Rules subject to change when new issues occur or if clarification is needed. Check back often.
Notice: No copyright infringement intended. All characters owned by Disney and Marvel. We are non-profit and non-commercial, writing interactive fanfiction as a transformative parody of the original work for personal entertainment only.
⮚ NO DRAMA. No one has time or energy for additional stress. Do not attempt to circumvent the rules or application process. You are expected to interact with all writers. No one can be avoided. Anyone starting IC or OOC drama either on this comm - or that is griefing players outside of this comm - will be removed immediately. If you got beef, this isn't the place for your BBQ.
⮚ WE'RE CASUAL GAMERS. We don't play daily or post day-to-day character activity, so we do not require a major time investment to play. We have family and friends, health issues, jobs, or classes. We peck away at plots or logs at our own place, and it can take a full month to finish game-wide plot scenes. Read "Game-Wide Plots" & "Time" entries, below.
⮚ JOINING. New players get 1 character for the first 2 months and must interact for a full 2 months with others. Hiatus does not erase the 2 month timer. Players need oks from all on-screen castmates before holding, via OOC post or email. Those outside of the game must use contact posts. Current players in good standing for 6+ months can pick up 1 character a month without auditioning, as long as they keep up each month with all requests for activity. There are 3 ways to join:
⭆ FAST TRACK for sponsored players. Any established player of 6 months+ can vouch for someone to skip the audition process. Sponsored Players need to contact all current on-screen/in-print castmates before holding. Their sponsor can help with that. You'll need 2 public writing samples for the character you're applying for, on the journal you use. If samples are from an alternate journal, you will be given a phrase to post so we can see that the journal belongs to you. Fast Track characters can begin playing ASAP. For the first 3 months, their sponsor can answer questions and help them settle in.
⭆ BLIND TRYOUTS are for unsponsored players to enter by audition if open on the Holds page. This is randomly available after major TV or movie releases. Check back often! We're looking for: 1.) canon history and characterization (MCU, Fox, or Comic attributes) are intact. 2.) a good grasp of the character's voice and demeanor. 3.) if you will mesh well in this game. Blind Tryouts write a log starter, which will be completed on Google Docs. Auditions can take 7 days to finish. We will not rush this process.
⭆ RETURNING PLAYERS that left on good terms do not have to audition again. They can pick up dropped characters (if not adopted already) and instantly arrive in the game. New characters they have not played as before can be Fast Tracked after 1 month.
⮚ PICKING UP CHARACTERS. Try not to pick up closely linked characters, i.e. original/founding members of the same team. But if it's a needed part that has been missing for over 6+ months, an established player (6 months +) can volunteer to pick up that character. All mutants start with powers being unlocked in Genosha via Mr. Sinister, and must be intro'd into the MCU for the first time. Absolute villains are NPC only. Anti-heroes who show possibility of redemption are ok if they work closely with everyone. All on-screen or in-print castmates must be asked for an ok via contact posts before holding. These can be contacted by clicking icons on the Taken or Contact pages. It is advised to discuss line ideas, ship preferences, or headcanon. Headcanon is like flavor text. It can not overwrite or change past/currently known MCU canon. Use the Dropbox if you don't hear back after 3 days.
⮚ CONTACT INFO. You need a public contact post (comments screened), so others can ask for an ok before holding. You need an RP email on the Contact page and to have access to Google Drive for logs. Discord is optional, not mandatory, and we don't (and won't) have a chatroom for this game. We plot via email because not everyone uses the same chat programs or can be on at the same time, and emails are easier to reference. Do not share f-locked info. Do not email any 📎 file attachments. Always use unmasked links to places like IJ, DW, Imgur, or Google Drive.
⮚ MONTHLY CHECK IN starts the 1st of each month and ends the 3rd at midnight (Pacific). Due to ongoing pandemic fatigue, we may return to activity check in the future, to ensure all characters are being used. For now it's on the trust system, and mods will discuss with you if we see characters not being used.
⮚ NO MAX CHARACTER LIMIT. You must use your character(s) once per month and keep up with all player requests to play off that character and complete each request for that month. Popular characters will be more highly sought after.
⮚ CANON. MCU characters must be up-to-date and adhere with all last-known canon on their wiki page. Characters like Peggy, Howard, or Steve retain all canon memories, but a quirk in the universe brought them back in a younger form. New MCU characters coming into the group must adhere to the most recently known canon history. Only Mutants, or known incoming MCU characters (i.e., Kate Bishop et al.), are allowed a more comic-based AU history to fit into this parallel universe. All MCU memories will be revealed in dreams after a series or film. You can not ignore what happened in the canon universe, but being in an AU setting means you don't have to use any changes.
⮚ GAME-WIDE PLOTS have no opt-out. Plots roll for 3 to 4 weeks but only cover 1 actual day of on-screen time. You can still do logs or threads around the event. In rare cases, narratives with light dialogue (either single or group written) of what your character(s) did are accepted.
