Who: Jane and Thor
What: Not just friends. Or Thor and Jane get into a fight and feelings come out.
When: Tuesday night
Rating: Yellow

Jane was grateful that after seeing the look on her face, Thor amended his offer from staying the night in the guest room to accompanying her home. Movie night had gone late and while Jane appreciated the offer to stay, she didn't think she could handle another awkward conversation so soon. Jane just wanted to sleep in her own bed. Of course Thor's manner's would be affronted to allow Jane to go home so late on her own.

Jane lived in the housing provided for those the universe spat into New York. The building was sleek and modern and not at all to Jane's tastes but it was too convenient to move out of. She and Thor arrived with little trouble and were soon outside Jane's door.

"Thanks," she said, pulling out her keys and turning to unlock the door.

"You're welcome," Thor replied, giving the building a once over. Seeing as he arrived slightly after Loki, housing had been something he'd never worried about. When Tony talked about the new arrivals place, Thor hadn't really paid it much mind, not even thinking that Jane was living here.

"So this is where Stark puts newcomers." Curiousity wasn't generally a trait of his, but he really was interested in seeing Jane's residence, see if it compared to what they'd lived in before. Maybe it was the good mood of the evening, but Thor found himself doing something he rarely did with Jane. He was altogether too forward. "May I come in and look around?"

"So this is where Stark puts newcomers." Curiosity wasn't generally a trait of his, but he really was interested in seeing Jane's residence, see if it compared to what they'd lived in before. Maybe it was the good mood of the evening, but Thor found himself doing something he rarely did with Jane. He was altogether too forward. "May I come in and look around?"

"Uh, sure," Jane agreed, figuring Thor must be curious about the new arrival space rather than her own personal apartment. She did rush in ahead of him though and quickly shove a few stray pairs of dirty underwear to the bottom of the pile on the laundry chair. "So this it. All the charm of living in a fishtank," Jane waved a hand at the modern design, "but since Tony set it up, you can't beat the price."

Thor looked around. It absolutely announced Tony Stark, and lacked any of the comfort Thor associated with Jane's usual living quarters. "Why does the price matter?" He peeked into the kitchen, and kept looking around as he talked. "If you don't like it, there are always other options."

"I guess it matters less now," Jane said, watching Thor poke around the room. "I get a Stark Industries salary. I'm guess I'm just used to being on a budget from when I never knew when I'd get another speaking fee.

Thor was confused now. Stopping in what appeared to be a living room, he squinted at her. "Isn't there enough money in the account to not budget? You should be able to buy whatever it is you like." To be fair, he never looked in there. He'd assumed that everything she set up the year before continued working. The royalties from merchandising, any commercial or modelling money he'd received, even the random Avengers bonuses he got occasionally. It was all in a joint account she'd created.

Jane looked back at him, just as confused. She had access to Thor's accounts since they set them up together and he wasn't legally recognized as a person but her access was irrelevant. "Thor, why would I spend that? It's not mine."

He actually had to take a step back. None of this conversation was making any sense. "Are we....are you thinking of a different account?" He furrowed his brow and started to cross his arms. "Because I'm referring to the joint account. The one we can both use because it's our money." And in case he wasn't being clear, he added: "The one you used many times with no hesitation when we lived together."

Jane was beginning to wonder if this was some part of Asgardian culture she hadn't been aware of. Did all relationships where Thor was from end with the exchange of a large sum of money? "No, I know the one," she said, probably too impatiently. "I spent from that account for our shared expenses because we were living together. Which we no longer do. It's not our money, it's your money. It's a technicality I'm even on the account. It's not mine."

Thor also felt like he was getting impatient, and explaining something to a small child. "I only have that money because I wanted to ensure you were taken care of in the event I perished in battle or had to take a leave of absence." He threw his arms up in the air. "Why would I have any use of Midgardian currency in any other realm? That money was obviously for you."

Jane's lips pursed and her eyebrows pinched together. She glared. Hard. "We broke up. That means it's not your responsibility to take care of me anymore!"

"Just because we ended our relationship does not mean I care for you any less," Thor retorted, angry that she thought he would give up a responsibility so easily. "I made you a promise that you'd never want for anything, and I do not make light of that kind of commitment."

"Just another responsibility for the king." It might be the harshest thing Jane had ever said to him and she was immediately sorry. Jane took a breath, staring down at the floor. "The only thing I ever wanted was you. Not the king, not the Avenger. Just you." She felt scraped raw, like just when she thought she could find some sort of normal with Thor, she was going to lose him all over again.

