Who: Darcy and Nick Fury
What: Waiting for an elevator = small talk time
When: Today, morning
Rating: Green
Darcy had taken the week to work from home. But that didn't mean she needed to stay home. She was annoyed, because of her argument with Loki. Or rather the beginning of it. So, to blow it off she left her Asgard home, dressed in a green top and black leggings, she had Nagini wrapped around her wrist as usual as she made her way to SI to grab her iPod since she'd forgotten it.
Nick also had business to do at SI. It wasn't often that he needed to go to the building (and if he was honest, he tried his best to avoid it) but Pepper had some forms he needed for the building so off he went. It was a nice day, considering the turbulent weather they'd been having. Nick briefly wondered if Thor had anything to do with it, but that was a whole other rabbit hole and he didn't have time for that. Getting to the building at the same time as Darcy, Nick couldn't help but size her up.
He knew little about Darcy, other than her involvement with Jane, and by extension Thor. While he may have started the Avengers Initiative, it'd quickly grown out of his control, and so other than the main players, he'd had minimal interaction with anyone on the outside. Holding the door open for her, he gave a slight head nod. "Miss Lewis."
Darcy knew nothing about Fury. Except that he started the Avengers. Which was pretty cool. So when he held the door open, she smiled brightly. "Thanks." She said walking inside. In truth Darcy looked like she didn't belong in SI. And maybe she didn't but she took her position seriously.
Still, she couldn't help but glance over at Nick and smile. "You're Nick Fury aren't you?" That smile over her features as that snake twisted on her wrist lightly.
There was little that escaped Nick. He'd noticed the bracelet, could tell there was magic shimmering off of it. Unfortunately, that was as far as he knew. Maybe if the Queen Mother -- Frigga, he corrected himself -- followed through with her promise, he could be able to do that. "That I am, Miss Lewis. You can call me Fury. I've heard a lot about you over the years. Strange that we haven't met before this." They reached the elevators and he pushed the button. "I understand you're our new extraterrestrial liaison. Must be challenging."
"Wait, you've heard of me??" That quizzical look given. Already shed moved her hand with Nagini at her backside slightly as she held her hands there while waiting for the elevator.
"Actually it's pretty cool. I like it a lot." She nodded firmly as she smiled up at Fury for the moment. "So what brings you here?"
He gave an almost imperceptible shrug. "A little of this, a little of that." Yes, Darcy Lewis, Nick Fury knew who you were. He also knew that while she had a fairly high security clearance, that clearance didn't extend to his levels. "I think you'll find I'm where I need to be when I need to be."
"Oh cryptic" she said with a smile still on her face... In truth Darcy knew what Nick looked like from those videos she had in her iPad she was studying. "So, I heard you have SHIELD up again. That must be exciting."
"It keeps one busy." That was an understatement. With active recruiting happening (although that was delegated to co-Director Morse), it was all he could do to keep an eye on the HAMMER situation. He looked around the elevator and sighed. "I thought Stark was supposed to have the most up to date tech possible, but he still has the slowest elevators around."
"You'd think right?!" Darcy said laughing a bit. "You know you guys deleted like fifteen songs from my iPod when you guys took it in 2011." She said with a smile. She didn't mind, but it was nice to tease them
Nick allowed a small smile. He barely remembered that incident, even if it was the first that confirmed Thor's presence to the team. Besides, he'd already let Coulson take over some of the recruiting at that point. "If we did, it would have been a matter of national security. Maybe you illegally downloaded them." Why yes, Darcy -- that is a joke.
Darcy was laughing, even before Fury pointed out it was a joke. Still she smiled easily around the man. "Well we work on the same side now so, no more taking and deleting my music"
At that, he gave a real smile and nodded his head. "You have the promise of the government, Miss Lewis. We will not delete your music. Have you met Peter Quill yet? He also is very protective of his music." Fury raised an eyebrow. "He has a Zune player."
"I actually had slurpee with him Sunday...wait...Zune...." Darcy had a horrified face now. "Jeeze even Thor and Loki use ipods..." she thought and smiled. "Well upgrade time"
Nick gave a chuckle. "What works for one may not always work for all." The elevator doors finally opened, and he motioned to Darcy. "Please." He was old fashioned enough that he needed to let him go first.
"Awe, thanks"she said walking ahead of him as she stepped through for the moment. Once in the other side she smiled. "So. What do you think of all this... ya know the whole aliens and God's thing.
"Old news, Miss Lewis. Very old news." Nick reached forward and pushed the button for his floor, and without asking her, pushed the button for her floor. Nick had his ways. "You forget -- there are levels to this government that you can only imagine. You have been granted some ...privileges, but you have a long way to go yet."
Darcy nodded her head. "Yeah that's true. I like the privileges I have now though. I mean I get to protect my friends." She said proudly. "Not to mention I'm learning a lot about Asgard."
He could only assume the things Loki was teaching Darcy, and none of them were appropriate for polite conversation. Instead, he nodded and gave a little hum. "Asgard. Pity it was destroyed. I'd always wanted to go. Maybe when your friend, the good Dr. Foster created her Einstein-Rosen bridge." He gave a half-shrug. "That's how the world goes sometimes though."
"Ugh I know right. I was so bummed Thor didn't take me with him. And now it's gone." She frowned a bit. But nothing she could do. Loki was supposedly working on a means to rebuild it. But she wasn't going to share that secret...yet.
Nick hummed in agreement. Standing in the elevator, hands clasped behind his back, he looked at the numbers and sighed. Small talk. Bane of his existence, but necessary. "There are other planets. Space-travel is not so far away. Maybe you'll get your chance." His floor dinged and he turned to give her a polite smile. "Good day to you, Miss Lewis. Stay safe."
