Today was René Favarolo's birthday. He was an Argentine cardiac surgeon whose work revolutionized his field. Super modest, he was reluctant to be called the 'father' of the coronary bypass surgery but come on -- he invented the saphenous aortocoronary bypass, which is what we do today: take a vein out of your leg, and use it to re-route blood flow.

Google has honoured him today with the coolest little doodle and appropriately enough, I spent my early morning doing an emergency double bypass.

Cheers, Dr. Favarolo! I hope you're enjoying some barbacoa up there in doctor heaven, where everyone listens to you, no one lies about what medications they're already on, and your scrubs stay clean.

Thank you, I will.

I am not yet used to hearing that word in reference to me. Being a father was not something I ever thought possible, but I could not be more happy about it.

I'm really glad to hear that. I think you both will be wonderful parents, and I can't wait to go on this journey with you both...

...and wow, that was such doctor speak, but it's true!

As first time parents, we are grateful to have your help throughout all of this.

I wouldn't have the slightest idea of how to actually parent a child. No children of my own, no desire.

But Dr. Christine will be on stand-by at 3 in the morning when either of you want to know if it's normal for a kid to spit up THAT much formula. (Answer: yes, yes it is.) I'd rather you called me than googled. Google would just freak you out more.

Actually, tell Wanda she can call me anytime. I think she knows that, but I should make sure she really does.

Part of my programming allows for instant information download and transfer. It's a little like google. Which means I have access to all manner of horror stories regarding childbirth, and have spent entirely too much time worrying over potential situations that are unlikely.

So having an actual doctor’s discernment and opinion is a much better solution, I appreciate that. I’ll be sure to reiterate your offer to Wanda. And I apologize in advance for contacting you at all hours of the night.

Don't even worry about it. My life is on-call anyways. I have a pager, a cell phone, another cell phone and something else that I don't even understand.

What I'm saying is -- you guys calling me would be a break from anyone else calling me.

And yes -- google is garbage. Listen to me. Not Google. Or Stephen. He's slightly smarter than me, but don't let him know I said that. It'd go to his head ;) Annnnd if I'm giving doctors' props, Bruce is a pretty damn good one too.

so see? You're surrounded by amazing medical professionals who care. <3

I will be sure to thrash his ego at my earliest convenience.

Thank you though, truly. Bruce is indeed an excellent source as well. I am grateful that Wanda will be surrounded by such excellent care.

You do that.

I'm going to crochet so many blankets! It's very exciting. When are you guys going to officially announce it?

I will need to speak with Wanda about that. Our focus has primarily been on how to extract the demon entity first.

Technically, we have both the pregnancy to announce and our engagement as well.

No luck on that end, huh? That's awful.

And goodness, that's a lot of happy news!

None so far, unfortunately. Stephen is still working on it though.

It is. We have quite a lot to celebrate, while at the same time we are both dealing with the concern of our child's well being. It is a strange mixture of emotions, most days I feel more joy than fear however.
