Open! - Soul Dimension
Who: Open to all Soul Dimension dust-ees.
What: a safe harbor for those in the Soul Dimension.
When: sometime after Wanda sending out a mental lure to anyone nearby.
Where: The Soul Sanctum.
Rating: ?

Under a perpetually orange sky, one block of Greenwich Village had been meticulously reconstructed. Roads branched out in New York's familiar grid of streets. They stretched one mile in all four cardinal points - as best as could be determined - floating upon the surface of the water.

These roads all led to the Soul Sanctum, a perfectly rendered recreation, rising up out of the water like a beacon to those who were lost.

Inside, the Sanctum was faithfully copied from Strange's extensive memories. Everything from the demonic fridge (which he had grown profoundly fond of), to the individual pages of the books he memorized. Right down to a voice activated blue tooth speaker, which was currently playing a playlsit that included Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here.'

That is where Stephen Strange was. The doors of the Soul Sanctum wide open, which would have never happened in New York. The sorcerer in his red cloak was meditating in an old wing-backed chair on how to fix the portal problems, and waiting with Wanda for the arrival of those she had reached out to.

Stephen wasn't entirely sure that the people on the other side knew they were even alive. Or if this qualified as being alive or a sort of status capsule. Either way, he had been studying as well. Looking for some aspect he might have missed or overlooked, and venturing out into the astral plane while meditating.

He drew closer to where Wanda was sitting, noting her anxiousness. Everyone was on edge. He wasn't the best at encouragement, but he was able to offer praise where it was well-earned.

"You've done really well helping lead them here. You're showing remarkable progress honing your skills," he told her, once he was close enough that only she could hear him. This was hopeful news, not good news, but hopeful, and he didn't want to get everyone else excited if it ended up being a dead end. "I think I found a weak spot. During my last astral plane excursion. It's dangerous, for both of us. But I have a plan."

Wanda glanced up, a wry smile touching her features. She was flattered by the praise and intrigued by the prospect of danger - such a gamut of emotion going on here. "You forget, doctor, danger is my middle name," she teased. It wasn't actually, but stubborn was likely closer to the actual moniker - and so she wouldn't let a little thing the possible cranium implosion that could potentially occur to be what stopped her from trying to help.

She wanted a way out of here as much as everyone else. And they all deserved better. "Tell me what you have in mind."

Questions also swirled in her brain - she thought of Pietro (for a moment, she had hoped and then didn't hope she'd see him here), and also Vision. Her lower lip trembled. "And are the ones that died because of Thanos, killed by him in our dreams...does this mean they are dead now too?"

Stephen was certain that the possibility he would cause an aneurysm on his part might become a reality, but he too was profoundly stubborn. The need was urgent. It wasn't that he felt this universe was in danger of collapse, but there was no way to monitor the one their friends were in for any further anomalies. They had a different game to play than the 'end game' that he wasn't able to fathom from the other reality. And because Wanda's link with the Mind Stone was strong, she needed to be back there soon.

"You share something in common with Austin Powers," he noted, his tone as dry as ever, but there was a wry smirk on his face. That quickly faded when he moved a chair over so they were side by side, sitting on it and watching to make sure no one else was close enough to hear.

"I'm consulting with Hope van Dyne on further steps," he confided. "First step, the most dangerous step. I propose I pry open that weak spot with a modified portal on the astral plane, and you go through it. I can manipulate it so you are set to enter the quantum realm. Tether you to me and pull you back. See if there is anything out there to send a message to or to somehow pass it on. Anyone, or some way to touch someone's mind in our universe using the time vortexes within. We need you to let others know we are alive. Transferred here, held in stasis."

She lifted an eyebrow. "I do not know who Austin Powers is." What was this, Stephen making a pop culture reference? Shock!

But alright then. She turned to face him in her chair, leaning in and intently listening to what he had to say. It seemed like a solid plan, at least. Better than throwing her out into the ether to scream and scream and see if anyone was listening. Not that he'd ever do that anyway.

"I have never been to the quantum realm before," she said thoughtfully. Of course, Wanda was also a little cautious - but rewards often did not come without some risk. "Are you certain I will not get trapped there? Lost?"

"It's an...old person thing." Insert awkward pause here. Don't get Stephen started on Beyonce. He still called Wong that. Although these days, Wong was likely to hum Single Ladies.

Back on topic.

"I'll open a portal and use an Eldritch rope I can bind around you. I'll be careful. I'll lure you back in." He paused while trying to put it into perspective. "The quantum realm is where you are so small that you can slip between things. It's spooky particles and fuzzy number physics. It's one of the places I've astral projected to, a different dimension. A connecting dimension. A possible way home, or a way to get a message home. We're going to try to build a quantum tunnel. A connecting tunnel to the one Scott and Hope built at Stark Industries. The only one capable of sending that information out in a wide broadcast is you."

He was quiet but determined for a few seconds.

"I won't leave you alone," he promised. "If anything goes wrong, I will go in and get you."

