Who: Valkyrie
what: a narrative
when: coming home after the trip with sif and Thor to the City.
where: New Asgard, her and Loki's home
warnings: language, Valk beating things up
status: complete
Valkyrie stood in the center of their living room. The house was too quiet. Loki was not the loudest of men but he had a sound to him: one she'd grown used to hearing. It was silent now and it was driving her mad, she never thought before being here she’d miss the sound of Loki just breathing.
After fighting with Thor, to keep him from wrecking the City of New York, she'd come home. They were going to have to talk about it, find a way to fix this, but for now, she had needed to get home to tend to her wounds. People had watched Thor lose his temper. Then they'd filmed it. And her fighting him. Her mind was still racing: how do they spin this so their temporary home did not bear the brunt of this. Thor's temper was going to damage everything she and her previous selves had worked for and she had no idea how to fix it.
Instead of healing up, she paced in a circle. The fingers of her right hand rubbing at the tattoo on her wrist.
» Problem one: her husband was in custody.
» Problem two: Ross was advocating for hundreds of years. No way that was going to happen, not on her watch. Not that that much time really mattered too much, Loki had plenty of years left on his life, but she refused to let him suffer that..
» Problem three: she couldn't break into the Raft, which is where she was guessing he was going to be, or any other prison, without causing a major diplomatic incident.
» Problem four: was New Asgard in danger from this?
» Problem five: she really missed her husband.
None of them had easy fixes. They could try a diplomatic approach but she didn't think that would work. But she'd try almost anything to free her husband. She would not trade the safety of their people but she was willing to risk some measure of it by breaking him out if she must. She would bear the brunt herself if it meant they'd weather this.
She blinked as her barefoot squelched, eyes closed for a minute. Three breaths were taken and let out slowly before she took her shirt off and cleaned the floor. Then her foot. Then trekked up to her bathroom. The hot water was set to boil like a lobster before she finished stripping and stepped in. She took stock of her injuries. Nothing that wouldn't heal over in a day or two. Bruises. A few scorch marks. A few deeper cuts that she'd gotten sliding across pavement. Her head still rang from the thunder at her friend's call.
She sank down to her knees under the water, head pressed against the wall. Tears mingled with the hot water, blood swirling to drain below that. She stayed there until the water turned to ice, crawling out only to dry off and dress in her leathers. She left Dragonfang on its shelf, grabbing one of her spears instead. Her fingers gripped the metal as she stormed from the house to find Aragorn.
She hopped on and nudged him, barely able to give him directions. All the anger she'd buried so she could be functional needed a way out sooner rather than later, and the shower had not dulled it. She hunkered down until Aragorn brought her to somewhere she could simply smile and get attacked. Then she crouched on his back before leaping into the fray that greeted her.
Aragorn had to drag her away an hour later. He literally grabbed her by the back of the leather armor she wore and dragged her home. She got deposited in the back yard and she dragged herself inside. She didn't care she was bleeding from dozens of small cuts, or that bruises she got from Thor were now layered under new ones, she didn't even want to be home right now.
Instead she crawled into bed, burrowed into the furs until all she could smell was Loki, as she fell into a very uneasy, nightmare filled sleep. She would figure this out but she was no good to Loki, or Thor or Sif or their people unless she got sleep.
