Sentient : Part 1
Fandom:Transformers - Movieverse
Rating:PG
Summary:The Allspark fragment goes missing. Tensions build up between man and machine, and that's just the nonsentient ones.
Author notes: By the time this is anywhere near finished, it will probably become AU.
Disclaimer: Transformers belong to Hasbro.
"Where is the Allspark fragment?!" Ironhide's voice thundered through the base.
Three months previous
"If I could study what is left..."
"No, Ratchet. The Allspark is not to be touched."
"But, Optimus..."
"It's as the human's would say, its sacrilege." Ironhide growled the last word.
"We need to know if it can ever give life again. If it cannot, then our species is doomed to extinction." Ratchet needed the others to see reason, if it meant going against generations of taboo, then so be it.
"I understand how you feel, but we cannot violate that which gave us life." Optimus Prime's tone was patient. Ratchet's request made sense, but there was a mystery about the Allspark. The symbols had been studied for millions of years on Cybertron but they had never probed beyond its surface. They didn't have a religion like a lot of the humans did. But as their creator, to study the internal workings of the Allspark? The closest comparison was to that of humanity dissecting their gods. His thoughts were interrupted by Ratchet's voice.
"What about the humans?"
"The humans?"
"They don't hold the Allspark in same regard as us."
Ironhide growled again. "Where's the difference? Between letting them touch it or doing it ourselves, we're still meddling in something that shouldn't be touched."
Ratchet knew he would face opposition over this, but refused to let them daunt him now. "We need to something, or face extinction. We will not continue to function forever."
Optimus Prime decided it was time to put an end to the disagreement that was about to break out between the two before it started. Cybertron was dead, the Allspark lost. It was time to move on. "Ratchet, work with the humans. Find out what you can." He silenced the rumble that came from Ironhide with a hand. "This needs to be done, old friend."
"But the humans? For them to have any chance to understand the Allspark, they need to understand us. I'm not comfortable with letting a potential enemy have extensive knowledge like that. Its tactical suicide."
"The humans can be trusted."
"Not all. They are a potential threat."
"No, not all, Ironhide. But not all of them are to be mistrusted either."
Ironhide knew the debate was over. He was satisfied enough for now that his leader hadn't taken leave of his logic circuits in favour of his seeming softness for the small organic creatures.
