Party's Over - the epilogue
As soon as the maintenance found out some of the cameras were broken, and the guards realized what happened, the rehab center went into a lockdown. There were no signs of a forced entry, and the guards on duty appeared addled, like they didn't remember clearly what happened. There was no explanation. And the escaped prisoner's camera didn't show anything outright on it.
It was like he slipped out as quiet as a ghost, leaving only a broken collar and a busted door lock behind.
The security force began checking the areas around the rehabilitation complex, and that meant checking the resorts.
As guards kept searching the shore to look for any missing boats or aircraft, three armed guards came into the wedding reception area. The lead guard walked up to the bride's table, wearing sunglasses at night. Mirrored. So no one could see his eyes.
"We've had a security breach," he said, without so much as an excuse me or an I beg your pardon. "We're looking for a suspicious individual in this area. Tall. Pale. Dark hair. We're going to have to ask you to end the party and return to your rooms, and report any sightings to the front desk."
So it worked. That was a relief at least. Still Jane had to keep her expression in the neighborhood of shocked and annoyed. "I'm sorry, are you actually throwing us out of our wedding? This is my wedding."
"Because of a security issue," the man reiterated, "we are asking you to voluntarily end this party and return to the safety of your room, before we institute a mandatory shelter in place order."
