So. The time stone reacted to my other self showing up. Meeting your other self inadvertently? Not merely a trope. It really is a bad idea.

Your calendars and date settings aren't wrong. It was 2019. It really is four years in the future and it really is 2023 now.

Sorry.

So that's why I blinked and am now blonde.

Also why I blinked and my bank account stayed the same. Oh wait -- that's because even though we're four years in the future, my student loans remain. Debt really is life-long....

That's new. Even if the student debt isn't. Sorry, Christine. I can't fix that.

I know a few money making spells, but they say that meddling with those forces often comes with a backlash.

It's kinda nice. I like it. Thanks weird multiverse for doing something I would never have done in the first place.

I don't want a get rich quick scheme. I'm okay with retiring at 80. It is what it is.

[private]

Are you okay though?

Not all change is a bad thing. And even if you're eighty, you'll still be one of the best surgeons I know of, Christine.

[private]

I will be. Don't worry.

I'd like to wave the flag of doctor/patient confidentiality. Someone who has been tainted by an dark entity needs to have a checkup. Can you do this carefully without being overly invasive or threatening?

I'll be waiting outside if you need help, along with her partner.

Yeah, absolutely. A dark entity sounds way scarier than cancer, and I handled that pretty well.

I'm assuming I'm doing this because it's a female kind of check you need?

It's Wanda. She's only been treated by HYDRA doctors so you'll need to be gentle with the exam. Don't mention the entity, and check for any physical signs of an ailment, if there are any.

Okay, thanks for the head's up. I don't want to re-traumatize anyone at all.

So just run basic physical checks? Warn her she'll have to pee in a cup beforehand. It's always so awkward watching patients drink water and then the small talk before the pee...

I'm still trying to puzzle this through my head.... will demonic entities show up on tests?

No, they would not. I'm expecting, and hoping, that it will all be physically normal.

Okay, got it.

And hey, Stephen -- is there anything I need to know about screwy future time? I mean, I'm handling it now pretty good but I'm sure when I finally realize I'm living in the future present, I might have a small breakdown.

Any words of comfort would be nice now. This is your cue to say them.

Time is nothing more than perception of its passing, Christine. You're still the same person and everything will be ok. If you need me, I'll be here for you. Same as you're there for me, if I need you. Same as always.

That motivational speech is free of charge. Next one might cost you a pizza and a new hoodie.

I didn't forget.

Oh come on, Stephen -- it's been four years. Can't you just let it die already?

...pizza sounds good though. And another hoodie....

...would it be super weird if I asked you to come over so I'm not alone tonight for some platonic lifemate cuddles? Yup. Panic starting to set in a bit. Holy shit what is my life...

You owe me, Christine.

Only platonic lifemate cuddles? I'm wounded.

I'll be right over.

And here I was going to tell you if you wanted to cop a feel, I wouldn't be opposed.

That's fine with me :) You can read me a bedtime story. I hope it has a happy ending.

You're still telling me since you typed it and hit send.

We'll might regret this innuendo at some point but Everyone likes a happy ending. You'll have to wait and see what happens.

Funny that.

But the journey is even better when you know it all works out.

It's hilarious.

I suppose that the end of the journey is the happy ending, in your book.

I'm hilarious.

I have no idea why, but all this talk about happy endings is making me want an egg roll.

You think you're hilarious. Everyone knows I'm the comedian out of the two of us.

That's because we watched the same episode of Robot Chicken.

I think if I polled everyone right now, they'd all go 'wait, he can laugh?' whereas I have a naturally dimpled smile which I show off often. So. I win.

oh yeah! Okay bring your books, you and egg rolls. I think I might actually still have those DVDs...
