Everything was a mess. Somehow the dusting had reached them, which meant Thanos was getting closer to this planet than anyone expected. Half the world was gone, Nat could handle that, what she couldn’t handle was seeing Fury turn to dust before her eyes, Clint having a breakdown and Bobbi, trying to keep it together. After everyone regrouped at Starks, it was plain to see their numbers were low…. Extremely low. Still, after everyone had settled into whatever location they had picked, and given a day or two Nat had finally gone to check on Clint, after making sure Tony and Steve were somewhat present. Mother hen, that’s what James called her, and right now this mother hen needed to make sure her boys were somewhat afloat, even if drowning seemed like a good idea right now. A knock was given to the room she was sharing with Clint. “Clint?” She called out as she slowly stepped inside. He was sitting on the floor beside the door-length window, just staring out at the sky. He didn’t turn his head as she came into the room. Seeing Clint there she came to shut the door and move to sit beside him. She didn’t say anything to him, as she brought her arms around her knees and pulled them up as she looked out to the sky for the moment. He had a breakdown in the car and since arriving at Tony’s he hadn’t said anything. “You need to eat, Clint.” Is all she said as she looked to the sky around them. “Don’t use taking care of me as your way of taking care of yourself, Nat,” said Clint. “I can’t promise it’ll work.” Nat exhaled. “I'm fine Clint.” Nat was used to losing people. That was nothing new. She knew the face to put on and the role to take on as well. “Eat, your no good too if you're weak,” she said eyeing him closely. He raised an eyebrow at her. “Have you eaten?” “Actually yes,” she said crossing her arms for the moment. “You need to eat, or do I have to make you eat?” She loved Clint. Enough to force food down his throat if he didn't believe her threat. “Nat.” He lowered his head and locked his hands behind it in quasi-crash position. “Please.” It was hard enough to keep breathing without forcing more ash down his throat. Nat exhaled when she heard him say please. Her heart broke for him, for Tony and for Steve. Her heart broke for realizing while in Wakanda, Fury had dusted and she never knew. But now wasn’t the time to mourn. They didn’t have time for that right now. Maybe after this is over with yes, but now? No. “I need my partner, Clint.” She told him as she came to brush her red hair from her face for the moment. Emerald eyes watching him closely. Yes, he was now her lover. But Clint was first her partner and right now that’s who she needed front and centered. That gets through to him. He couldn’t get it together for himself. He can get it together for her. Looking up and over at her, he unlocks his fingers and puts an arm around her. Feeling him put an arm around her was all the confirmation Nat needed. A nod of her head given as she came to let her head rest on his shoulder in that private moment they shared. “Come on,” is all she said as she came to her feet and held her hand out to help Clint to his feet as well. They didn't have time to mourn, unfortunately. Not when Cap and Tony were both also broken right now. He clasped her wrist and levered himself to his feet. For a moment they were face to face, very close. He brushed a strand of hair from her cheek, moved in to kiss her forehead, then stepped back and nodded. He would do whatever she needed—as long as what she needed wasn’t just for him to be okay. He didn’t need to be okay to get on with helping the others. A slight exhale at the kiss as she let the moment linger a bit longer. A single nod of her head given as she turned to make her way towards the door to go back out to the others, with Clint following behind. |
