He takes a fresh sheet of paper and details his precautions, turning it around when he's done so they can both read it. "I don't need to be told it's an incomplete list," he says aloud. "I was hoping you both could fill in what I've missed. Nor do I think Margate alone in chanced sorrows; I'll catch nearby towns in the next few tomorrows."
Despite everything, he has to regard the pipe ritual with literary delight.
