Mai's weight shifted towards Zuko as his hand reached towards her, welcoming his uninvited touch. But as he pulled away, she too recoiled, and her cheeks started to burn with shame for betraying herself that easily.
She stepped into the narrow space between two of the weathered stone buildings, and scuffled through the dirt in her stiff clothes, trying to appear somewhat graceful as she clumsily made her way to the crate across from where Zuko had stopped.
She paused, facing him, looking at him plainly. Their initial encounter was a rushed flurry of movement. She was so up in her head that she hadn't taken a chance to get a good look at the exiled prince--now a young man.
Before she could be accused of staring, she quickly darted her eyes to her feet, and started straightening her Earth Kingdom clothes. "You've gotten taller." She figured she'd state the obvious to start. It was a safe bet, neither rude nor overly affectionate.
