Rainy Day
Who: Eddie and Nikki
Where: Java Hut
When: Friday, April 20th - Afternoon
After finishing work early for the day, Eddie decided to take a walk but before he could get too far it started to rain. Normally he didn't mind the rain so much, but today he wasn't in a mood to get drenched, so he walked into the first door he came across, soon finding himself in a coffee shop. He wrinkled his nose as soon as the smell of coffee hit his nostrils, but his expression changed quickly when someone passed him holding a hot chocolate. Now that smelled appealing. He went over to the counter and ordered one, brushing his slick hair back and away from his face. He probably looked a little worse for wear, as he was still in his work overalls and had grease patches on his arms and neck, and he hoped that he didn't offend anyone. He decided to go over to one of the tables that you could stand at after collecting his drink, not wanting to get dirt or grease all over the stores furniture.
Nikki herself had wanted to go to the beach today, but instead, when it started to rain, figured that maybe she could get a little bit of homework done at the Java Hut. Of course, when she got there, she realized that she was feeling too restless to really be in the mood to do any homework. She couldn't wait until she could graduate from high school and be done with it. Of course, then came college and it just kept coming. She really couldn't wait until she was actually working, to tell the truth.
Shutting her books, she sighed and got up, heading up to the counter to order herself another hot chocolate as well. If she wasn't going to do school work, she could at least get another drink.
Eddie almost bumped into her when he was walking over to the table that he'd picked, hot drink in hand, his eyes flicked up to meet hers briefly and he said a quick 'sorry' before moving around her. She looked a bit frustrated to him, honestly. She did smell nice, though. After finding his table, he set his drink down and looked over at Nikki again. He really wished that he could place what perfume or deodorant she was wearing. It would bother him for the rest of the day until he figured it out.
Actually, if he had simply asked, she'd have been happy to tell him. She didn't see it as a weird 'personal space invador' or anything. She just didn't think like that. When she had gotten her drink, she headed over to his table. "Sorry for running into you back there," she said to him. "Kinda getting agitated with homework, actually."
Part of the fun was trying to figure something out for yourself, though. When she walked over to him, he looked back down at the table. He'd always had trouble keeping eye contact with strangers. "I kind of figured," he replied, smiling slightly and glancing over her table. "Just... can't focus, or is it not your favorite subject?"
"A little from column A, a little from column B," Nikki admitted to him with a smile. "Mostly just focus, though. I was planning on going to the beach today, but with the rain and all, wasn't able to. I guess my mind is still on the outside rather than in."
"I like outside, usually." He liked the fresh, new smells particularly. As a Werebear he lived a lot by his sense of smell. That was part of the reason that Aiden was one of his favorite people. Her scent. "But not today," he told her.
"Me, too," she said to him. That was likely why she much preferred to be around animals, too. She associated animals with outside, a lot of the time, even house pets.
His mind went back to her mention of going to the beach and he glanced out the window. He'd have liked to have run through the woods, himself, but it didn't appear that the rain would let up anytime soon. He told her as much. "Give it another few weeks or so and you could go to the beach every day if you wanted."
"Oh and I can't wait until that," Nikki admitted to him. "I would adore being able to play around at the beach every day." She did love being out in the sunlight and just not having to think about homework.
"Maybe you'll see me out there then," he replied. He'd thought a few times in the past that if he wasn't a mechanic, then he'd be a fisherman. Then again, there were so many things that could go wrong with cars. It challenged him. He shrugged and met her eyes briefly.
She smiled at him when he looked up at met her eyes. Even though she wasn't trying, she couldn't help but catch a bit of his thoughts, which seemed to jump around a lot. It was also odd that she was getting more emotional impressions than real thoughts. It happened rarely. "I wouldn't mind that," she said to him.
"Good," he replied, nodding. He wasn't really sure what else to say to keep the conversation going, so instead he took a sip of his hot chocolate, groaning happily at the taste. He was glad that the weather dragged him in here today.
"God, aren't these things amazing?" she asked with a smile, taking a sip of her own drink. "I'm not sure if it's just extra sugar or what, but no one else in town makes a better cup of hot chocolate."
He managed to snag one of the marshmallows from his drink and plopped it in his mouth, nodding his head and rolling his eyes in agreement. He was a meat eater, but the occasional sugary treat was heaven. "If I didn't want to keep my figure I'd be here every day," he joked(!).
She giggled. "I have kind of a high metabolism, so I guess I get away with it." Nikki did love her some sugar and chocolate.
"You must be the envy of a lot of girls," he replied. He'd flipped through a Cosmo while in line at the supermarket, okay?
She shrugged. "I figured it was a teenager thing. In ten years I'm going to be screaming about how I didn't watch what I ate when I was a kid," she joked.
He chuckled. "I like exercising," he told her. "Can't really get flabby if you're constantly doing something."
"Well I do get around a lot," she said. "You know, with exercising and stuff." GOD that sounded kind of bad. UGH. Yes Nikki, say something stupid to the cute guy, please.
Fortunately he didn't realize the sexual connotations to what she said this time around, so no harm, no foul. "Well you should keep up with that stuff. The you ten years from now would probably appreciate it."
Well thank heavens for that. "Well, that's the plan, so hopefully it shouldn't be an issue," she said to him with a smile.
