One of the coolest things about finding out that Tony was her biological father was automatically having siblings. Sure, maybe only Morgan was her biological sibling, but Peter Parker was as good as a little brother and he was completely adorable. Darcy wanted to make an effort to get to know him better, to offer her services as a big sister for whatever he might need.
She’d popped by the penthouse today with a pizza and a six pack of beer. Giving your teenage brother booze underage was definitely the kind of thing a cool big sister would do. “Hey, kid, what’s up?” she asked. “Got some time to hang?”
Food was always an effective way to get Peter’s attention. His head popped up from over the edge of the couch as Darcy came in, and he didn’t need any more incentive than the smells wafting from that box. “I’ve always got time for pizza.” And for semi-sister figures too. Peter turned off the old Star Trek marathon he had running while absently working on adjustments to the web formula, heading for the kitchen.
Peter set down some waters (because honestly, he didn’t think the beer was for him too) and plates on the table, more than ready to eat. “What’s new? Is being Tony’s daughter any less weird yet?” He couldn’t imagine going through a revelation like that later in life.
Darcy laughed and flopped down on the couch, setting the pizza on the table while she waited for Peter to get stuff from the kitchen. She eyed the water and grabbed one of the bottles of beer, holding it out to him. “I won’t tell,” she said.
Besides, in her opinion, if he was old enough to go out and risk his life to save the world, then he was old enough to have a beer.
“Being his daughter isn’t the weird part,” she admitted as she grabbed a slice of pizza and one of the plates. “It’s the money that’s weird. I’m definitely not used to it. And Tony keeps buying me things. Like, if I mention something in passing.” She got the feeling he was trying to make up for lost time, but that didn’t make it any less awkward for her.
“Really?” Peter said at first, eying the beer like it was some sort of test. But Darcy definitely wasn’t the type to go for a gotcha teaching moment about the risks of underaged drinking, and Peter didn’t even know if he could get drunk in the first place. Champagne on New Year’s and a burning gulp of whiskey from Fury’s flask didn’t count either. “Thanks.” Besides, May would probably prefer he go for it here rather than at a rowdy high school party. She was a cool aunt, after all.
“I feel like that’s kinda his way of showing how much he cares. In Tony-speak.” Hearing about the truth to your parentage was one thing, but finding out said father was a billionaire on top of that? That would throw anyone’s mind in a blender. “That must be so surreal. I mean, it feels surreal even when he helps me out with stuff.” For a kid who grew up dumpster diving and a family pinching pennies, Tony’s almost limitless resources was a shock at first.
He cracked open the beer and took a sip, shortly followed by a wrinkled nose. “Oh man.” He tried another sip, that one easier than the last. “I think this probably takes some getting used to.”
“Yeah, it’s one of those things you have to develop a taste for,” Darcy said, managing not to laugh at his expression. It was good beer at least, not the cheap crap that she’d started out drinking at his age.
Surreal was definitely a good word for it and she nodded. “And he’s so used to it that he doesn’t understand why it’s a little weird,” she said. “But he’s obviously doing it out of the goodness of his heart, so I feel bad even trying to decline.” No one wanted to see Tony’s sadface.
She took a bite of pizza before speaking again. “So, what’s new? Are you still grounded?”
“It sounds like he’s trying to make up for lost time.” It had to be weird realizing you had a whole secret kid - Peter could see how spoiling Darcy now was Tony’s way of coping with it. “Maybe you could ask him for some quality one on one dad-daughter time? Maybe you could get him to go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go together and travel somewhere cool.”
Peter paused to puzzle over the beer again with another sip, the jury still out on how he felt about it. “I’m not grounded anymore, but I still gotta be careful.” He was back to his usual patrols, back to his usual routine of saving cats from trees and stopping late night muggings. It was an improvement from breaking into secret government facilities with a chaos god, at least. “But besides Spidey things I’ve been helping May out with some of her work events. And hanging with Ned and MJ. The summer’s going by way too fast, though.”
Which had him thinking - “I kinda want to do something special for MJ before it’s over? I just…I don’t know what.”
Making up for lost time sounded right to Darcy and she nodded, considering his suggestion. “Yeah, maybe,” she said. “Once things calm down a little.” With all the recent chaos, she was worried about him doing too much and having more problems with his heart. Somehow, she felt that travel with Tony would not be calm.
“Are you going into your senior year?” she asked, knowing that he was super smart and wondering if he was starting to think ahead to college. Given her own college experiences, she was not the right person to give him advice about that.
Girls, on the other hand, were something Darcy knew a lot about. “Okay, how special are we talking? Like, weekend in Paris? Dinner at a nice restaurant? I can definitely help you figure out something.”
“Yeah,” Peter answered after finishing off another slice of pizza - with a few more tentative sips of beer that he was slowly finding didn’t taste too awful. “And that’s all going to be a lot, so it’d be good to enjoy the summer while we can.”
