Who: Rogue, Drax
What: Rogue gains some powers. Drax starts taking a week-long nap.
When: a day or two after Rogue and Remy talked.
Rogue was on the move. She knew that the longer she was away from Sinister the more likely it was she was going to get caught. She hadn't been able to lay a hand on any of the Asgardians and she was still mad about that. She knew if she was going to go toe to toe with Loki to capture him she'd need to be able to take a hit from him. He might not be the strongest but he was stronger than anyone she'd fought.
She decided on Drax.
And followed him one afternoon when he went out to get, presumably, snacks. That seemed to track with his nature. She smiled as she caught up to him. "Are you off to get snacks? Ah'm trying to try new things, suggestions?"
Many people went in and out of the Tower, heroes and employees and visitors alike. One of those, Drax, wandered out constantly. He existed on a steady diet of snack foods from various worlds. So far, Terran snacks were his favorite, and he could often be found eating their neon orange cheese snacks while shouting at a television showing pro wrestling.
Which was the case last evening, when he ate every last snack in his apartment. That meant he needed to use the piece of plastic to buy more snacks at one of the oddly named bodegas nearby.
Drax might not be the most verbal creature, but he never minded company and nodded to the young woman by his side.
"I am. I can suggest a great many snacks," he said, almost boastfully. "Priggles, which are flattened and dried potatoes. Cheese Toes and Cheese Its. Pressed-zulls, which are twisted and salted baked bread. Corn made in kettles. Which is a lie, since they are made with micro waves. Pockets of Hotness. Mounds candies look like Rocket's turds. Then there is the Rock Star beverages, which have no rocks or stars in them." After a pause of a few seconds, he sagely added, "That is a disappointment."
She listened with big eyes, she knew snacks but she'd never heard then described as such and she smiled. "Kettle corn is often made in big kettles at fairs. If you want the real thing you'll have to get that." She smiled at him, poor thing had no idea.
"Ah, well, the human digestive system couldn't handle rocks or stars." She grinned at him, "have you had Pop Rocks, which don't have rocks but they do pop."
The girl named Rogue obviously knew the history of snack foods, and Drax was interested. He stopped at a crosswalk, knowing from past experience that he shouldn't step out when there was a warning for pedestrians. He dented the ships on wheels that hit him. Terrans seemed to get angry about that.
"I could withstand rocks that pop," Drax said. It wasn't boasting. He'd eaten candied lava beetles before and they had pokey pinchers, but also tasted like the sweetest spiced candy. "Perhaps you can show me what these are, and I will buy some."
He nodded up ahead to the next block and a nearby park that he sometimes stood in, while passersby threw small metal disks at him.
"I like to share my snacks with the birds in this park. Perhaps they would like rocks that pop," he suggested.
“Er, now ah wouldn’t give them pop rocks, dude." she said lightly as they walked,"You can find em in any of the bodegas, though." she gestured to one on the way towards the park. She shook her head this man was something else. She wasn’t sure WHAT but he was something.
She tucked her hands into her back pockets as they walked." You can get them there ah’think." she pointed with her chin at the nearest bodega, though, and smiled. He was tough looking. He might work for what she needed.
Maybe.
Drax was indeed muscle-bound, strong, and durable. He wasn't very savvy, though, and didn't expect that a comrade would lead him astray. Falling for it, he looked across the way to the bodega, pursing his lips and nodding. This path looked agreeable, a pleasing place for a walk, and not that far away from the Tower.
"If you will accompany me, friend, then I will prove my worth with the popping rocks."
He began walking that direction, waiting to cross the street and not appearing to be bothered by any strange looks or gawking drivers going by. Like a man on a mission, he walked into the park, not suspecting that anything at all was amiss.
Rogue shook her head, some people were super gullible. It made her life so much easier. She pushed her hair back, out of her eyes. She didn't mind this, though, he'd serve a purpose.
She followed him across the street, towards the park..she picked her moment carefully, waiting until they had pop rocks and were sitting down to eat them.
Green eyes watched, waiting for the moment no one was around at all, before she reached up behind him, making sure he was looking the other way before she reached her hand towards the back of his neck.
Drax had been pleased to buy the popping rocks, and as proof that he could withstand any food, he had poured the entire pouch into his wide open mouth. After that, his mouth was still open, tongue flailing as the rocks popped around, eyes glaring as though this was a feat beyond any warrior's capability.
Eyes started to water. His body scars itched. His nipples felt sweaty.
The next thing he felt was a shock through his body, a shaking that he couldn't control and his mind sinking quickly into darkness.
Drax slumped forward as he passed out, her hand still on his neck, and then he began to fall forward, face first onto the ground. Some unmelted pop rocks fell out of his mouth and bounced like jolly little red specks in the puddle of drool coming out of his mouth.
She watched him fall onto the ground, shaking her head, she got to her feet. Her skin mimicked his, so she pulled her hood up, and for a moment wondered how he survived this long being so gullible.
Rogue moved with a more confident gait as she headed towards the interior of the city, so she could wait out his abilities, storing them for later.
She decided on Drax.
