Who: Everyone
What: Jane's Surprise Birthday
When: (Backdated) 11/3/18
Where: Asgard Home
Status: Green

The party planning was the perfect distraction for Darcy, and it allowed her to focus on Jane and ensuring this birthday would be the best she ever had. After entering the warehouse and seeing the illusion of the Yggdrasil tree, along with the stars and constellations all around, it took her a moment to remember how to breathe. It was perfect. And she hoped Jane and the others would enjoy it. With the hour nearing for the party, Darcy had two long tables set up with snacks and finger foods for everyone to enjoy.

She tried to make it all as science-based as possible for Jane and the others who showed interest in the party, and really in truth, Darcy realized how many of them all had some hand in science, so the illusion Loki provided was perfect. It might make Thor feel a bit more at home, too. With the text sent out to everyone about the location, she hoped Thor was able to keep Jane busy and not let any secrets out about the surprise party.

Darcy herself was inside the kitchen, making the last few touches to the birthday cake before putting away and out of sight, just as she heard the knock on the front door, informing her that people were starting to show up. A deep exhale escaped her lips as she moved towards the door.

“Here we go,” she said, as she opened the door to greet the first guests to arrive.

Peter had absolutely no idea why he was going to this party, other than the fact that he really didn't want to be alone. There'd been too much alone time since Wakanda, and that had to stop.

Besides -- free food? Possibly free booze? Who was he to turn down someone else's hospitality?

Placing a gift at the present table (he literally had no idea what to buy her but he'd seen a pretty damn cool Alien boxset and had to grab it), he looked around, impressed by the illusion. It looked like space. He could actually pick out the constellations, and wondered idly if he could plot his way using just the stars.

Probably. He was a pretty damn good pilot.

Darcy had been running around the warehouse before people started arriving. But even she knew she couldn't avoid people all night long, they would get suspicious of her, and that was the last thing she wanted right now. So after seeing everyone mingle, she noticed Peter was alone. He was fun to talk too, and they both liked music and Slurpee's so, she went over to him.

"It's great, isn't it?" She said about the illusion, Loki had provided. She gave a faint smile as she glanced over at Peter for the moment. "Also, Aliens is an awesome movie." She said giving him a thumbs up on his present for Jane.

Nick knew exactly what he wanted to get Jane. A book that hopefully she hadn't read yet, but something nice for a coffee table read. Nat would probably give him a hard time, just another sign of 'domesticity' but there was nothing wrong with a properly decorated home.

He couldn't help but be impressed with the cake. Darcy had mentioned in passing that she liked to bake, but this -- this was not an amateur effort. Nick had to nod approvingly at the mirror glaze . He really needed to stop underestimating her.

The compass telescope was an antique selected from the specialty shop in the city - it was beautiful brass, nautical, and something that Hope knew Jane would appreciate. Considering it had been selected months ago, during her and Scott's outing to the science equipment shop, it was about damn time this gift finally be presented to the birthday girl.

She bought a new dress specially for the party - kind of a last minute 'treat yo'self' kind of thing - but she felt like she deserved a cute dress. Black, with silver beads and some gold embroidery; it was kind of a 1920s vibe, and of course she paired it with a splash of maraschino lipstick. One of Hope's favorite shades.

The cake definitely looked nice too - maybe she'd see about snagging a piece for her and Scott. "Wow, fancy meeting you here," she spoke up, noticing the hulking presence also lingering by the dessert. Yum. Who could blame him? "I didn't take you for a party kind of guy. Or are you looking to let loose?"

Whatever happened in the Asgard replica stayed in the Asgard replica. Or something.

Nick raised an eyebrow at Hope, his hands clasped behind his back. "If by letting loose, you mean indulging in unknown acts of debauchery? No." This was said in a softer tone than usual in his attempt to let her know he was joking.

He really was trying to be more social. Kind of.

"But if by letting loose, you mean appreciating an exquisite dessert, you'd be right." Looking over her shoulder, he gave her an inquisitive glance. "Where's your shadow? I haven't seen him since I got here."

"Ha, no, I clearly mean indulging in known acts of debauchery," Hope quipped - she was just teasing, because 'debauchery' was not a word she associated with Nick Fury. But maybe he had some secrets - he seemed locked up tighter than Fort Knox.

Light eyes surveyed the spread of finger foods and other snacks - not just the cake, which was gorgeous and it was almost a shame to cut into it - but the more savory options. She'd consider some more, and for now just ladled herself a glass of punch. "Scott? Oh, he's around," she said - and was pretty sure of that, anyway. "He's always been more of a social butterfly than me. All friendly and whatnot. I'm used to work parties, and schmoozing with people I can't stand. This is a lot different."

