Thor had not been anxious to meet Jane as much as he was curious to see how she had been and wanted to know - and see for himself - that she was doing well. From the network he could see that she was going to be using the lab space provided by either Princess Shuri or Stark, himself, to continue her work - whatever that may be. And that he was pleased about. Jane's work had always brought her great happiness, happiness that he knew he would not be able to provide. It had taken him time, but he had come to terms with the knowledge that he would not be the one to provide her with the happiness that she deserved. But more than that, he could not. He had a duty to Asgard, to his people, and he had left on more than one occasion to do that. She had been displeased with the distance that had been put between them, both literally and figuratively and even now, with his duties as king to a displaced people that had not yet arrived, Thor knew his mind was still not focused on the here and now as much as it should be. Never mind that nagging doubt that sat at the back of his mind. That whisper that something - somewhere - was ill. And try as he might, he could not raise Heimdall. That unsettled him more than he had told anyone. More than he would tell anyone. It was his concern to bear as King. Still, he sat at a table, having waved to a few people that had recognised him - even with his short hair - and taken some photographs but declined company as he was waiting for someone. He had his second large cup of coffee in front of him - on the house, the female server had said. The one for Jane had been freshly poured, too, for her arrival. There was a small selection of pastries on the table, too, that Thor was resisting the urge to help himself to as he waited, hands folded, for Jane to join him. |
