The Queen's frustration began to grow once more as the young witch questioned her again, but before her temper flared Moussette went still and silently considered the events of the evening. It was clear from the lack of an accent that the little one was not from these parts, and the ignorance could be forgiven if that were the case. As vain as the old witch was, even she could not find fault with the simple questions and the lack of recognition.
"Very well child. Since you are not from this place, than my gift to you shall be the truth long since hidden behind smoke and legends." With a quiet sigh Moussette looked past the girl and stared into her own past memories, recalling the details that she had long forgotten. After a few quiet moments the Voodoo Mama spoke up again, offering a little smile.
"A century and a half ago I came to the outskirts of this city, and in the bayou to the South I found a place to call my own. Within my domain sprung up a court filled with the most talented musicians and artists this world has ever known, and every year the most skilled of them all came to play for my entertainment." The Queen's smile grew as she recalled the music that filled her halls, her body swaying to an unheard beat.
"It wasn't magic, wealth, or power that held my interest little sister...it was the passion and fire of the truly gifted that gave my immortality meaning! Yet the witches of the South cared little for songs and celebrations, so I built a small army to keep them from intruding. I simply wished to be left in peace, unbothered by politics and power hungry fools. I remained neutral during the the last century and because I chose isolation, the city left me alone."
Her frown deepened as Moussette looked around the empty bar and the silence bothered her greatly. With the wave of her hand the band reappeared on stage, blissfully unaware of the scene around them, and with a nod from the old witch they began to softly play an instrumental piece.
"I am trapped her by a foolish witch's spell, yet I will once again remain neutral. For time has no meaning to me little sister, and when I am free of this place I shall return home to my adoring servants and to my court of musicians...to side against the king would serve only to bring ruin to my small piece of paradise, and that will not do."
