Characters: Cal and Sebastian Setting: Cal's apartment, the day after Aiden's visit Content: Work safe Summary: Cal and Sebastian hang out together after Cal's rough week
Cal snapped his book shut and let a rush of air escape from his lungs. It was a rare day that even Atticus Finch couldn't cheer him up. Rising from his supine position on the couch, he carefully replaced To Kill a Mockingbird to its rightful place on the shelf and retrieved the various dishes that littered the coffee table, placing them in the sink. Why did everything feel so empty now? Cal had gotten so little sleep the previous night that it took a special effort to stay awake during work. He'd even resorted to coffee at one point, although, as usual, it didn't help much. As he absently scrubbed his dishes, Cal's eyes kept pulling themselves back to the phone on the wall. Perhaps, in this situation where his favorite literary characters would help much, real human contact would. It was worth a try, at least. After drying his hands on a dishtowel, Cal approached his phone, staring at it for a few moments before picking it up and dialing a familiar string of numbers. He let it ring a few times and listened to the recorded message, his heart sinking a little. Waiting patiently for the beep, he spoke, his voice markedly less cheerful than Bas was probably used to.
"Hey Bas. It's Cal. It's been a while... Call me?"
Cal hung up and returned to his dishes. Now he could only wait.