It was like, actual friendship. Crazy stuff.

"Yes. We all know each other, and there doesn't seem to be the added torture of having to play nice. Schmoozing," he echoed, with a gleam in his eye, "has never been one of my priorities." Reaching down, he took a celery stick in hand but didn't crunch into it. Yet.

"You did good out there," Nick said after a moment. Praise was not something he was used to doling out, but Hope and Scott weren't part of his Avenger initiative, so long ago. They weren't his agents, so he could afford to be a bit kinder to them. "If you ever want a training space, I have one set up. The Guardians use it too, on occasion." If they could even call that fighting . It looked more like Drax tackled Peter while Peter used every swear word in the galaxy. "It's good to have more people to rely on."

Training space? Sounded fun. Hope was going to guess it wasn't some official SHIELD thing, or even if it was, she could only imagine what her father might say. Not like it mattered. She'd already accepted that Hank had a falling out with pretty much the whole world at some point in time, during his career. It didn't affect what she did, as his daughter.

"Thanks," she grinned, not expecting the compliment - but it was nice hear, nevertheless. "Scott went without me last time and...well, he needs me with him to make sure his ass stays out of trouble. We're a package deal now. Training space...yeah, we could work with that." Mostly they just used the local gym, especially for the martial arts training that they were continually working on - it was important not to slack.

Hope was a firm believer that the thigh choke could get one out of many sticky situations.

"You can definitely rely on us though. It's good to get a chance to help out too."

Nick wisely didn't say anything about Scott needing Hope to help him out. That was probably the truth, but seeing as Nick barely knew the other man, he felt it better not to comment. Instead, he gave her an actual smile, albeit a small, tightly controlled one.

"I think I have your number. I'll send you the address and ensure you have the credentials you need. It's not an official thing," he said, answering her unspoken question, "at least not in a way that I can advertise, but well, when you're funded by Stark..." He let that also unsaid. There's no way Tony would allow any of his projects to be underfunded, and under-resourced. Nick was actually really proud of the person Tony was becoming, and how he was able to put his ego aside to work with others.

He tipped his head to her and lifted the celery stick. "Until the next time we meet, Ms. Van Dyne."

Wow, a smile? Hope was pretty damn pleased with herself. "Oh, yeah, funded by Stark - I completely get it," she assured. Say no mas, Mr. Fury. There was no need - they all knew that Tony Stark had more money than God. But as the offspring of a wealthy business owner herself, and the one likely to inherit all that wealth eventually, she knew firsthand that a crap ton of dough didn't always make up for a lot of things. It helped, but it wasn't the end all.

Still, she knew that whatever training space this was, it had been financed with the best intentions. "I'll keep an eye out for your message, then - feel free to text anytime." Even if he wanted to have a drink someplace, like one of the crappy dive bars around Stark Industries - she'd be up for it.

"See you later," she toasted him with her cup of punch. "And stay out of trouble." Ha. And speaking of trouble, she ought to find Scott now - hopefully he hadn't found any in her absence.

It wasn't that Wakanda didn't celebrate birthdays. It was that those birthdays that Okoye attended were royal members if either the family or other tribes. Meaning she didn't have casual clothes to wear. So, when she was given an open invite to Dr. Fosters birthday, Okoye wore her traditional Dora uniform. Gold bangles on her wrist as she came to step inside the warehouse. Looking up to the illusion above head, she smirked. Impressed for the moment.

A small box within her hold as she placed it on the gift table, inside would be a single Kimoyo bead for Ms. Foster to tinker with to her hearts desire.

Aside from the gift, Okoye examined what she could see about the inside if the warehouse. It was massive, and reminded her of Wakanda with the entire what looks like on the outside does not mean the inside is the same. Secrets, were everywhere. But, still Okoye could appreciate the surrounding of the Asgardian home.

Continuing in the theme of complete ignorance, Peter first walked past the bald scary looking lady before stopping and squinting in front of her. "Hey! I remember you," he said loudly, pointing a finger at her. "You're that badass general from Wakanda. I didn't get a chance to talk to you but you had some pretty sweet ass moves out there." He stuck his right hand out, the other holding a beer, and smiled. "Starlord. But people here call me Peter."

In all honesty, it took all of Okoye's might to not punch Peter in the face at that moment. Mainly because he was so upfront and had caught her slightly off guard with his hand point. "Pointing is rude, has anyone ever told you that." She said glaring for the moment. But as he kept talking she exhaled and took his hand.

