Battle of Wakanda
Who: Everyone
What: luring in Thanos and his army in Wakanda, a battle in three parts.
Rating: Red (due to battle/injuries)
Status: COMPLETE

It was a motley crew. After some contention, all of the tribes of Wakanda arrived, showing a unified front. With the Avengers, Guardians, and a few Masters of the Mystic Arts present, the warriors waited on the plain outside the evacuated Golden City. Having enough time to remove the Infinity Stone from Vision's forehead, Wanda and Strange tapped into the Mind and Time Stones to lure Thanos to the field of battle.

It didn't take long before alerts came in from Tony's nano-satellites in the solar system, followed by Wakanda's scanners picking up on large objects entering the atmosphere. When the towering ships landed outside the dome protecting the city, there was a brief conversation with the Black Order. One that didn't go well, considering the ships opened up and swarms of Outriders began to immolate themselves against the shield like a tidal wave, killing themselves to overwhelm the system and gain entrance. It wasn't the first time that Thanos' forces encountered a shielding system, and the Outriders were single-minded in their purpose: kill and be killed.

As more began to move around the outside of the dome, the creatures started to pose a potential threat to surrounding areas and any straggling evacuees. The King decided to open up a small frontal section of the shield as a diversion. As expected, the Outriders poured through like a toxic wave of dark water onto the lush green plain, their sheer number rendering it impossible to hit all of them at range before more rushed in over the fallen corpses.

This was finally it. The final fight against Thanos and his minions. Once the okay was given and everything was settled for them to enter, it didn't take long for the ships to break through the atmosphere. It didn't take long for them to suit up and met out on the battlefield.

Nat came to stand next to James. She watched as the aliens broke through the barrier, a deep exhale left her lips for the moment. "Looks like we pissed them off..." Is all she said to James, before breaking her spear into two batons.

"On your right" Is all Nat said to James, as she shifted to his right and blocked one of those... whatever the fuck they were from getting any hits to his right side.

"That's usually why they call it war, everyone's pissed." He remarked, his gun trained on those just breaking through and pulling the trigger to take them out at the legs. It created something of a domino effect of them tripping over each other.

But that would only work for so long as there was a smaller hole than there were Outriders.

Bucky ducked and turned to shoot at the thing Natasha had blocked, throwing out his vibranium arm to halt the next in it's place before shooting it in the head.

As Bucky was busying himself with shooting one in the head, Nat had come up along his left side, her batons smacking at one of the aliens coming at him. With her baton knocking the creature down, she used the other to electrocute it.

The thing was though, Nat's weapon was from the other world, meaning it was Proxima's spear she had customized to become her weapon in this fight.

"Someone should really give these guys a snickers bar to calm down." It might have been odd to others, but Nat was known for her banter when in dangerous situations. Much like this.

Bucky was not known for his banter for dangerous situations. At least, unless someone like Steve or Sam had initiated it. He kind of went into a different sort of mode, one that was not the Winter Soldier, but the familiar zone from being a Howling Commando. War never really left you.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Needless to say, he wasn't familiar with Snickers commercials. The time he had spent in this world was a lot of catching up and not a lot of television. He preferred reading. But he did enjoy a lot of the sports channels now.

If only they all could have been on a sports team instead of this. He interchanged between his gun when a new wave would sprout upon them, and then used it as a weapon when they got too close, throwing his weight into his metallic arm and beat them down like ragdolls. Right before they got a shot between the eye. "We should have asked the King for a tank." Not that he'd question the General's plan of attack.

Tony was used to aerial support. While he was no slouch when grounded, his addictions were speed, height, and firepower. Those three things were as destructive as his casual attitude toward drinking once was, only this time, he was able to destroy what might harm others. Not solely himself.

Since Rhodey and Sam weren't there, he was up above, raining down firepower and literal fire down on the monsters as they entered. But they were too fast and too many, and he was only one man in a can. It was a good thing they had canons and the shielding, even if it didn't stifle the overwhelming influx of baddies.

"I suppose this is a bad time to whip out a moldy oldie joke and ask who let the dogs out," Tony said into the comm system that Shuri gave him access to. An act that everyone now probably regrets, even as Tony starts blasting multiple targets at once. "Ok, so you have to be in this weird inbetweenie age range to get it. I mean, this whole situation is way worse than the Baha Men. It's at least as bad as Nickleback. Except nothing's as bad as Nickleback. No one but me knows this. This is why I wish Rhodey and Banner were here. They'd know how bad Nickleback was. Eeesh..."