Thor had to stop, close his eye and count to ten before continuing. This conversation was maddening.

"You have me," he said slowly through gritted teeth. "How are you so blind to this? There has never been another being in this universe who has had just me. Thor. Not the God of Thunder, the crown Prince, the Avenger. Me. I have shared ever piece of my soul with you. How could I possibly live with myself if I didn't ensure you were well taken care off?"

And how could Thor be so blind as to not to see the crucial difference? "You're not mine anymore." Jane's eyes were burning and she was closer to tears than she'd like. Funny. They'd gotten through their breakup with their composure intact and it was this ridiculous fight that would finally betray heartbreak.

"I've always been yours," he practically roared. Sparks were sizzling behind his eyes and it was taking every ounce of self-control not to short circuit the entire building.

The hairs on Jane's arms stood up and there was a familiar tang of ozone in the air. She expected a roll of thunder at any moment. Jane wasn't sure what she was doing, wasn't thinking, but she crossed over in front of Thor. Some people might be afraid to get close when the lightning was this close to his skin. Jane never was.Thor would never hurt her and Jane's boots were soled in rubber and didn't conduct electricity. There was a brief tingle of static as her hand met his cheek, then she lipped her hand behind Thor's neck, tugged him down to her level, and kissed him. It was different, he was different with the eyepatch and she missed long hair to tangle her fingers into, but it was still Thor.

To say Thor was shocked was the biggest understatement. Almost immediately the storm within him abated as he instinctively reached down and pulled Jane up, coaxing her legs around his waist. Her lips were soft and supple, exactly how he'd remembered them, and he found himself hungrily kissing back. "Oh, beloved -- please tell me this isn't a dream," he whispered, swallowing hard. "I walked away once without even fighting, to my everlasting shame. I couldn't bare to do so again."

Jane was surprised to suddenly find herself eye level with Thor but she adjusted quickly, hooking her ankles behind him for better leverage. "Thor," she sighed, letting her nails scrape through his short hair and against his scalp. Jane's face curved down and into his and she peppered her words with kisses against the corner of his mouth and jaw, smiling at the old familiar scritch of Thor's beard. "Is that what you want? To fight?"

Thor shook his head, eye closed, allowing himself to just enjoy the moment and not over think it. It's all he'd been doing lately -- thinking. And where had it gotten him? Into an argument with Jane. Even if it seemed to be working out, he should never have lost his temper and raised his voice. Another thing to regret later on, on top of everything...but no. He wasn't going to focus on that. He had Jane in his arms, like he'd been dreaming, she was showering him with affection. What more could he want?

"Yes," he answered finally, looking down at her. "Like I should have last year. Fight for us and our love. I love you, Jane. That has never changed nor has it waned through our time apart. I would continue to love you if you would have me, just say the words. These last few months, being near you and not have you by my side..." He swallowed thickly. "I have lost everything. My father. My people. My realm. My eye." He quirked a lip. "I do not want to add you to that list."

"I missed you so much." Jane was now working on removing Thor's shirt, a task made more difficult - though not impossible - by their position right now. Thus accomplished, she set her palm against his cheek. In Thor's arm's like this, Jane's face was slightly above his and it was nice to be able to look down into his eyes. Well, eye now. A part of her would always be sad for what he'd lost.

"When Dr. Strange told me what happened to Asgard, I thought you were dead and there was no one left or no one who thought to tell me what happened to you." She shook her head, hair falling to curtain them both. "I never want that to happen. I know it's complicated. I love you. Whatever time we have, I just want to be with you."

With one arm still firmly around her, he cupped her face with the other, finding it harder and harder to stop from showering her with kisses. The comfortable feel of her hair, and the familiar scent of her shampoo was driving him crazy. "That's all I've ever desired...." Although speaking of desire...while he could hold her up all day long, and would be glad to, he wondered if she was even comfortable. "Should we ... move elsewhere," he asked, punctuating his words with long pulling kisses.

They were nearing the point where talking where talking was less interesting and it was long seconds before Jane could pull her mouth away from Thor's long enough to answer. She did take advantage of the brief respite to tug off her own shirt, a navy blue tee featuring the NASA logo, and drop it on the floor next to Thor's. "Anywhere... I don't care." Truthfully, her abs were screaming but Jane didn't want to let go.

Anywhere had different meanings for each of them, he'd learned a long time ago. As long as there was a floor and some sort of cover for his head (and even that was debatable considering he could control the weather), he was fine. Jane, not so much. He'd barely had time to look around before they started arguing, but he did know the couch was too small, and he didn't want this to happen on the floor. "Bedroom?," he asked, working on the buttons of her pants.

