Rebekah opened her mouth to respond, but Elijah was already coming to. "Not too long, but the longer you are daggered, the harder it is. You need blood," she answered quietly. Luckily, Elijah hadn't been out for months or worse yet, years. He'd be okay, almost himself again, in an hour or so tops. Elijah sat up, moving to push himself from his temporary prison, but Rebekah reached out with a hand to steady him. It was unnecessary, but she loved her brother, no matter how foolish he was when it came to their other one. "Elijah. I'm not staying. I came because I hadn't heard from you." She didn't add the part about figuring their lovely half-brother daggered him.
"I guess I should have figured it was because of our dear brother-" she broke off. There was brief glance of blue eyes between Hayley and the eldest Mikaelson. Something was different. The way he responded, but then again, Elijah always had a way of inspiring people's loyalty and trust in him. Seeing Hayley's reaction to him shouldn't have surprised her. Deep down, Elijah was a good man with a weakness for those he loved. It was why he always ended up back with his brother, attempting to salvage what was left of their sibling bond.
"Will you stop trying to defend him, Elijah," she exclaimed, a bit of frustration evident in her tone. "You're more than a great brother to him. He's just selfish and out for himself. He doesn't know how to love and that is hardly your fault." It was pointless. How many times had she had this conversation with Elijah? It always produced the same result, didn't it?