Of course his mouthing off was due to being on edge. Pep and Steve were gone. There was nothing to keep him reined in. What he was waiting for was the finale, for a certain Titan to make an appearance. There was a plan in place, and now all of them just needed to make it through this. Followed by all expense paid vacations for everyone afterward.

He hoped.

Thor had no idea what a nickle back was, or who the tribe of baha were. Many things Stark said went over his head, and this was one of them. "These do not appear to be dogs," he said helpfully. "In fact, I am fairly certain these alien species are so foreign to this realm, there is no word to properly describe them."

With a run and a cry, he leaped into the air, his axe above his head. Within moments, it was fully charged and he landed with a loud bang , allowing the electric energy to fully discharge around him. A circle of bodies were flattened and he looked around proudly. Yes, he truly was a valiant warrior.

Much like in her dreams, the first wave was massive. With alien dogs breaking through the barrier until finally the section was opened as a means of luring them in. Though, unlike her dreams, they were all ready. Their numbers were even doubled, which meant they had a better chance of winning. But first, she had to deal with the annoyance of not only the aliens rushing towards her, but of Stark bantering on the comms.

"Americans." Is all she muttered under her breath as she spun her spear above her head, before jabbing the metal tip into the chest of one of those alien dogs that rushed at her, pulling it out before jabbing the electrical end into the monster, and spinning the tip around before ramming it within the alien's neck

With the first wave complete, the ground rumbled and swelled until groups of threshers broke through the soil and began to mow down the warriors. As the machines tore through the ground and all who stood upon it, three of Thanos' minions made their way through the opening in the shield. Entering the fray through the single opening in the dome were Proxima Midnight, Ebony Maw, and Cull Obsidian. Of the fourth - Cull Glaive - his whereabouts were yet unknown.

Proxima lived for a fight. Her heart thrilled at bloodshed or the promise thereof, and her home was the battlefield. As a child of Thanos, it was the only home she remembered. It was the only home she ever cared about, where her life was given any meaning. All thanks to Thanos, her father, to whom she would prove herself over and over again.

As the threshers moved around her, mowing down hapless warriors with screams which were like music to her less than subtle sensibilities, Proxima spied three women warriors, much like herself. Women who found their home in battle, just as she did.

A cruel smile was on her face as she moved toward them, set on testing them...and besting them.

Proxima - 1 of 2

The Wakandan plains were vast - you could see blue in every direction to the horizon. The only parts that punctuated the simple color scheme were the odd tree here and there, and long strands of clouds being dragged across that perfect blue sky by the wind. It was beautiful, truly, and Wanda wished that she could actually spend time here. More of a vacation and a respite from things.

But there was no rest for the wicked. The plains were now the site of a bloody battlefield, the Outriders - mindless aliens that easily met their demise - having attacked just a bit before. It was only the first wave of things, and littered amongst the disposable creatures were the more dangerous ones - and also Thanos himself.

Wanda’s goal was to destroy the mind stone - she’d already checked to see if Vision remained safe, and he was. The mind stone had, luckily, been removed from his forehead prior to her arriving in Wakanda and for that she could breathe a sigh of relief. Suited up in her battle gear, the uniform she had not worn in quite some time, her powers gave her a crimson-colored boost as she levitated and surveyed the scene, seeing where others on her side might need assistance.

Wakanda in all it's right was beautiful. Too bad their reason for being here was because of the impending doom that loomed over the fate of the world. But in all honesty, what else was new? Nat was used to this. This fight had been six years in the making and back where she was from, and they'd lost the first time. She was not about to let a second time happen.

After leaving James' side when Proxima came into view, she left him with...was that a talking raccoon? It was, at this point nothing surprised her anymore. So after leaving James with the raccoon, she and Okoye made their way towards Proxima. This time, Nat had a weapon of her own from her world. The same spear Proxima had, just altered to look like her spear/batons.

No amount of training had prepared Okoye for what she was seeing. But like her training taught her, expect the unexpected and defend Wakanda with all her might. Something she was going to do no matter what. T’Challa had only recently returned with the others and losing him before weighed heavy on her heart. But it also fueled her anger.

Blue blood coated her spear from the Outsiders she had killed. Seeing Natasha make a break for Proxima she followed suit, having dreamed something like this week's before the fight was confirmed.

