Who: Bucky & Darcy
What: One of their regular lunches out; Darcy learns some gossip fodder and asks for a threesome, totally normal
Where: A deli near SHIELD HQ
|At least once a week, as long as the world wasn’t totally on fire, Darcy liked to meet up with Bucky for lunch. He was fun to hang out with and she knew that it was difficult for him to get out since he was technically still a wanted criminal. The whole thing was utter bullshit, but until they could fix it, she was willing to deal with the subterfuge to hang out with him.|
They were at their favorite deli today and she was anxiously awaiting the big juicy burger that she’d ordered. “So, anything new and exciting with you?” she asked.
The deli kind of reminded Bucky of the ones he and Steve used to go to, before pizzerias and hot dog stands were located on every corner - it had been a time of kosher butchers and a sense of belonging for a whole lot of immigrants, using your grandmother’s recipes as a prime starting point, potato pancakes and matza and chopped liver. Oh, and amazing meaty sandwiches too. He always liked those.
He’d ordered a pastrami on rye with some Russian dressing, plus an egg cream (though an egg cream contained no actual egg or cream, discuss) and was sipping on the latter, wearing his usual baseball cap and sunglasses ‘disguise’ (though he’d slipped the shades off, and just relied on the brim of his hat to shadow his face a little) - a long-sleeved shirt covered the vibranium arm, and while he hated having to wear something like that in the summer, he’d deal with it. Better than being arrested, anyway.
“Uh - “ The question made him pause. “What do you consider exciting, exactly?”
“It’s not a matter of what I find exciting,” Darcy said with an exasperated sigh before she picked up her diet coke and took a sip, her bright pink lipstick leaving a ring on the straw. “If it’s exciting for you, I wanna hear about it.”
She didn’t know exactly how he spent his time, but she was willing to discuss any shows he might be binge-watching or superhero training he was doing. It was Darcy - she could make anything exciting.
“What have you been up to? I mean, you do things other than sit around quietly in your apartment when we’re not out to lunch, right?” She really hoped so, otherwise that would be very sad.
“Oh - no, I mean. Of course I do other things,” Bucky said, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck with his good hand. He had a job, so, that helped pass the time - SHIELD was a pretty hopping place to work, as Darcy knew.
He sort of knew what she meant now, fingers tapping on the table as he attempted to think about how to put it. “I - went on a date?” he shared, then added, “Or actually, we didn’t really go anywhere. I just invited Nebula over for a drink.” And then they just so happened to get to fucking and it was - sublime, really, but he admittedly hadn’t asked her over just for that. She’d been depressed about Rhodey poofing out of this universe, and he simply wanted to offer her a drink and give her a place to stew about it if she wanted.
So she did stew about it. In bed with him.
Darcy was not expecting to hear that and she gave him a surprised look. “Oh really?” she asked. “That’s interesting. I don’t really know her that well.” Obviously he couldn’t date anyone who wasn’t in the know about the whole multiverse thing. She would have been less surprised to hear that he’d gone on a date with Steve though.
“Did you have fun? Are you going to go out with her again?” Darcy loved gossip, though she wouldn’t go around repeating it or anything. She just liked knowing things. It was why she’d learned how to hack.
“We’d been out a few times before that,” Bucky replied, and he supposed those were dates too. Dinner at the Chinese dive, then the drive-in movie theater, then the dance festival at the park - that all counted, right? “So...yeah, probably.” No probably about it, he’d see Nebula again - he was just so awkward talking about this sort of thing since he was rusty; he hadn’t dated anyone in so long and even when he was basically the main cad of Brooklyn he didn’t date exclusively one person either.
He blushed, poking the straw in his egg cream - did he have fun? Oh yeah. “Thought about asking her to go steady - but people don’t say that anymore, do they?” he glanced at Darcy, icy eyes curious.
His old-fashioned phrases were so endearing. Darcy chuckled as she shook her head. “No, sweetie, people don’t say that anymore. You should have a conversation about if you want to be exclusive or not though. A lot of people like to date casually. Like me.” She was not the relationship type.
