The second sign was the erratic thunder and lightning show from outside. Nick had been sitting in the dark, unable to sleep when these two things happened. Always having been a curious person, he got up from the couch, and started to walk towards the window before he was overcome with a crippling headache. Going down on one knee, he tried his best to breathe through the pain. Flashes of images and thoughts, visions of things he knew he'd never seen before, all of this bombarded his head.

When he finally came too, he was on hands and knees, sweat dripping down and pooling between his hands. It took a few more minutes before he gathered the strength to get back up, and when he did, it was like he knew: this thunderstorm wasn't an ordinary thunderstorm. Slowly continuing to the window, he peeked out, leaning against the pane for support. The show continued for a while longer, the lightning dancing through the sky, accompanied by the loud booms of thunder.

At the end, when the night fell dark again, Nick had put enough pieces together to deduce the following:

1) This universe was not stable. It seemed that other universes had the ability to affect this one. This was either a good thing or a bad thing. Nick wasn't sure which yet.

2) The average human being would have no idea what had just happened, but they'd start to speculate which was always a bad thing.

Booting up his computer, he did a cursory scan of media outlets. It was too soon for something to come up, but he did see a random r/newyork post with a few people talking about it. It seemed like climate change, and global warming was being blamed. Good.

A few emails later (and a few network posts as well) and Fury was finally able to go to sleep. The general population would agree with the global warming. The special population would deal with the actual cause later.

For now, he was going to sleep. And perchance, to dream.

Captain Marvel...Carol, where are you ...