"Okoye." She replied as she listened to his name and... his other name? Americans were so strange, is all she thought. But this was her new home and these people, aliens were the ones she now vowed to fight alongside to defend Earth.

Peter ignored Okoye's comment about pointing. Many of his behaviours were rude -- it was a byproduct of having been raised by immoral pirates. "Cool, Okoye." He tried the name out a few times, rolling it off his tongue before nodding. "That's a different kind of name. All you guys over in Wakanda have some pretty neat names. It was definitely cool to get to be on your land and all. I didn't realize it wasn't open to anywhere else, so I guess...thanks for the honour? and shit?"

"Our doors were just recently opened to the public." She informed him as she arched a brow in his direction. He was different from the others. That much was certain. But Okoye had to remind herself that not all these people were from this planet and perhaps this one, was one of those from space.

"You are welcome. I suppose even someone such as yourself is welcomed to Wakanda whenever you please. Our doors are forever opened to those who helped in the battle."

"Yeah?" Peter liked the sound of that. He'd never appreciated political things like 'borders' and 'rules' and 'no sir, you cannot come here, you're not the right species'. Fuck that. The galaxy (and ultimately universe) were a big damn place, alright? Enough room for everyone.

"I'd actually really like that. It'd be hella cool to check it out, without y' know, that whole impending potential death thing hanging over me, right?"

Okoye nodded her head at Peter for the moment. "All you need is ask and I shall inform the King of your plans to visit so accommodations could be made in advance." She informed him as she came to take up a piece of carrot and take a bit.

"I'm certain that impending death was hanging over all of us, but you are welcomed as are your friends." She informed him once more.

Natasha was always good and making her way inside without being noticed, this was no different. The threat was gone, and everyone was able to enjoy the simpler things in life. Like a birthday party. Already her gift was placed off on the table with the others. A small red box with a lovely gold necklace inside. Something she knew Jane would appreciate. Of course, she had taken notice of the illusion and the cake. It seemed, Ms. Lewis was going all out for her friends birthday. It was nice.

Still, for the time being, she had managed to grab herself something to drink and lean against one of the nearby walls, watching as others slowly started entering the warehouse. Her red hair pinned back for the moment as she crossed her arms watching others mingle. She did take note of Fury by the cake and really she couldn't help but snicker to herself. Of if only they knew.

Maybe she'd tell Tony about this little secret, he'd have a good laugh of it probably.

Tony was also one of those people that spent too much time alone after Pepper disappeared. It didn't take much to turn him into an eccentric hermit rattling away in a mansion that Steve once hinted at. Sure, the mansions were in Dubai and other places, but Tony spent most of his days at work in the labs downtown than at home. The penthouse was in the process of being cleaned up and sold, and it was better to roll out of his private office with a luxury bath and stroll into the lab than it was to commute.

Now that everything was said and done, he was already working on a high-security containment unit for the Aether. The least he could do was take a break and wish Jane a happy belated birthday - he didn't want to dwell on the actual birthday party - and to give her the keys to an astronomical observatory in Norway that was going to be named after her, since he made a sizable funding donation. If she never went there, oh well. It's named after her anyway. Because science...and because he has more money than is healthy and he's spent enough on himself. No wife or heirs to leave it to. Might as well splurge on the work buddies.

He sidled up to Nat's side, already sipping a drink.

"Think I can convince Baron von Mischief to illusion me something super calming?" he asked her. "Fluffy kittens barfing rainbows could do me wonders."

Nat was in a slight daydream, thinking about the last party she was at. Tony's place before his and Bruces bot baby went crazy and tried to destroy the world. It made her smirk in a sense because it brought them Wanda, and in truth, it was a very Avengers type of party, with something life-threatening happening. But this party was more intimate, calmer. It was family all around. So, when Tony slides up beside her, all Nat could do was give him a smirk.

"Your luck, he'll illusions the kittens to spit out some fire at you and tell you to kneel every time you walk into the room." She said with a shake if her head as she sipped her own drink." How was Dubai?" She asked as she shifted her eyes to glance over at Tony for the moment. He'd showered, that much was clean. Seems they could clean up nicely, when the occasion called for it.

"How do you feel about British baking shows?" She asked, hiding a smile for the moment. Nick was probably going to kill her for this, but it was also Tony. If anyone would appreciate this bit of information, it would be him.

"Or grab my throat and throw me out a window. But whatever," Tony said with a shrug, looking like he wasn't unnerved by that. He was. On the inside. "I also feel like you know more about something than I do, and I hate that feeling. So of course I wanna know."