“But why is this the first I’m hearing about this?” she teased. “I thought we didn’t keep secrets.” Darcy was a classic over-sharer and always expected everyone else to be the same. “I mean, you hear about my hookups.” Probably more than he cared to know.
It was true, he heard a lot about Darcy’s...exploits. Bucky thought that if she was happy, she should just keep doing whatever she was doing - he was more a private person though. “I don’t know - it’s been awhile since I’ve dated anyone, I had to work some things out for myself, I guess?” he mused, looking down into the depths of his drink. He hadn’t even really talked about it with Steve, but he fully planned to.
If the programming hadn’t been erased, he’d have been terrified he’d wake up in the middle of the night in Winter Soldier mode - hell, he still was afraid of that. The nightmares were fully capable of rattling his bones, because Shuri could erase the code but she couldn’t erase the after effects, unfortunately. So sharing a bed with someone on a regular basis might be dangerous - there were just a lot of things to think about.
“But I promise you’ll get all the details from now on.”
Darcy grinned, though she was distracted from responding right away by their server delivering their food. Once they had everything, she couldn’t resist taking a big bite of burger, closing her eyes in delight as she enjoyed it.
After chewing and swallowing, she paused before taking another bite. “So… how serious is this dating?” she asked. Despite her oversharing and bluntness, she could be circumspect when the situation called for it and she suspected that asking him flat out if he was getting lucky would not go over well.
Food was a good distraction. Bucky took a bite of the pastrami, closing his eyes and savoring the taste - it had that smoky, black peppery, toasted coriander sort of feel and that was perfect. Took him back to his youth, somewhat, of kosher delis - there was one in particular, a place he and Steve went to, where the butcher used to feed scraps to stray dogs in the alleyway. A flashbulb memory.
“Serious?” he repeated, considering the question. Was Darcy asking if he and Nebula had sex yet? If so, he wasn’t quite sure how to answer - if only because he wasn’t certain if Nebula would have wanted that information shared. “Well, we’re not about to get married, but - it’s...we do things dating couples do?”
So yeah. That included knowing each other in the Biblical sense.
“If you need any advice, I’m happy to help,” Darcy said. “Whether that’s where to go on dates or how to make a woman scream in bed.” She said this matter-of-factly and then took another bite of her burger, watching for his reaction, knowing it would tell her a lot more than his words did.
Wha - ? Glacial eyes widened a touch, just because he wasn’t used to having these kinds of conversations anymore (and he certainly wasn’t having them with Steve, star-spangled virgin), but Bucky managed to not clutch the proverbial pearls too hard. Or respond with some cocky answer like ‘well, I haven’t had any complaints so far.’ Not like he’d turn his nose up at some well-intentioned advice, even if he’d had a lot of sex in his day, after all, kind of what someone might call easy. Easy as falling off a log.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” he smirked, using pastrami as a distraction yet again. Or something sandwich-shaped to hide behind. “I’ll definitely ask about being exclusive though. Things have changed a lot since I’ve had to ask anyone that anyway.”
The slight widening of the eyes was enough for Darcy to suspect strongly that Bucky was sleeping with Nebula. Good for him.
“Hey, before you go getting exclusive with someone,” she said. “What are the odds of me talking you and Steve into a threesome?”
What the hell?
He’d done a few things in the bedroom, in his time, but admittedly a threesome was not one of them. Bucky coughed, picking up his drink to take a swig since apparently he’d been so surprised at the inquiry, he swallowed wrong and, subsequently, air went down the wrong pipe.
“Very low,” was his response. Because while he loved Steve a lot, he didn’t love him like that. Not in the ‘let’s get our dicks out’ kind of way, sorry to crush Darcy’s hopes here. “Though if you’d have been able to talk him into it, I’d have considered it too.”
Which meant it would never happen. Darn. Oh well, he’d just keep having intense and explosive sex with a gal from space. “Speaking of meat,” he motioned at her plate. “Finish your burger, we’ve gotta be back at work soon,” he chuckled roughly. Hey, it’s not like he needed another reason to get in even more trouble, especially with the likes of Nick Fury.
