Who: Nat and Fury
What: Catching up
When: Backdated to last week sometime
Rating/Warning: Green
It'd been far too long, Nick thought as he prepared the workout room. The building Tony (Pepper, really) had given him for SHIELD things was working out nicely. Within a week, it was entirely operational and had everything he needed. If it wasn't for the fact that he loved his home, he probably would never leave. As it was, he spent quite a bit of time here. HAMMER was moving weapons, and though Bobbi and he had tried their best to figure out from where it was eluding them. He needed a good workout, and Nat had always been one of his favorites to spar with. Waiting for her, he started with a few light stretches, trying to limber up. He was 60 frickin' years old -- he couldn't just jump into these things. After Nat dealt with Clint, she'd gotten a message from Fury. A light smirk over her features as she came to slip out that bed and head into the bathroom. After freshening up, she dressed in her work out clothes as she made her way to the new SHIELD building. She'd heard from Tony and Steve about SHIELD being rebuilt here. So it was nice to see it up close. Once inside, she made her way towards that gym, just to see Fury stretching, and she couldn't help but laugh and clear her throat. "You know, Rogers is older than both of us and he doesn't need to stretch his legs," She said jokingly as she tossed her bag to the side and crossed her arms. "Rogers also took a super soldier serum which I haven't," Fury pointed out in his dry way. It was good to see Nat. If he was another person, he might have reached out and hugged her. Instead, he gave her a solid head nod and pointed to the gym floor. "After you. When you've landed a punch, I'll offer you water, and not a moment before." Nat gave Fury a nod in return. They weren't huggers. But the bond Nat had with Fury felt like something of a father/daughter type of thing. The thought was nice. When I motioned to the mat, she simply made her way over. Hearing his terms she gave a simple nod of her head. "Sounds good." With her stance at the ready, she threw the first punch. Easily dodging it, Fury put his fists up and smiled. "Come on, Romanoff. Don't be easy on me. Pretend I'm a Nazi." He bounced a little on the balls of his feet, his hands up ready to strike. He threw a few punches back, followed by a kick, none of which landed but he wasn't expecting it to. This was just for fun. "Barton okay? I haven't checked in yet, wanted to leave it to you and Morse first." It was left unspoken that Fury was not the man to go to with feelings or emotions. He wasn't a soulless monster -- he knew what Barton was going through, knew how badly it hurt him but it wasn't his place to comfort the man. It was his place to build him up once he hit rock bottom. When he suggested pretending he was a Nazi, Nat just laughed. A shrug of her shoulders given as she increased the speed and force to her hits at this point. His hits might have been meant to miss of enticing, but Nat was Simi g to land hits on the man she thought of as a father. Hearing about Clint she nodded his head. "Truthfully, he's a mess. But nothing some tough love couldn't fix." And Nat was all about tough love with her boys. "And you're the toughest one out there," Nick added, barely missing one of her hits only to fall into the other one. Ouch, but exactly what he expected. Natasha would never treat him like he was breakable. "Still wish you'd come back to SHIELD. I miss having you around to bounce ideas off of." Quickly, he did a shoulder roll, popping up behind her. This fight was energizing, and exactly what he needed. In fact, he hadn't realized until this moment how much he missed her. "And you in general, I suppose. If you want me to get all soft in my old age." Nat couldn't help but laugh at Fury for the moment. "Careful, Fury. Sounds like you might actually have feelings." She teased as she spun around and kicked at his chest. "You know me. If it's not tough love, it's not real." And to have someone like Nat even care let alone love someone was both scary and wonderful.. though it bordered more on the scary side a good majority of the time. Cupping her foot in his hands, he also chuckled. It felt good to let himself loose. As much as he enjoyed working with Bobbi, and they were getting closer, it wasn't the same as with Nat. "Feelings? That does sound dangerous," he agreed, twisting her leg. "Almost as dangerous as running a top-secret spy global organization." And then a slight miscalculation had him land square on his ass. "Point to you." Standing up, he brushed himself off and got into stance again. "Have you heard anything about HAMMER? Weapons are moving at an unprecedented rate. Some of them have vibranium capability." With Fury on his ass, it always made her laugh. But hearing about HAMMER she shook her head. "Last I saw HAMMER I had his face slammed into a desk" she's with a smile on her features. Her hands held up to stop the sparring as she thought for the moment and crossed her arms. Hearing about Vibranium wasn't good. "Clint and I will look into it. Anything else we should know?" Nick shook his head. "We don't have much else right now. You know how tough it is to get the Wakandans to talk about anything. They won't even disclose if some has been stolen in the last while. Co-director Morse and I have been investigating non-stop but with our skeleton crew, we aren't getting anywhere." He cracked his neck and sighed. "We have some agents, but they're not as field tested as you two. I think maybe if you're game, the four of us should sit down, talk strategy." He paused for a moment, almost wrestling with himself before admitting: "Something bad is coming. Something big. I don't know what but I can feel it in my bones." The fact that Nick said something big had Nat tense up."I might have an idea." She thought for the moment. "Let me kick Clint's ass for one more day and well come to SHIELD for a debriefing. You know us, we get things done." Since Nat arrived that unsettling feeling never left. Which meant she was going to have to get in touch with Tony about that spear. He felt an odd sense of relief. Again, not that anything was lacking in SHIELD but knowing that Nat and Clint were still on his side? That was worth more than he thought it would. "Sounds good," he replied, his answer cool and collected. "Now. Anything else I need to know about?" Translation: How've you been? Nat smiles for the moment. "You know, the usual. Aliens trying to take over the world" She replied with a smirk. SHe knew she should tell him more, but right now she settled for sparring with her old mentor...No, her old friend. |