His eyes darted around the room, watching everyone as he sipped his drink and waited to hear the latest gossip.

"Of course, I know something." She replied with a smile as she came to lean a bit closer to Tony, turning her head to the side as she whispered in his ear so no one else could hear them "Nick, likes watching Britsh Bake-off" She said with a smirk across her features. That was the extent of her secret she would tell Tony, because if Tony knew Fury could cook?

Well, she might not live long enough to see thirty-five.

There was an audible snerking sound that echoed into the cup.

"Wow," he finally replied, under his breath. "I never took him as a bake-off sorta guy. That show's lacking things that I associate with Fury. Things like...pirates, and the whole leather lifestyle thing. But I'm not one to judge. If that's someone's kink, along with cake baking? More power to 'em."

Tony shrugged but he was pulling a face. A very amused face.

Nat smirked. Nudging her shoulder against Tony's for the moment. "It's good to see you with the living." She replied as she kept a light smile on her features. Her own drink sipped at as she came to stay close to Tony for the moment. It was normal for her to stand close to Tony, something she never noticed and wouldn't notice even if someone was to point it out.

"How've you been, Tony? Honestly?" She asked in a low voice since it was a private conversation between the two of them and she made sure to keep it that way.

He smirked at the nudge but when asked to give an honest answer on how he was doing, he quickly drained the drink in his hand. Thinking about it made him a little bit twitchy and a whole lot evasive.

He managed a tight smile before he walked off for a refill.

She wanted an honest answer?

That was the most honest answer he could give as he beat a retreat.

Nat watched as Tony downed his drink easily. Only to exhale for the moment as she watched him walk off. Tony wasn't going to escape Nat that easily, as she came to follow behind him and soon come to his side. "Yeah, I do know you. So, with that being said Nat finished her drink and started on her own refill.

Tony poured himself another drink, long since feeling twitchy and cornered. Attending the party was a mistake. Jane's last birthday party was the same day that Pepper disappeared in front of him. A thought that he was trying very hard to fend off. He was looking around for Happy, but he was waiting around...somewhere...probably outside being hyper-vigilant about intruders. Not that he needed to, but whatever floated his boat.

"Sure, we'll do that," he said, a little too quickly. He glanced over at her and managed a smile. "Maybe next month or something. Pencil something in." For lack of something to do, he looked down at at his wristwatch. "Look at the time. She's going to be here soon. Get ready to say surprise."

And with that said he quieted, waiting for Jane and Thor's imminent arrival.

Nat watched Tony closely, the past few years with him and the other's she'd been able to get a good read off of each and everyone. So when Tony answered quickly and made the comment about penciling in, all Nat could do was take a sip of her own drink as she came to stand close beside him.

Only to watch him look to his watch and say that it was getting to that time for Jane and Thor to come through that door. A simple nod was given as another sip was taken. "I'll pencil something in." She said as she glanced to the door as it started to open.

It wasn't hard work at all distracting Jane. After all, spending time with her was one of Thor's favourite things to do, and spending all day? Even better. It'd started out with him casually mentioning he'd felt like watching the show regarding space, time and telephone booths (he could not understand why there were so many mystical doctors on Midgard) and that had ended up taking most of their time. When Darcy sent him a text saying everything was ready, he'd mentioned to Jane how he needed to pick up something from the warehouse, and would she like to walk with him? He tried to keep it vague, and had no idea if he was succeeding, but there they were, enjoying the half hour walk.

"I never thought I would enjoy something as simple as a walk through a city," Thor mused, looking around. "It seems very humbling to be allowed this opportunity."

In the crazy life they lived, it was nice to spend a day like this: on the couch with Thor, her legs slung up across his lap and episodes of Doctor Who on the TV. She'd had the take the time to explain that this wasn't many doctors but the same person many times. Probably a misconception caused by his viewing decades of show in bits and pieces whenever he was was with her. Jane was catching up on New Who today, happy to spend the afternoon watching the adventures of the thirteenth doctor and his companions. It was a lazy sort day and his suggestion to walk to the Asgard compound was good reason to stretch her legs.

Jane slipped her hand into Thor's as they walked, trying to match his stops. It must be the lazy day, she was having trouble keeping up. "I like that you think so. I know you've been trying to make things better since you and me..." she searched for a word "...got back into this. I really appreciate that." In light of Darcy and Loki's recent disaster, it seemed only fair to give him a little encouragement.

