Tony was also one of those people that spent too much time alone after Pepper disappeared. It didn't take much to turn him into an eccentric hermit rattling away in a mansion that Steve once hinted at. Sure, the mansions were in Dubai and other places, but Tony spent most of his days at work in the labs downtown than at home. The penthouse was in the process of being cleaned up and sold, and it was better to roll out of his private office with a luxury bath and stroll into the lab than it was to commute.
Now that everything was said and done, he was already working on a high-security containment unit for the Aether. The least he could do was take a break and wish Jane a happy belated birthday - he didn't want to dwell on the actual birthday party - and to give her the keys to an astronomical observatory in Norway that was going to be named after her, since he made a sizable funding donation. If she never went there, oh well. It's named after her anyway. Because science...and because he has more money than is healthy and he's spent enough on himself. No wife or heirs to leave it to. Might as well splurge on the work buddies.