All that was missing was Wanda.

The Scarlet Witch then landed near the two women, boots touching the ground. She was not in a mood to play games or take a gamble when it came to maybe destroying the mind stone - she would do it, no stalling, and she wanted to make sure Thanos knew it was over for him too. That he would never get to lay his giant, ugly hands on such a powerful relic.

Only it appeared as if there was still more garbage to take out before that point.

“I want her,” she spoke, her gaze shifting toward Proxima Midnight. Wanda recalled this person from her dreams - the one who had disrupted life in Scotland when her and Vision were just trying to lay low. Delivering the killing blow would be so satisfying. It had been awhile since she lived with the fire of vengeance as a part of her - but the weight of it now, it gave her strength once more “We take her out next.”

Nat knew how Wanda felt when it came to Proxima. It’s how she felt too. Although she didn’t have any dreams, she had unfortunately lived through it. Still, she understood Wanda’s need to be rid of them, especially if it was one of the children of Thanos. Nat gave a quick glance over at Okoye. It was easy for the three of them to share the same desire.

But Nat knew, the finishing blow belonged to Wanda, this was her battle, and it was a fight they all intended on winning. Still, as she came to stand near her, she held her version of the spear in hand. “Let’s do this.”

Proxima - 2 of 3 (just kidding)
[info]witchiest
2018-10-02 10:41 am UTC (link)
Okoye watched as the Witch came before them, tilting her head.

“Then let us end here, here and now,” is all the General said as she spun her spear and brought it around to her back. A fierce determination could be seen in her eyes as she stood on the other side of Wanda, all three women facing off against Proxima.

It was much like in her dreams and, like her dreams, the three women… no, the three warriors would show these creatures, these aliens why Earth would never surrender to them or their mad Titan father.

Proxima was essentially ambushed, three on one - but she still would put up a good fight, Wanda knew this. She also didn’t want to get inside the head of a child of Thanos - but it would help, just at the most superficial level, to be able to anticipate Proxima’s next moves.

There was so much sludge, so much hate and darkness - Wanda could not let it overcome her. She was able to anticipate when Proxima would detract the blade of her sword, and quickly stopped it with a blast of red crimson before the point of that blade could go into Natasha.

“Give up,” she snarled, her hands glowing red. Her eyes glowing red. “Your ‘father’ already lost the mind stone.”

It was moments like these Nat was glad to have Wanda on their side. With the blade stopped inches from her neck and that red glow around her, Nat smiled as she broke her spear in two, revealing batons that she typically always used during fights. But even with Wanda's warning, Proxima was still determined to fight. Which, in truth, was fine by her.

“I want her spear," is all Nat said with a smirk. It would be a gift for Tony once this was over.

Okoye watched and listened, her anger and hatred visible in her eyes. It was because of them her King and longtime friend turned into dust. Her grip on her spear tightened, so when Proxima went for another attack, Okoye made sure to strike at the alien's spear with her own with a shake of her head.

The distraction from Wanda and Okoye was enough to allow Nat to kick at Proxima chest, causing the alien woman to stumble back, entirely off guard.

“This won't be like the last time,” she warned as green eyes glanced over at Wanda, along with a nod of her head.

Cull Obsidian pounded his way onto the field, sending bodies flying with the swing of his Hulk-sized chain axe. As he moved through he struck down ally and foe alike, bodies flying as the handle axe moved back to his hand with a yank of the chain. Having never faced Wong, as he had in the other universe, he was still in possession of both of his hands. And like his other self, he didn't say much more than the occasional growl or grunt as he ruthlessly cut down Wakanadan fighters, somehow managing to avoid smaller threshers as he made his way like a juggernaut toward Shuri's lab.

There was one obstacle on the path to the lab. Standing in Cull's way was Drax the Destroyer, both blades drawn and coated in the gore of many felled enemies.

"You will go no further, fiend," yelled Drax. He became a bare-chested and unyielding obstacle, intimidating through rage alone even though he lacked the height to match Cull. "You will bring us Thanos, and I will avenge my wife and child!"

Cull answered with an angry grunt and throwing the axe, the blade landing uselessly in the dirt where Drax was once standing. A spot now vacated, for Drax the Destroyer already leaped high up into the air. His knives were angled downward as he lobbed himself at the scaly beast's chest, only to knock him away when Cull yanked the axe free of the soil by the chain, hitting Drax hard enough to propel him forward and sending him flying off to one side with a backhanded swat.

