Who: Bobbi Morse and Nick Fury
Where: His place
When: Saturday Night
What: Reporting in
Rating: TBD
Stark had told her that Fury was here and lurking around. Bobbi thought that sounded typical for the Director, but Tony sounded as if this were out of character. She wouldn’t really know, to be honest. She could count the times she’d met Fury on one hand including this time. Stark had also suggested that there might be a need for S.H.I.E.L.D. so Bobbi was glad that Fury had made contact. If anyone would have deeper insight to what was going on it would be him.
She was settling into her new place with Daisy, and Stark had given her a job she could yawn her way through. With those things out of the way she took Fury up on his invitation to meet at his place and made her way there without telling anyone where she was going of what she was doing.
Habit had her double back on her trail and other standard procedures to shake anyone who might be following her. Bobbi didn’t even have to think about it anymore. Being on the run with Hunter made it second nature so she was confident they would have privacy when she knocked on Fury’s door.

Nick could count on one finger how many visitors he’d had in recent years, and yet in the last week or so, he’d lost track. To be honest, this new timeline scared him, and rightfully so. After his conversation with Strange, and realizing that yet again, the weight on the universe was on his shoulders…..well, Nick had to admit: some things never change.
Buzzing Bobbi in, he tried to remember anything he could about the blonde but it wasn’t much. By that point, Coulson had taken over the hiring. Nick was just the Director, capital D, thankyouverymuch.
Still. He knew who she was, and he’d always heard good things about the mockingbird. With a carafe of coffee on the table, and a few savoury rolls next to it, he waited in the kitchen. They weren't close enough to lounge in the parlour. Soon, maybe.
Getting up to answer Bobbi’s knock, he quirked an eyebrow as he opened the door. “Morse. Shoes off. Slippers if you need them. Coffee in the kitchen.”
**
Bobbi knew better than to get a smile or any kind of warm greeting from Fury so the eyebrow thing just got that absent smile from her. “Yes, sir,” she answered. It actually felt good to reply with that. She hadn’t realized how much she’d missed being an active agent until now.
Fortunately, she wasn’t wearing boots or the act of kicking off her shoes would have taken longer. The slippers were ignored as a hindrance. It would be easier to move and fight in her socks than have flappy things on her feet.
After, she ventured into the kitchen. Coffee sounded and smelled good. “Thank you, sir,” she said with a nod then poured herself a cup. “Have you been here long?” No sense wasting the Director’s time.
**
He shook his head in response. “Although, from the conversation with Strange, seems we’ve all been here longer than we thought. I’ve only recently been made aware of the timeline shift.” He did not go into detail, and provide any more information. Instead, he leaned against the kitchen counter, arms crossed.
“I’m not your boss here,” he pointed out. “I don’t have staff. I don’t have a title. You don’t have to call me ‘sir’ if you don’t want to.” That being said, he wasn’t going to stop her if she wanted to. Actually, he’d probably prefer it, but again, wasn’t going to say that to her. Reaching for his mug, he wrapped his fingers around it, his arms still crossed. “Have you managed this transition alright?”
**
Bobbi listened as she took a sip of some of the best damn coffee she’d ever had. Part of her mind wondered if that was where Fury got his start in SHIELD. Agent Nick Fury. Coffee man. She’d have a good laugh about that later. For now she stood across from the Director.
“Yet,” she said. “You don’t have staff or a title, yet. Sir.” One side of her lips lifted into a crooked smile. “It’s been brought to my attention that SHIELD would be welcome here, and I for one wouldn’t mind being an agent instead of a member of Stark’s security.” Bobbi made her point about calling him sir. It would just be too weird to call him Nick.
“Probably not as well as I should be,” she answered. “Been getting a little drunk with Daisy.”