Jane wouldn't have complained about putting some of these ugly post-modern fixtures to better use but she was busy shifting and squirming a bit, trying to kick off her boots. That task was looking frustratingly impossible. She waved an arm in the direction of the hall. "That way."

Reaching down to help her with her boots, he strode into the bedroom and as carefully as he could without tossing her, laid Jane on the bed, his long body positioned above so that he could see her perfectly and help her undress. Boots came off first, as did his own shoes. "Mitt livs lys," he murmured into her skin, trailing kisses down her stomach to the top of her pants. Slowly tugging them off, he continued his assault on her body, whispering in his native language as he went. "Elskede." The pants were down on her hips. "Min kjaerlighet" At her knees now. "Mitt hjerte". Leaning on his elbow, he took her in, laying there in just her underwear. "You're beautiful."

It wasn't always that Thor spoke in his his native Aesir. An occasional pet name but usually only when he was supremely happy. She let the words of love wash over her. "I love you," she told him, reaching out to help Thor remove his own jeans.

"Oh my god," Jane said with a very romantic roll of her eyes. "Yes you do. But that won't be a problem." She was shucking out of the last of her clothing, then reaching over to help Thor do the same. "If you stop I might kill you."

Jane pulled Thor close and he did not stop. Neither did she.

Afterwards, Jane curled up against Thor, head pillowed against his shoulder. She never thought she'd be here again. His voice rumbled in his chest, low like afternoon thunder. "So how long do you think it'll take Darcy to notice you didn't come back? Or," she added with a groan, "your brother?"

"Hmm?" Thor was thoroughly content laying here, his arms casually draped over Jane to pull her close to him. It took him a moment to understand what Jane was saying and he gave a little frown. "Should we advise them that I'm staying here? I mean, if that is what you would like, of course. I can return as well." And there he went overthinking things again. "I shouldn't want anyone to worry though..."

"They'll be fine," Jane said quickly. "I don't even know where either of our phones are right now." Jane's had been in her jeans pocket and Thor had relieved her of those. "Please stay? I mean, I understand if you have to go back but I want you to stay."

Thor kind of glanced around the room, but he also had no idea where the phones were. Or his pants for that matter, really. "All right," he responded, his heart thumping hard in his chest. He didn't want to move anyways. And because he couldn't help it, he looked at her, a grin growing on his face. "Does this mean you will finally accept my money? Since you are making me stay in your home, and share these quarters with you?" He reached down and lightly tickled her ribs. "It would be only fair, beloved."

Jane squirmed with laughter but couldn't resist kissing some of the smugness off him. She paused though, drawing away. They had only just finished having this fight and she was worried about going right back into it. "It's important to you, that I keep that money?"

He nodded. "I want you to have everything your heart has ever wanted, and if I can provide that, why shouldn't you take it?" Thor gave her another puppy dog look. "I'm a provider, Jane Foster. Accept that part of me, and love me for it."

Jane hummed thoughtfully. "Have you ever heard of something called life insurance?"

He thought for a moment. "No. Why would I? I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean by insurance nor why my life would require it." He looked up to the ceiling and tried to see if he'd ever heard of it before, but it seemed unlikely. "Is it something that is necessary to live?"

"No." They had taken a remarkable left turn away from Aesir words of love in terms of pillowtalk. "It's something you buy so that after... after you die, the people in your life are taken care of without you. Is that what you were trying to do?"

"Why wouldn't it be called death insurance?" Midgard was full of confusing factors. "But yes, I suppose in my own fashion I was. It's..possible...that I did not truly accept the dissolution of our relationship. I always intended to find a way to fix whatever barriers there were between us. Love was never one of them."

Jane tilted her chin to kiss him, long and slow. "I didn't know that. And I never stopped loving you... If it's important to you and you want me to have it, then okay." Jane didn't state the obvious, which was that even with the dangers in his life, it was guaranteed her life would end centuries before his.

"Thank you." He did feel a lot better, relieved actually, that things were making sense now. He had Jane, and that's all he wanted to think about.

Well, not everything.

"Wouldn't you agree," he said slowly, turning on his side so he could nuzzle her neck, "that we have much to catch up on?" He twined his fingers with hers again, not wanting to separate for an instance. "Over a year apart...365 of your days..." He gave her a light nip. "Much. To catch up on."

"I do agree," Jane said with an appreciative hum. She smiled, eyes half closed. "We have time."
