School had gone okay. School was always kind of easy for Ned. Sure, sometimes he had to study a little if he slacked off in class, but generally speaking if he listened to the lecture or whatever the teacher was talking about in class, he picked it up well.

No, this wasn't about school. This was about February. February meant Valentine's Day and that was for people who were in love or at least had a girlfriend and Ned had none of that. Sometimes he still missed Betty, but even if he thought about rekindling things, he knew he had to keep a large part of himself a secret and he wasn't sure that was fair. He'd seen how that went with Liz and MJ for Peter before MJ figured it out.

He sighed, stopping in front of Stark Towers with his thumbs looped into the straps of his backpack which were on his shoulder. Normally after school he hung out in the lobby for a while, but today opening those big, windowed doors seemed like a pretty taxing job.

Ned hesitated for only a second before he walked through the door. He definitely didn't want to be the one to hold of MJ and while he was currently attempting to keep his issues to himself, he also knew that MJ was good at seeing through BS.

Standing in the elevator, he was a little tense. He kind of wished the elevator moved faster.

He glanced to MJ and opened his mouth as if to say something like 'nothing,' but then rethought it and looked back at the digital clock that was counting up. "I guess I was just thinking about Valentine's Day." He shrugged as if to say 'no big deal'.

"And how it's a bullshit, made up holiday?" MJ asked, knowing that wasn't likely to be the case. She didn't want Ned to feel bad, especially not about something that was a solely capitalist and ultimately meaningless creation.

When they got to the level where the common kitchen and lounge area were, she stepped off the elevator. She was supposed to text Peter when she got here, but that could wait.

That was so obviously a lie that MJ didn't even bother to call it out. She shrugged in response to his question. "Not sure," she said. "We haven't talked about it yet." She was okay with whatever he wanted to do though. It wasn't like she was the kind of girl who expected flowers and candy and all that nonsense, but if her boyfriend wanted to grab dinner or something, she'd be game for it.

"So you have your eye on someone?" she asked.

	Ned's face fell a little, which was probably already telling. He sighed and found a place to sit, sinking down into the chair like he had been walking for hours. "No" He practically pouted. 	MJ nodded, settling into a seat across from him. "Are you still into Betty?" she asked. Personally, she'd never seen the appeal, but Ned had seemed happy during their romance on the Europe trip. Did he? Probably the expression he had on his fact gave some of it away. He gave a bit of a nod and then a shrug. "Okay, so like... maybe deciding not to stay together was a little rushed?" Ned had been a little swept up on the whole fact a girl had wanted to go out with him that he felt he could get anyone and now that he was back to single again he was reminded that girls like Betty were far and few between.

"But it's not like it could work anyway. I mean, I can't even tell her anything. Like double secrets."

	Yeah, that wouldn't work so well, MJ could understand. It also meant his options were seriously limited. "Have you met Tandy?" she asked. "You should. She was very pretty, but very intense - kind of like MJ, but with more bad-ass vibes. "It would be nice to have someone else who knows what's going on. 	"Yeah, but like... how cool is she? I mean, like, would she even want to talk to me?" Ned knew he was into cool stuff, but that a lot of people found it lame. It was a thing he'd disagree with, but he didn't seem to get much of a say in social norms. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	MJ rolled her eyes. "She wouldn't be cool if she didn't want to talk to you." At least not by MJ's definition of cool. Ned was a great guy, smart and funny and loyal. Anyone who couldn't appreciate him was someone MJ didn't have time for. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
