How could separation ever be a good thing? Elena always figured the more time apart people spend, especially in relationships, the easier it was for them to be apart. They got use to the distance, the space, and eventually had no desire to ever come back together again. She didn't want to think that Damon would never come back to her. He was just grieving, as he should be for his brother and there was nothing else to it...right? With Katherine in the mix, the brunette wasn't all together to sure of it. Damon wouldn't cheat on her, would he? In such a emotional time, a lapse of judgement could occur, but she had to believe that the elder Salvatore loved her and only her. He'd always said he'd always choose her, didn't he? Why should she start doubting it now? It wasn't like Katherine had never been in the mix before, with either brother, but it had never mattered. Then again, neither of them had ever made her messanger girl before either.
At Caroline's words, the other vampire frowned. Klaus...there for her? It didn't seem logical. He wasn't there for anyone ever, but himself. Yes, he had feelings for Caroline, it was more than a bit obvious with the way she seemed to have him wrapped around her finger, but he hadn't ever comforted her before. "He...was there for you? Really? We are talking about the same Klaus, right?" Klaus being nice, even to Caroline, didn't add up. He had to have wanted something in return. There was this war going on. Maybe he was trying to get her to join his side. That made more sense than the original hybrid ever doing anything out of the kindness of his heart. Most of the time, Elena was convinced he didn't have one. He daggered his own siblings constantly. If you couldn't love your family, even a little, how could you care for someone else? And they'd stood by him despite everything he'd taken from them! It didn't make any sense.
Her hand found her wine and she lifted the glass to her lips for a long sip. Klaus wasn't nice. He was the villian if she'd ever seen or heard of one. He might haved saved them at graduation and saved Damon's life, but one good deed didn't erase a lifetime of evil ones. He had only come back because Caroline asked him to, no other reason. There had to be reason for his behavior here too. It could have just been Elena's best friend, but the brunette was too used to it being something else and something usually quite sinister. "I don't know, Care. Do you really think he's sincere?" The blond didn't seem so sure either, but he'd been there when none of them were and she knew that stuck. You didn't forget someone who helped you.
