James Gordon was still reeling from the kiss… Batman had kissed him that night in the alleyway. That one chaste kiss had invaded his every waking moment since and his dreams replayed it over again every night. His thoughts began to affect his job performance, and in Gotham City, he could not afford to let his guard down.
This new threat, the Joker, was vicious and cunning. He had hampered Lt. Gordon's efforts at every turn. It was the Joker who’d put him in this precarious situation and now, his life hung in the balance once more.
Tied to a pole and drugged out of his mind, Lt. Gordon tried to put his life into some sort of perspective. The demands of his position had finally driven his family away. His wife simply couldn't cope anymore, so she'd left him, taking their children with her. He was very alone now. He had but one hope, the hope that was always present in the back of his mind… Batman
James Gordon blinked as his eyes gradually began to focus, turning his world from gray to color. He felt warm and comfortable. He surveyed his environment. Rock walls surrounded him on all sides and a rock ceiling hung above him. A cave of some sort--he was in a cave. He took a quick peek under the covers of the large bed, only to discover that he was completely naked and clean. Someone had cleaned him up and bandaged his cuts.
A shadowy figure appeared at the periphery of his vision. Jim knew who it was. Apparently, the Dark Knight had saved him yet again. He never believed in fairy tales, but if a Prince Charming really did exist, Jim had found his.
Batman sat down on the bed next to him and gently stroked his face. He wasn’t wearing the gloves this time and Jim could readily feel the heat of his hand against his cheek. Jim sighed with contentment.
"What happened, Batman? The last thing I remember is being tied to a pole and that maniac’s hysterical laughter."
"I tracked one of the Joker’s henchmen to their lair, but they all fled as soon as I arrived. My main concern was your safety, so I didn’t follow them. I just got you out of there as quickly as I could."
"I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me you might have caught them. Where are we, by the way?" Jim asked, looking around the cave.
"I call it the Bat Cave, but I guess it’s home."
"A very interesting abode you have here." Jim commented in awe. "How much do I owe you now, Batman? You seem to be making a career out of saving my life. I’ll never be able to repay you."
"You don’t have to. All I want is you. If you think that’s what you want too?"
Jim didn’t hesitate. He answered with a resounding, "Yes."
Batman smiled, leaning in close, he gave Jim a real kiss, their first real kiss; long, sweet and passionate.
When he pulled away, Jim was breathless and his eyes were shining.
"Who are you, Batman?" Jim asked softly.
"I’ll tell you soon, when things have settled down. I promise. Right now, it’s just too dangerous."
"Yes, especially with me getting myself kidnapped every other day."
"Don’t put yourself down. It wasn’t your fault. The Joker is insane and he doesn’t care how many lives he puts in jeopardy. I’m not going to let this happen again. I’ve put a tracking device inside your watch. If you ever get captured again just push the button on the backside and I’ll know you’re in danger. I’ll be able to find you wherever you are."
"I can’t imagine what I would do without you, Batman."
"And you’ll never have to," Batman replied as he pulled Jim close for another searing kiss.