⮚ HIATUS. Hiatus is 2 weeks, 4 times a year, for family or medical emergencies only. Use the hiatus sparingly. You can not use the 8 weeks consecutively. Post on OOC and on the Schedule page. The post will be frozen to keep track of absences. A writing partner can post a hiatus notice for you in an emergency.
⮚ OTHER FRANCHISES (FOX or SONY): Only Disney owned (or co-owned) characters are allowed. Characters must already have screen time, although we can make concessions where some characters/actors are known (see Holds page). AU versions of the X-men/Deadpool can be introduced starting in Genosha, where their full powers will be awakened. No Sony-only owned characters, they are not part of the MCU: i.e. Venom (source) or Into the Spider-Verse (source).
⮚ NO MULTIPLES. No duplicates or additional alternate universe versions of a character or their children are allowed.
⮚ TIME moves month-by-month, to give people time to respond. Game-wide Plots are only one glimpse of a specific moment in time. Logs can be done before and after them, and you can mention things that happened in the Plot toward the end of the month. Don't expect any day-to-day style RP to happen here. While the year will be 2025, the calendar days will remain the same as ours (i.e., Christmas will fall on our Christmas). There's no need to worry about every tiny detail here. Like all fiction, we use suspension of disbelief.
⮚ LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: While you are free to roam, all characters will live in centralized locations:
⭆ All MCU characters and Mutants live in the New Avengers Tower in Tribeca, offering the most potential setup for interaction. No exceptions, unless the character is Asgardian. School-age teenagers live with their parents until they are old enough to move into the Tower. Orphaned characters move in immediately. Characters trying to live elsewhere will be transported back to their centralized location immediately.
⭆ Asgardians live in Asgard (now reconstructed in space). Asgardians have access to the network, internet, and phone calls courtesy of a series of Stark satellites. They also keep rooms in the Tower. They can retain vacation homes on Earth, but cannot live in them for longer than 1 cumulative month per year to keep characters active with others. Outside visitors to Asgard are welcomed for feasts or weekend stays with permission. Asgard is protected by magic & shielding technology. It can only be reached via Bifrost or if a ship has pre-approved clearance from Asgard's ruler(s).
⭆ Masters of the Mystic Arts protect their assigned Sanctum Sanctorum. Dr. Strange watches over the New York Sanctum in Greenwich Village. Wong is in charge of the Hong Kong Sanctum. Doorways connect the three Sanctums in Kamar-Taj. Because they can portal, these characters can be anywhere instantly to meet with others. Visiting is by request.
⮚ DROPPED CHARACTER HISTORY. The media or press trail is erased by the universe when a player drops a character. Existing players won't forget, but new connections need to be forged if a different player picks them up. Past game history remains in the past.
⮚ ROMANCE. Fade To Black (FTB) is preferred for all sexual content. You're free to write whatever you want 'off-screen' with a partner, but it doesn't need to be posted since reading that isn't everyone's cup of tea. We also don't enforce canon relationships. It's 100% each player's personal choice to stick with a canon ship or not. Respect their choice and don't pressure them.
⮚ KIDS age month to month. So we aren't overrun by babies, pregnancy takes 9 full months of game time. No exceptions. Children are NPCs and can not be adopted or played by another player. Only the parent writer(s) can NPC their child. Anything involving kid(s) in logs must be approved by the parent(s). Characters can not bring kids into warzones or conflict. No adult versions of yet-to-be-born children. If we start to get overrun with babies, we will implement a freeze.
⮚ RATING SYSTEM. -rating:red covers NSFW content: Drug Use, Alcoholism, any Medical Issues or surgical procedures, any descriptive Nudity or Sexual Content, Graphic Violence (gore/bloodshed), descriptive Violent Crime (assault, murder) or Abuse (verbal/physical/emotional), Death and/or Dying. It's your responsibility to watch for red tags.
⮚ NOT EVERYTHING GOES. We are Ages 18+ & Rated M for Mature. No incest. No IC/OOC attacks on sexual orientations of a character (or their writer). If you've read this far, the current word you're looking to include on your app is waytiontript. To comply with Federal obscenity laws in the U.S. or issues regarding age of consent, no sexual relations are allowed for characters under the age of 18.
⮚ TRIGGERS. Anything potentially triggering should be under lj-cut and have a warning about what's within. This game involves scientific experimentation, combat (including combat-related ailments: physical, emotional, mental), characters with known mental disorders, and dealing with canon character or NPC death. If you have triggers, this game isn't the best place for you. We recommend a lowkey panfandom instead. Having triggers does not mean the rest of the group will stop writing triggering material or that you can opt-out of game-wide plots. If you join, you are here to participate. It's each individual's responsibility to watch out for triggering material. You can ask a fellow player for a summary if you suspect something might trigger you.
⮚ NO REAL WORLD POLITICS OR EVENTS, such as political figures, groups/organizations, or current news events (pandemics, elections, etc.). We do use real-life locations for plot settings. Some of the same military or government organizations that exist in our world also exist in the MCU. While the MCU was meant to be strongly similar to Earth as we know it, the same geopolitical issues don't exist in an alternate universe the same way they do in our reality. Details or history are left vague to not ruin immersion.