Soon enough it would be college applications and stress on top of everything else they dealt with, and Peter…didn’t exactly feel ready. He was already enough of a chaotic disaster when it came to getting to high school; balancing Spider-man with more advanced classes seemed a recipe for more of said chaos.
“Paris? I wish.” Unless he asked for Dr. Strange’s help again he didn’t know if it was possible, and Peter didn’t want to bother him too much for non-world saving things unless he could offer something in return. “She said once that she wanted to see the Eiffel Tower cause there’s this theory that it was built for mind control.” He smiled at the thought; that was typical MJ. “That’s why I feel like a fancy dinner wouldn’t cut it, you know? I think she’d like something more unique.”
Considering they had access to (a) Tony Stark’s fortune and (b) a wizard who could portal them anywhere in an instant, Darcy figured Paris was totally possible, though she understood why Peter might not want to tap either of those resources.
“Hmm, okay, something unique,” she said. “We’re in New York City. There have to be a ton of options.”
She set down her own beer and grabbed her phone so she could google. “Oooh, there’s a place where you can take a glow in the dark body painting workshop,” she said, glancing up to see if Peter might be interested in something like that.
Peter almost choked on his pizza. Giving a little cough before he swallowed, he looked over at Darcy with wide eyes. “That seems kinda-” Like something they wouldn’t want technical minors at, honestly. “Um, intimate? I mean, do people like - do that with clothes on?”
He was guessing not. And he was guessing he wouldn’t be able to stay composed enough. Even though they’d been dating for months now, it still felt new in that easily flustered teenaged way. “MJ likes art though. And she’s really good at it.” He had been the subject of more than a few of her people-in-crisis sketches. “So maybe something sort of like that but less…naked?”
“Less naked? You’re teenagers.” Darcy was confused by this. Weren’t they supposed to be making out like rabbits or something? “Whatever. Uh… let’s see what else.” She glanced back down at her phone and scrolled through a few options. “You could take her to the Museum of Interesting Things,” Darcy suggested. “It’s by appointment only.” And it was definitely not intimate.
Darcy picked up her beer and took a swig, studying Peter. “So I’m guessing you haven’t gotten naked with your girl yet? You need any pointers on that?”
“Less publicly naked,” Peter said, and by this point his ears were burning. Darcy was so open about these kind of things, but her cutting right down to the point was why he liked her. And it was why he could totally see that she was very much Tony’s daughter. “But that museum sounds perfect. She’d love it.”
Peter opened his phone briefly to bookmark the site, and Darcy’s next question had his face growing predictably pink again. He was hoping not to combust on the spot. “Not - not yet. Not like that. We’ve done stuff, but-” Stuff he wouldn’t elaborate on because he didn’t want to end up stuttering more than he already was.
“I don’t think I need pointers? Right this instant, I mean. But I’ll know who to call when I do.” Seeing as how Darcy was like the Ghostbusters of relationship advice. “What about you, are you seeing anyone right now?” Peter realized he didn’t know much about the people important to Darcy beyond Jane and her family and those in the network. “Has Tony pulled the whole ‘you better be good enough to date my daughter’ type of thing yet?”
It was adorable when he turned pink though Darcy wasn’t surprised at all to hear that he hadn’t gotten that far yet. Peter was smart and brave, but he was still a little nerd who clearly didn’t have any game.
“You can hit me up anytime you have questions about anything,” she said. Even before finding out she was a Stark, Darcy knew she lacked shame and was perfectly okay with that. His question made her laugh. “I hook up with Quill sometimes,” she said. “I’m not really a relationship kind of girl.”
And the idea of Tony trying to threaten anyone she might date seemed ludicrous considering his own background. “And not that I’m aware of,” she said. At least if he had, no one had mentioned it to her.
“Thanks,” Peter said with gratitude, knowing he’d feel much more comfortable asking Darcy for input than going to his aunt or Tony - because that really would be asking for an embarrassing experience. “Peter’s super cool, though. He’s got good taste in Pokemon. And movies. Mostly.” Footloose excluded. He was another older sibling-ish figure, something Peter had missed out on growing up.
“Maybe Tony’ll save all the extra stereotypical dad stuff for Morgan.” Managing a parent-kid relationship when that kid was grown up seemed complex for sure. “Hey, me and you and Morgan should do something sometime. Maybe we could take her to the movies? Or the park?”
Darcy grinned and grabbed herself another slice of pizza. “Hell yeah that would be fun,” she agreed. Morgan was a great little kid and she’d enjoy spending more time with both of them. “Speaking of movies, let’s watch something now. You can pick.”
And she agreed that Peter Quill was super cool, though she liked him for very different reasons than Peter Parker did. Since she’d already embarrassed the kid enough, she wasn’t going to elaborate on that though.
“Hmm,” Peter said, grabbing another slice of pizza and continuing to work on that beer (which, thanks to his weird physiology, had yet to give him a buzz) before he reached for the remote. There were a lot of options, and he started looking for something funny - or one of those movies hilariously bad enough to be enjoyable. “Maybe not Star Wars for the thousandth time…”