Darcy and Loki's breakup was also on Thor's mind these days, but more because he felt he was absolutely helpless. Loki didn't listen to him, and Darcy looked sadder (and skinnier) by the day. It also didn't help that fighting Thanos really reminded him how fragile life was. All it took was a snap of the fingers for life to disappear ...

Tightening his grip on her fingers slightly, he gave her a smile. "We are both in this relationship, so it is only fair that I be an equal partner. I want you to know how much I value you, your beliefs and your work. It is not simply my desires that need to be met." Thor was proud of his newer, more progressive views. He'd never quite liked the way his father flitted around, his mother in the background having to accept all of Odin's trysts and dalliances. It was ridiculous. He liked this relationship better -- that they both had input, and supported each other. Not once had Jane demanded Thor quit the Avengers, not like Pepper tended to do of Tony. And even though she'd hated his comings and goings, she'd put up with it for quite a bit longer than he would have anticipated.

No, he liked the idea of equality and equity. It was nice. Made things easier.

Jane flushed, pleased. "Okay. Okay good. I just wanted you to know I noticed and I appreciated it." Things had been a lot different this time around. Solid. Working. She caught her breath and then smiled up at him. The weather seemed to echo their mood, pleasant and mild. Jane secretly suspected Thor might have a little something to do with that.

"Wonderful." And he meant it. "Part of me cannot understand why my brother is so resistant to opening up. He does enjoy being fawned over. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he finds himself with an enclave of concubines, happy to be physically appreciated while continuing to keep everyone from arm's length." Thor sighed. and shook his head. "In other, more pleasant news, we are currently working on obtaining that island in Norway I spoke to you about. I'm not entirely sure when this will take place, but I'm hoping in the near future. Until things are settled, I will have to be back and forth, but with Stormbreaker..." He glanced at the 'umbrella' in his hand. "I won't be gone long. And you are more than welcome to come with, but until we have actual facilities constructed... well, it will be a lot of camping on hard rocks." Nothing unusual for him, but he could imagine she'd want some more comfort.

"Oh, ew," Jane said reflexively. Loki and concubines was not an image she wanted. She shook her head a little to clear it. "Hard rocks are tempting. No thanks, I'm good. I have my own work to focus on while you're away."

"Time away isn't nearly as bad when you know it won't be long," he mused. His phone chirped and he patted his jacket pocket, ignoring it. That would be Darcy letting him know they were welcome to show up at any time. Perfect. He could almost see the warehouse from where they were. "Besides, isn't there an expression about how distances makes one feel greater emotions?"

"Fonder," Jane corrected with a laugh. "Distance makes the heart grow fonder. Though let's not test it with too much distance."

"No, of course not. And Loki will be with me. Val as well most likely. I suppose they'd want to be there to help with it all.....and if we do bring back the Asgardians, I feel like I will be spending more time with you, simply to have some solitude." As much as he looked forward to finally ensuring his people had a home again, he didn't know if he was thrilled about giving up all his space either. Some days he felt so, and some days he didn't. Either way, no matter. His home was quickly coming into view. "I promise, this will only take a moment. Do you want to go upstairs and wait for me? I need to get something out of one of the storage rooms."

Jane didn't see how he'd be busier with more responsibilities but have more time with her but she wasn't going to ask. Jane had never needed all of Thor's time. Only enough to know he cared.

"No problem," she said. "I can hang out for a minute."

Thor beamed again, and led her into the house. It was amazingly quiet, for a party, and he remembered that part of Loki's illusion had included some sound-proofing. Chattering to Jane about nothing, he brought her to the room and smiled. "I just remembered -- I don't know if you've ever seen this room before. Opening the door, he swung it inwards and smiled down at Jane. The Yggdrasil tree illusion was perfect, with the stars twinkling in the background. Loki had outdone himself, as well as Darcy as there were balloons with space designs, an elaborate spread of food, and people everywhere.

"Happy birthday, my love," Thor said, leaning down for a kiss. "Darcy did this for you. We all agreed you were much deserving of a proper festivity since well.." He trailed off. No need to mention the dusting again. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a box. " This is for you."

After talking with Peter for a while, Darcy had wandered off for the moment. She didn't go very far, after doing one more look over she had gone out to the balcony for the moment. She wanted some fresh air, as she looked out over the city that shined in the night. A deep exhale escaped her lips, as she leaned on her elbows and held that red cup in her hand as she took a sip of her drink for the moment. Everything was perfect for Jane. That's what mattered to Darcy right now.

A quick glance back to everyone having fun and talking amongst one another as she came to brush her hair from her face. Darcy had a plan in mind. But that wasn't until later on in the night. Right now, she just wanted some air and to be alone for a bit.