Connecting dimension - that made sense. Wanda was not an expert in quantum physics, or any kind of physics at all, but she wasn't stupid and she got the gist of what Stephen was saying. And despite the fact that her head already throbbed at the idea of using her telepathy to that great of a degree, she was also determined.

"I know you will not," she replied, a bit of a smile crossing her features. At the very least, while most outcomes remained unknown, she held tightly to the notion that Stephen wouldn't leave her to flounder. Or worse, die from the sheer amount of psychic feedback. "You are my friend."

Slender fingers touched his wrist, an affectionate gesture. "And you are also not an old person," she chuckled. "But alright. When are we to do this?"

There was a smirk on his face that she didn't think he was old. He was starting to feel ancient lately. As he placed his other hand over hers to offer her support like she was offering him, Stephen knew she would understand. Wanda was insightful, she caught on quickly and her ability to adapt made her a survivor. She could always rely on him as much as he was relying on her. They were all relying on her.

"I am your friend. I trust you, because I know you can do this," he said, with a smile of his own. He didn't smile often, but he knew they had a shot at beating this, of manipulating things in their favor.

"There's got to be a way to send out a large enough of a psychic wave, a telepathic imprint you can leave on someone out there. Try to get a message to Stark, Dr. Foster, Scott Lang, Captain America even...through anyone with the ability to pick up on it. Tell them Hope is building a quantum tunnel. We're alive. We'll have a connecting link, an escape route.

"That's all they need to know," Stephen said, giving her hand a careful yet reassuring pat. "I'm pretty sure Hope knows the coordinates for Stark Industries. They had to do test runs. She can make it there."

Hearing that he trusted her was a relief too - in a way, Wanda knew. She appreciated that. Because very few people felt that way - Steve, Clint, they did. A couple of the exceptions. Vision had once trusted her too, had actually loved her for who she was; he'd found a way, not afraid of her and not too focused on the crimson wisps of power that gave her her moniker. But he wasn't here and beyond that, she didn't have any idea where he was. If he was alive still, or dead, lifeless, the way he'd looked once upon a dream when she silently cried beside his body.

Wanda was also a tactile person when she was around someone she actually liked - she was physically affectionate, but it took some time for her to get to that place. However, she was there now and besides, she could use the comfort. "One of them has to be using the tunnel, yes?" she inquired, her other hand coming to cover both of theirs - she made a sandwich with Stephen's hand; hers were much smaller. "I should be able to reach someone. And I will give them this message."

Stephen could tell she needed that trust and confidence. Despite being his own island of a person, he wasn't backing away from offering comfort. He had been hugged onto by countless thankful family members or friends, rested a hand on the shoulder of just as many as they were grieving.

It also took him a long while to get past a professional facade to anything truly personal. Right now, he realized it was not the right time to play House M.D. and be a smart ass. People needed to be reassured. The situation needed to be taken control of, to be changed quickly.

"The quantum realm is a place where time and space move differently," he attempted to explain. "I haven't explored it as much as I'd like. I was wary of traveling through on a spiritual level. With your powers, it's highly possible to put out a psychic wave with the message. Like a tsunami. Even if someone's not using the tunnel? You should be able to reach anyone in a connecting dimension who is psychically sensitive. If someone is using the tunnel? Even better. The message will hit them first, and it will hit them before anyone else. That's what we need."

He held her much smaller hand in his own scar covered ones.

"We're a layer that does not belong here," he explained. "What I saw through the window is a reflection of a world absorbed from the primary universe we splintered off from. I don't know what this might mean in the long run, if there would be any lasting effects. But time is moving erratically. That's why we're doing this today."

What time moving erratically meant? He wasn't sure. What he was sure of, was it gave him a bad feeling.

"I see," Wanda nodded. "And no, I agree with you. We do not belong here - this," she looked around, taking in their surroundings. The Sanctum looked familiar, it was exactly how she remembered it in Greenwich Village, but it wasn't real. "This is not our world. It's an illusion. A long-term stay would harm us."

It wasn't like they could kick back and enjoy the vacation, after all. Felt like fitting a square peg into a round hole - their presence was unwelcome and uncomfortable. "I do sense the...other layers, what surrounds us," she said. "The membrane between worlds is very thin here. If I concentrate - I can feel things pressing against us, from the other side. There are so many realities..."

She wouldn't want to be caught in some kind of loop, re-living the worst of it all over and over again, but that was why Stephen would use the rope and tether her to him. It would work out.

"Today, then. I am ready when you are."

As he stood up, Stephen gave Wanda's hand a light but reassuring squeeze before letting go. She sensed it too. That unwelcomeness, the thinning between the layers of the multiverse, and the pressure closing in.

He wouldn't lie to her. There was no use in offering false comfort and she likely already knew the truth. Or felt it, at the very least.

"A longterm stay would end us," he confirmed. "There would be no return. It has to be today. Meditate if you can, focus on gathering your strength. I'll make sure our guests are comfortable. Then I'll come back and we can leave."

He nodded to her before turning away. If anyone could do this, Wanda could. It would work out.
