Who: Peter Quill and OPEN TO ALL When: Friday night, 9:00PM - 3:00AM What: DJ STARLORD'S DEBUT Where: Retro Club NYC Rating: Let's call it Green unless anyone gets cray-zay
Tonight was the night. Honestly, was there really a better career on Terra for Peter Quill than to be DJ? Music was such a huge part of his life and always had been, thanks to his mother. He'd been abducted by Yondu far too early for him to really have any actual aspirations like being a doctor or a teacher or an accountant or anything else. He'd run around with the Ravagers in space because that was all he knew, but even then he always took his music with him and typically had his headphones on whenever he was carrying out a job. So when he was brought abruptly back to his home planet and suddenly faced with the need to have a job, he found out that he was able to actually work as someone who played music for people to dance too. Well, that was a no brainer. The problem was, he couldn't make a career out of it yet. He had to get hired first, and even then, it'd only be a few nights out of the week until he built a name for himself. So he was going to have to find something else to do during the day, but for now, he was stoked to be making his debut at a club that played music he was actually familiar with.
Retro Club NYC was the perfect venue for Peter. He'd grown up listening to the music from the decades they were known for. There were disco balls, bright lights, a huge dance floor, a bar, everything to make for what he hoped would be a successful night. Even Gamora was in on it as one of the dancers hired to keep people on their feet. He was happy she was going to be there; it'd be good to have someone he trusted nearby. Plus, he'd get to watch her dance all night and there wasn't really much better than that as far as he was concerned.
The time had come. It was just before nine and doors had been an hour before. It was sure to be a crazy night. Peter already had a pretty vast knowledge of songs from the 1970's and 80's, but he'd done more digging and research on some other hits his mother hadn't gotten to introduce him to and after going over his list, making corrections, adding here and subtracting there, he thought he'd made a pretty damn good playlist, which he obviously dubbed Awesome Mix vol. 3
"What is up Retro Club NYC?" He called out into the mic to all the party goers. Obviously he led in with the Theme from Shaft while he was talking. "Tonight is hosted by yours truly, Peter Quill, aka DJ Starlord and I will be bringing you all the best songs from the 70's and 80's, my personal favorites. I will accept requests but make no promises if your requests are lame." As the song reached its climax he held an arm up in the air. "Let's go!" He spun the music right into I Want You Back by the Jackson 5.
