Who: Thor and Steve
What: The Bromance deepens
When: Shortly after Steve's return
Rating: Green

Thor was thrilled to see his friend was back. He'd been concerned when he'd disappeared, but with this realm, one thing you could count on was ...well, nothing. Everything changed at the drop of a hat. The Strange Doctor had just announced more comings and goings, and Thor was starting to hate getting messages from him. He never had anything nice to say. At the moment, the Asgardian warehouse had been converted into refugee housing, and was playing host to 1500 displaced Asgardians. Even so, Thor happily invited Steve to the home, if only because it was hard for Thor to disappear anymore. Having a title meant responsibilities, and he was happy to pick them up again (even if slightly reluctant.) So he waited outside for Steve, hoping that they could take the fire escape to the roof without having to speak to anyone else.

Steve was at the mercy of his lack of comprehension. Dr. Strange had done his best to explain but Steve didn't understand quantum realms and limbo pockets. He just took the doc's word for it that it happened, he'd missed a hell of a lot and he was just glad to be back. His reunion with Peg had been...well, he wasn't going to talk about that with anyone, thank you. Ahem. Thor was someone he wanted to see. Not only was the Asgardian a teammate, but he was a friend. After he let Peggy make sure he didn't have any holes in him that weren't supposed to be there, Steve made for the Asgardian compound. When he spotted Thor, he smiled as he lifted a hand in a wave then jogged across the street. "Hey. You look like the crown is sitting heavy."

With a huge smile, Thor enveloped his friend in a hug, not holding back at all. If there was one person in this world who could handle a full blown Thor hug, it was Captain America.

"I am pleased to see your beard remains, for we have something in common." There was no way the joy could be wiped off his face. "Welcome back, my friend. You've been sorely missed."

Steve was a little surprised by the sudden hug, but you really can't help but smile when you get Thor hugs, and Steve hugged back. "It's good to see you, too." Steve could hear voices moving toward a nearby door, and he had picked up on Thor's preference to meet outside. He didn't particularly feel like answering a billion questions himself so he jerked his head toward the fire escape. "Unless you want your courtly audience I suggest we move this upstairs." That cute, lopsided smirk of his made an appearance.

Thor nodded in agreement. Again, not that he had any problem being with his people but he knew that steve was notoriously private. Introductions could come later.

The roof was easily his favourite place in the house. His mother's garden was still in immaculate conditon there, and he liked to be close to her. "I will not ask where you have been, as I am sure you do not have an answer. These are strange times, and even stranger methods at work. All that I can ask is are you hungry?"

Steve didn't like being the spotlight. That might go counter to being a superhero. It was the adoration, applause and attention that made him want to crawl into a hole and never come out. He appreciated Thor accommodating him and followed the other Avenger to the roof. The garden got an appreciative look. Steve knew it had been Frigga's. Obviously her sons had been keeping it up. He smiled at that thought. "You're right," he said in slight amusement to Thor. "I don't. Strange does. Not that it made any sense to me." The hospitality offer made him smile. Some things never changed. "Do you think a pizza place delivers to the roof?"

Thor had to laugh. "Well, my friend, if you truly wish for pizza, I'm sure it can be arranged. Whether delivery or we pick it up, either is acceptable to me." He thought for a moment. "I do not know if my people have had the opportunity to eat pizza as of yet. Perhaps I will ask my brother to assist with this endeavour. I am not sure how many pizzas 1500 people would need."

Steve chuckled along with Thor. Steve could place a call to a place he knew...and he'd get Tony to pay for it. Meanwhile, he reached out to clap Thor on the shoulder. "I'm glad your people made it. You must be relieved." It wasn't all of Asgard. Not by half. At least Steve didn't think so, but it was better than genocide. And as for Loki, Steve remembered from when he was here last that Thor's brother wasn't the megalomaniac they all thought he was. "How is Loki, anyway?"

Loki. What was there to say? Thor never felt comfortable sharing information that wasn't his, so he simply shrugged. "Darcy has disappeared." Steve did not need to know that they'd split a long time before that, that Loki didn't even seem to notice that Darcy was gone (or so Thor thought). "My brother has been a great asset to our relocation efforts. He has been able to make many negotiations that while I am capable of doing, would prefer not to. I am very pleased with his progress and his ability to look at each situation with many different eyes and perspectives."

Motioning to a few lounge chairs overlooking the tranquil waters, he sat down and smiled. "Things are coming together, my friend. It is a great relief for me to know that Asgard will not perish, but will continue." "Yeah, I'd heard about Darcy." Jane had told Steve. Not that he'd known Darcy very well, but she and Loki had seemed happy. Thor's unpredictable brother seemed to thrive out from under the influence of the Tesseract.

"It's good that he's taking an interest in the relocation, Thor." There was a But in his tone of voice. "But don't let him dwell in it. That's Stark's thing."

Thor shook his head. "No, Loki is a changed person. He does not expect lavish praise anymore. Some, yes, but he has humbled somewhat. I am very proud of the man my brother is becoming." It really made Thor wonder if Thanos had had more of an influence on Loki than expected, but he'd let that percolate a bit. "And I would say, Stark has also muted his behaviour. You will see, our team is not quite the same as it was before. Perhaps now that you have returned, we should come together again."

