It is," he assures him. "Enough of cause for what you've described. I wanted to be sure there weren't any contributing causes."
"But I don't care to be bothered fighting them twice," he explains. "You can chase them off after they've been made to think themselves insane, though," he offers, "as long as you allow them to run away." He smiles, or at least shows teeth. "The point is for them to remember that they wanted to run away."