**
Daisy. In another life, he’d known her as Skye. One of Coulson’s recruits, nothing he’d had to do with. Thinking about it, Nick had to admit -- he missed the guy. He wouldn’t mind seeing his face pop up. “Well, lay off it. We’re never going to get things on the ground if you pull a Tony on me.” He gave her a pointed glare but tried to soften it. Maybe just a one-eye, instead of his two-eye. “That being said, you’re right. This world is sorely lacking some sort of global security; although, I am glad to know that they lifted the accords here, and there seems to be at least some acceptance of enhanced humans.” Nick made a mental note to ask Strange about it at a later time.
He quirked a smile. “I guess that means you’ll want to be on my list, huh. I thought you were working for Tony anyways. Like all the others who needed something to keep busy.” The derision was barely concealed.
**
The glare from him didn’t cow her. If anything it made her feel a bit more comfortable. Bobbi had heard stories about the infamous Fury Look and more than once wished she’d been a fly on the wall to see him use it.
“Not planning on diving into a bottle and never coming out, sir.” And now that it looked like things would be put in motion she had reason to put that all aside. “And yes, sir. I want in. I am working for Stark, but would you want to be a leggy blonde working for a rebounding Tony Stark?” Her turn to lift an eyebrow. Stark hadn’t made a move, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t.

That got a chuckle out of the older man. “Point well taken, Morse.” Personally, Nick had always wondered how Pepper hadn’t killed Tony. It was interesting to see where this new timeline was taking everyone.
“I haven’t had the opportunity to do the intel I’d like,” he admitted after a moment of silence. “This place is ..taking me some time to get what I’d like. In the meantime, I’m glad to know you’re on my side here.”
And until he really sorted it all out, sides was the only way to put it.
Still. Bobbi had put a bug in his mind now about things to do. His mind was already starting to race, putting things together, but since he had her here…
“So how do you envision things going? You have a unique position right now where my undivided attention is yours.” He waved a hand. “You have the floor.”
**
There was perhaps only one other member of SHIELD who could claim to ever have had Fury’s undivided attention, and Bobbi really wasn’t Agent Hill. Still, Bobbi wasn’t the type to back down, and she indeed had a few ideas.
“We don’t have enough data to get a good hold on what is going on,” she started as she straightened up a bit more at attention. “From the sounds of it, everyone is reacting instead of being proactive. That’s our first priority. We take the reins like we always have. Make it look like a supportive effort when we’re actually directing the orchestra.” She paused for a drink of coffee.
“I’m in a position to get close to Stark.” And not in that way, thank you very much. “Make myself indispensable to him, and I’ll know what he knows.” One corner of her lips quirked upward. “I believe you did a similar tactic with Agent Romanov.”
**
“The Black Widow was born to do that role,” Fury retorted back as softly as he could. Still. He could appreciate the initiative….but Tony wasn’t their enemy, and Fury said as much. “Stark may be an idiot, but he’s an idiot who cares about humanity for some reason. I’m not concerned that he’s hiding something he shouldn’t. In fact,” Nick continued, “I don’t know that Tony would be aware of what information he has. A common mistake with genuises -- expecting them to know everything. They don’t.”
This was good advice in general.
“Always overestimate people so that you can actually get a sense of them.” If she had paper, he would have told her to write that down.
“It’s the people around Stark that I don’t trust. So yes. Do your recon. Get me more information. We need to find out how we can do this.” He tapped his foot on the floor for a moment. “And Skye. She’s trustworthy in my timeline. Is she trustworthy here?”
**
His advice was pretty much Rule #1 in the SHIELD Agent Handbook...if there was one. “I don’t think he’s hiding anything, sir. From what little interaction I’ve had with him he seems neck deep involved in things. I haven’t spoken with any of the other Avengers, but I feel it’s safe to assume they’re working with him. Get close. Get first hand intel.”
Bobbi nodded to his final question. “I’ll vouch for her.” Daisy had proven herself to Bobbi more than once.
**
Nick gave a solid nod. “Excellent.” He lifted his coffee cup and quirked a non-existent eyebrow. “The more things change, the more they remain the same. Now help yourself to another cup of coffee. I think we have some plans to make.”