Steve wasn't sure if he was relieved of concerned. It wasn't like either of them to be subdued. Tony, he could understand since Pepper had disappeared too. No doubt he'd be back to his wild, rapid ways. Loki...he just didn't know that well. But it sounded as if Thor was convinced, and when it came to Loki the god of thunder wasn't easily beguiled.

"Probably a good idea," Steve agreed. "If for nothing else to see who is left."

Thor grinned widely. "And you know that you have a deep desire to say 'Avengers Assemble!'" And as if to prove the point, Thor stood up very suddenly, arm up to the sky, while a single lightning bolt crashed into the water behind them. Looking at Steve with a very proud look, he continued to grin. "It is very good to have you back."

Steve wasn't so sure about that. The Avengers had had their problems. He wasn't sure if everyone would want to be part of the team again. He wouldn't force anyone, not that he could. Still, he didn't want to share his doubts with Thor....krakaBAM Now didn't seem to be a good time.

"It's good to be back," he said as he clapped Thor on the back of his shoulder. "I'm glad to see you happy." Thor looked at Steve quizzically. "Are you happy?"

The question might have come out of nowhere, but Thor had noticed his friend wasn't supremely jovial. Of course, that probably had to do with learning you were stuck in some sort of soul world for several months, and then have to return to normal again without any chance to breathe.

"Huh?" Steve's brows lifted in wonder of where that question came from. He gave Thor his usual smile. "Yeah. I am. Sorry. My mind is chasing after a dozen shadows that might not even be there." He shrugged. "I want to make sure everyone's ok before I can relax." Steve chuckled. "Peggy might thump me soon if I don't give her an entire twenty four hours."

Thor laughed. "Peggy Carter is a formidable woman indeed.". Although Thor did not know much about her, he had a sense of quiet strength that emanated from her. "Come," he said with a grin. "I believe I promised you pizza, although this time, it need not end with a nap." Even if it was a great nap.

Steve chuckled. "Sometimes we won't get the chance to have a nap. We should take them while we can."

He waited until they had the pizza, filling the time with idle chat. Even after they got their dinner Steve waited until he was certain they'd both had enough before breaching the next topic. "Tony's still getting married and is going to be a dad." Thor handed Steve a Vanaheim ale,‎ grabbed one for himself and mulled over Steve's question. They were still on the rooftop, only now night had firmly fell over the city. It was never dark enough to see the stars, but he still liked looking up.

"Yes. He is." it was an interesting thought. "I am surprised, which I take you are as well. Pleasantly surprised, I should add. Tony needs more structure and routine in his life, a certain stability that Pepper provides. I can only assume their child will further stabilize him." Tony danced on a knife's edge between stable and rage. Steve had tried subtly to help give Tony a safe, calm place with his friendship, but the more solid Tony's life became, the more the engineer went into manic mode.

Pepper did seem to give Tony some kind of even keel, something no one else had managed to accomplish, for which Steve was grateful. Having known Howard Stark for as long as he did, Steve felt he owed it to his friend to be there for Tony. "I don't know," he muttered as he looked into his drink. "He didn't have a great relationship with his dad. He might get wound up over what kind of dad he'll be. We'll have to keep an eye on that." Steve took a long drink then glanced at Thor.

"So when are you and Jane going to follow their lead?"

Thor had been mid-drink when Steve asked 'that question' and he couldn't help but sputter. Sharing his concerns and fears (and excitement) about anything possibly happening was one thing with Loki and Val...after all, he had to tell Loki due to the whole complexities of royalty. But Steve was his friend... instead of answering, Thor decided to continue drinking. And have another one. He was not a very good liar, and he didn't want to get into it too much, all the thoughts and wondering and everything. Plus Jane would kill him if she knew he was talking about anything. The Norns only knew what she would do when she found out how much Loki knew.

And then mid way through his third drink, he found his answer.

"When you and Peggy do."

Thor wasn't deflecting the question. He wasn't getting angry. There were no winds. No thunder snow. He just fell silent. Steve matched him drink for drink as he waited for either the subject to be changed or Thor actually gave him an answer. When it did come Steve was caught off guard. He choked on the ale before he started into a cough/laugh with a merry smile on his face.

"Fair enough, my friend."

The ale was getting to his head. He'd need to really put a stop to these drinking excursions, but Gods, it felt good to let loose and relax. "There's ample time for all, so let us allow the future to unroll in its own curious way, shall we?" "Hey, take it from me, pal." Steve pointed at Thor with his ale, his brows lifted in that way that meant he was being dead serious. "Y'never know how much time you have. Make the most of the time you got or the next thing you know you're putting a plane down in the ice before ever having gotten that dance." Everyone knew that story. Somehow. Steve wasn't sure how it got out but that cat was well and truly out of the bag.

Steve made a good point. Thor nodded and lifted his drink. "Well, to the present then. May each day pass the way it should, and all opportunities be fully realized." "Amen," Steve replied as he touched his glass to Thor's. Peggy might make him sleep on the couch for coming home drunk and smelling like the floor of Valhalla, but Steve rarely indulged himself like this and he had felt like celebrating some. Who better to do it with than Thor?