"...hnngh," Cull dismissively snorted, continuing his lumbering stroll through the battlefield to the lab.

Installing speakers into his helmet was one of the best things Peter had invented. It wasn't hard once he had the right parts, and now, he didn't have to listen to anyone else. Nope, nothing but the sweet sounds of Queen blasting in his ears, he was invincible.

Face mask on, rocket boots going, he launched himself into Cull's back, having come out of nowhere. His pistols may has seemed slightly ineffective, but one of Rocket's many tweaks made them that much more potent.

"Get moving, Drax!" Peter dodged a fist and zoomed to Cull's other side, shooting again. "You gotta do this!"

Ebony Maw wasn't fond of walking. He was fond of the macabre, and formed a platform of fallen weapons and Outrider limbs to levitate, as he hovered closer toward where Dr. Strange and the other Mystics were, closer to where he could obtain the Time Stone his master sought.

"Further fighting is fruitless," Ebony Maw announced over the riot of the battle being waged around them. "The great and illustrious Thanos, master of all, shall soon have you kneeling in supplication before him. Your end will be swift. Any pain will be fleeting, your deaths noted for having been a part of Thanos' eternal glory. Hand over the stone, sorcerer, and become one with the final fate we know awaits you and all who oppose your lord and master."

"God it's even more annoying to hear it a second time." Valkyrie didn't know who she was talking to, in all honesty. She couldn't see Loki anymore, but every few minutes she would see (or feel) a large Lightning blast so she knew Thor was still standing at least. Somehow in the slicing and hacking of Alien HellHounds, she had found herself near Strange, and she didn't mind it. There were far less worthy people to die next to if she should perish now.

Her hands itched as she heard that stupid voice getting louder, the opposite of how it had sounded as she fled the ship, carrying a child and shoving crying families onto a rescue vessel after Thor had bid her to save them. She'd had quite about enough of him, as she grabbed one of these monsters by the throat and chucked it at the floating pile of shit he was standing on.

Dr. Strange was with Wong, and while Wong was watching his back to keep any Outriders away, Stephen was keeping a wary eye out as the Ebony Maw approached. He nodded in agreement to the Valkyrie when he heard her assessment, noting in a bitterly dry tone, "At least I'm hearing it minus the space scalpels boring holes in my head."

The irony of that was that he was a neurosurgeon. It was possible based on the angle of entry, to determine the severing of different parts of the brain, and how it might affect specific synapses firing off.

Although he possessed magic and Valkyrie sheer strength, they were still going to need more help to defeat him. Wong's hands were full, portaling Outriders into threshers or oncoming friendly firepower when the threshers weren't taken out. Strange chanced a glance as he threw up Eldritch shields, ready to fend off anything that Ebony Maw threw their way.

It was unimaginable. It was hard to breathe as Peggy watched the battle unfolding in front of her. She stood next to Nick Fury, comm in her ear as she watched her friends and the only people she had left to care about run to fight creatures she could have never imagined even in her wildest nightmares. While she was dressed for battle, and had Steve’s shield near her, she hoped she wouldn’t need to use it. It was like directing traffic but they hadn’t been involved for too long when large blasts seemed to rock the very room they were in. It was like slow motion as she turned, hand going through the shield straps as she walked slowly around Nick, Jane and Darcy. It was like a 6th sense. That blast could have truly been anything hitting the palace or the lab from outside but she could feel something send a chill down her spine even if she couldn't see it. “Something’s here.” She said softly, looking back at all three of them. “Get ready.”

Jane

Jane looked up from where she was sitting in front of one those amazing virtual displays, hands on the holographic controls of one of the city’s cannons. It was hard to pick out their friends among all the alien dog things so she concentrated her fire on the big bunches without the specs of the color of friendly uniforms. Thor at least was easy to find in the crowd. Just follow the lightning.

“Define ready?” asked Jane, cannon going quiet.

Darcy

This wasn’t in the plans Loki and Darcy had. She was supposed to get in, have her council meetings and get her ass back home, but on the final day, that’s when the attacks outside the barriers happened. Darcy and the others were placed in the lab for safety. The safety that was no longer on their side. Jane with a cannon was amazing for Darcy to witness. And after her talk with Okoye, the General and Shuri had the lab make her, her own bow and arrow set with vibranium arrows.

