Q listens raptly, his chin propped in his hand. He frowns when Sirius mentions welcoming the change.
He nods at each point Sirius makes but at the last he sits up abruptly. "Really? You mean," he swallows, "if there was anything...left...I couldn't change?" He grins with desperate eagerness. "That's wonderful! I've got to learn to do this! It would solve everything!"
"We?" Q looks baffled for an instant. "Who...? Oh." He smiles. "I should have known. All of the Horsemen, right?" He goes on. "So I'd be able to see beforehand if I'd turn into say, something that could only live in water? And there's nothing inherently bad about a grim. There are bad omens and good omens. Death isn't always unwelcome."
"As long as I don't have to fast for a week beforehand," he comments. "Er, so, would you be willing to teach me? I think I've gotten all I can out of these." He waves a hand at the books. "I'd compensate you for your time of course." That sounds so crass, but he feels it should be mentioned.
"A road runner," he says flatly, slumping in his chair. "For all the good it did me," he remarks bitterly.
A very good point. *hugs him too* Also, Q is highly suggestible, if that will have any effect on his learning to change.
