SHIELD Staff Meeting 7AM Thurs [OPEN (to SHIELD)]
Staff Meetings were always headaches, but Nick tried to make them headaches for other people. He had his agents well-trained. If you didn't show up, you didn't get assignments, but if you didn't show up, you didn't get assignments.

Nick liked to work with the kind of people for whom that worked.

There are baked goods from the bakery and some of the worst coffee ever in the pot.

The whiteboard has one item on it.

"The primary topic on this fine dry morning is the creature incursions, including any new ones that may have been washed up by recent events.

"If you have additional items, please add them to the board and we'll cover them as time allows.

"We'll start with a review of what we know, and then open the floor for what we're doing about it."

Nick looked out the window at the New Yorkers who were working on cleaning up, most unaware of what had happened here.

Nick just hoped no one would repeat Coulson's joke about the missing 'Asgardian who cleaned up after himself.' It was already a bad enough morning without re-runs.

Natasha let a wry smile rise briefly before biting it back. Dry indeed. She still felt like there was water clinging to her in places. "No new creatures were seen during T'Challa and my's clean up operations and we heard of no reports while we were out."

The city wasn't going to forget the damage or the image of Thor calling down thunder and lightning any time soon. The news media were having a field day with it all.

Nick hadn't heard any reports either, but that wasn't always good news. "I'm more worried by what didn't get reported than by what did. Or what might not have been killed."

"The data lab is pulling in chatter from the 98Cs that sounds like someone got a clean look at it during a break in the storm. We'll see if they can exfiltrate any useful pictures. We may have to send a team in.

"Whoever had that place may have or may be in the process of abandoning it, and if so, we'd rather go in and not let them destroy the evidence."

It was almost starting to become comfortable - meetings where Bucky brought his old-fashioned pad and pen, where he picked out a pastry that he enjoyed and a cup of coffee that tasted like crude oil; it was something he enjoyed less and was probably sitting in the pot for who knew how long (maybe since the last meeting?) but he was never one to be picky.

He set down the coffee cup, fidgeting slightly. "So we know that Plum Island is the key to the hybrid monsters that were unleashed a couple months ago?" he said. "We sending anyone down to that hotspot to see what else they can gather? Intel or more samples, proof that they were behind it?" Not like the government or any authority seemed interested in that - they mostly cared about waving their dicks around to slap Asgardians after Thor's storm.

"I don't know if we'll be involved in the Asgardian aftermath too. That seems more like...a diplomatic job."

Nick looked around the room. Everyone was high enough clearance for this. He took a deep breath.

"The last time New York took this much damage was also at the hands of an Asgardian. Thor's brother, Loki, the one who this was putatively about, summoned a fleet of murderous aliens we couldn't beat. Now we have this. It doesn't matter much if you saved New York from your brother a few years ago if you killed grandma this week."

He went to the board and wrote the second topic. They'd all expected it, but it was going to steal the air from every other topic.

"The aftermath is the diplomat's job. And they'll work it out."

"Our job is what it always has been. Come up with ways to defend the earth from threats.

"Even if that threat is sometimes our friend. We need an ace up our sleeve."

"Or, you know, four or five aces."

"This topic is open for ideation, and contributions will be open for some time."

"At the present, and hopefully forever, Asgardians are our friends and Thor in particular has been very helpful. But we will have tools at our disposal if we need them."

Nick tried not to put his hands behind his back. He desperately didn't want to be Colonel Fury at this moment. These agents had more than earned the freedom and autonomy they exercised. If they hadn't they wouldn't be here.

"Anyone have anything else to add on the Asgardian front?"

Phil was quiet this time, or at least for the moment, taking it all in. His mind working, processing information and contemplating plans. It was easy to come up with plans, not so easy to come up with something that would work. Or that had an at least reasonable probability of working.

Because with this, they could never be absolutely certain something work. They never actually could be, true, but some things gave you even less certainty than usual.

He wasn't fond of that, never had been.

And he was a planner, always had been. A planner, an analyzer, the kind of person worked well with this type of task. He worked well with a lot of things, but this was one of the things he was particularly well-suited for.

Not for the first time was he grateful for his attention to detail, too.

Stifling a sigh, he just kept taking down notes -- with a seeming idleness that anybody who even halfway knew him would know was a lie -- and working his way along.

Tony breezed in at the appointed time, avoiding the coffee entirely since he'd been subjected to it before during his consultations.

"Hey, Nick. Miss me?" He took a seat at the meeting table, putting his phone down and waiting for Rogers to enter. "Phew! There's a lot to cover. Hope the Kaiju hasn't got your tongue."

It was Tony talking more or less to hear himself talk, but also to take the edge off. He eyed the door waiting for Steve to come in.

Nick nodded to Rogers and indicated the coffee. He didn't want to imagine what kind of coffee Tony preferred, but Nick had learned to drink the stuff in the army, so he didn't really care how it tasted.

"Nothing actionable, yet. So we're either going to have to get lucky with other people's intel satellites spying something during what the Post has been calling 'The Thornado', or we're going to have to send someone in to take a look."

Nick looked back at Tony. "It might call for stealth."

Tony half-smiled, half-winced at the Thornado reference. He smiled because it was a hilariously funny name for it...but the wince was for how bad Thor must be beating himself up over everything. And Tony was no stranger to beating himself up after things going wrong.

"And people that know crazy super science. No use sneaking in if they can walk the walk, but not talk the talk." Tony looked over at Steve, since he had an idea. "Could send in Bruce and Hope. Hide their faces with a photostatic veil. Fake some credentials, maybe. What do you two think?"

"S.H.I.E.L.D. can create credentials. I promise you that even if Miss Van Dyne needs to apply her mother's methods, I can make her a full bird colonel in the DoD-I.G. organization and Dr. Banner can be a JAG, as long as they can manage the role-play.

"With the negative possibility that the people on Plum Island might actually shoot at inspectors general and judge advocates. Have them come by and we will fix them up. We will need 4 hours."

Oh,and it goes without saying that this is a joint mission. Full support and cooperation from both orgs and full sharing. This isn't anyone's private war. It's everyone's private war."