If Loki knew she was here, he’d bitch. He can bitch later. When the foundation shook and Peggy started stalking around behind them slowly, Darcy wasted no time, in gripping that bow and arrow in her hands. She was still wearing the clothes from her meeting when this happened, giving her no time to escape. So here she was, getting ready for a fight.

The arrow pulled back as she stood close to Jane. “That isn’t good…” Is all she said looking towards the small hallway that leads up to the entrance.

Wave Three - Thanos

With his children dispatched and many of the Outriders dead, Thanos finally deigned fit to step onto the field of battle. He seemed at one with war and death. Even if he appeared unconcerned, it also looked as though he was searching for the piece of a puzzle that was missing.

"...I see my favorite daughter is missing. That's problematic."

His voice was unmistakable even amidst the din of combat, infuriatingly calm despite the dead littered around him. Moreover, his statement was one of remorse, apparently aimed at Nebula for being lesser than Gamora and thus the greater disappointment. On his left hand was the golden infinity gauntlet, the power and reality stones were a glimmer of purple and red as the Titan moved further toward the middle of the battlefield.

He stopped a short distance away from those fighting. Many were still in the throws of battle with the stragglers in the aftermath. Thanos took stock of everyone, from those Avengers which were present, to the Wakandan fighters, those scant few Asgardians and Mystic Arts Masters, and the remains of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

"Your efforts to stop me from finishing the gauntlet are commendable," Thanos said. He spared a moment to look at Wanda, up to where Stark was hovering, and then to Thor and Loki. There was a smirk on his lips and a knowing gleam in his eyes. "Even if things are different here, I can still use what's left. I'm taking what's mine."

Thanos raised his arm, the gauntlet shining gold in the sunlight as his fingers clenched, closing into a fist.

The blast of red psionic energy that hit Thanos squarely in the wrinkled, testicular face after that, after his beautiful declaration of villainy, wasn't something that was meant to permanently incapacitate him. But it was meant to shut him up for a minute.

"Except you are missing a few key items. Though your efforts to not let your worry show are commendable."

Wanda, formerly levitating and observing the scene as it calmed and settled, pieces forming around Thanos and beginning to look like the site of the final chess battle, landed on the ground once more. She was still covered with Proxima's blood, because she hadn't bothered to clean herself up - the blue stained her skin, the splatters on her face and in her messy hair making her look wild and mad. And maybe that's how she wanted to look.

This mind stone had to go. She wasn't right on top of Thanos but she knew he could see her. The stone hovered thanks to her telekinesis, a shield forming around her - the ground shook and dirt spluttered up, combined with red tendrils that waved to and fro. And another firework show lit up the sky then too, also that same scarlet shade, a stream of psionic energy unleashed right into the stone, overwhelming and too much.

It would not take long for her to destroy it right in his line of vision.

Thor turned to his brother. This was Loki's cue to disappear into the realms, wherever he was going. In fact, Thor was equal parts annoyed and thrilled that Loki had been around as long as he had. It was nice fighting next to his brother again, felt like old times actually.

The last time he could remember doing that was Jotunheim...

Summoning energy to his axe-hand, he gave a grin. His role was distraction -- he could do that. In a flash, he shot his axe out, directing the electricity right at Thanos' feet. It wouldn't hurt him, but he'd be dancing around for a bit to get feeling back.

It happened quickly, the channeling of red energy from the young witch into the Mind Stone caused every eye, including that of Thanos, to watch as the stone began to crack. As that happened, the sorcerer known as Strange retreated to where his fellow sorcerers were, floating backward to remain on the fringes just out of the range of Thanos' wrath.

One stone was about to go down, one stone was being kept out of reach, and one would soon be removed from the battle entirely...

The plan as outlined was to leave when Thanos was on the field. Loki was not the type to risk his neck unless forced to do so. He was also not the type to desert his brother in a time of need - no matter if they were mutually annoyed or not - much less a friend or his significant other. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

With a nod to his brother - having been given the permission he needed - he drew out the Tesseract. He could all but feel Thanos focusing on him now that the Mind Stone was gone, and Loki did not even take time to smirk as he forced his will into the Space Stone, disappearing by stepping backward into a glowing cloud of phosphorus blue.

Well. This jaunt was going to hurt. Probably a lot more than last time.

Not having a way to be contacted after he began a series of hops through space, meant that he would keep going for as long as he was physically capable of doing so. All he had to do was outrun anyone that Thanos might send after him if his brother and their allies were unable to defeat him.
