Who: Open Thread
What: House Warming Party
When/Where: March 1st in New Asgard

On the surface, it all looks like a perfect day for the party. Thor has ensured great weather, meaning even the backyard is set up with chairs, food and drinks -- and being an Asgardian party, there is no shortage of food or drinks. Actually, maybe be careful which ale you take. Some are for our ..hardier friends.

Someone has taken over the sound system, not sure who, but Spotify is playing some oldies, and if Peter was there, he'd greatly approve.

The hosts are mingling and walking around, smiling and pretending things are great. If you squint though, you might notice that they have somehow become experts at ignoring each other and not being in the same space.

For those that have cleared it before hand, there are bedrooms upstairs that you can use to sleep in. Otherwise, the hosts kindly ask that you remain downstairs.

Loki & Valkyrie (closed - but both will be mingling!)

Loki arrived with the Valkyrie, dressed in a tastefully tight black cocktail dress and heels that looked downright deadly. Ebony hair was swept back over her shoulders, and she kept any adornments to a minimum so she didn't give away her identity. Only a gold cuff on each wrist. If someone figured out who she was, hopefully they wouldn't hit a girl at her brother's housewarming party.

She brought a throw blanket as a gift, made by the village's best weaver. Someone might need it after yesterday's storm, which had Thor's signature all over it. Loki knew it was bad form to talk about it to the other guests or the hosts right now. The mischievous part of her wanted to, but even joking about it might cause another storm to brew.

Getting hit with lightning wasn't fun. Thor's youthful years of learning to use the weather often resulted in Loki's hair frizzing. Which was the reason she learned to keep it slicked back.

"Well, this seems like a lovely party," she muttered in an aside to Valkyrie, smiling a little at the same time. Royal etiquette was useful that way. "Even so, I can't help but wonder what sparked Thor's temper."

Valkyrie had tastefully left Loki's gift for her at home. It didn't quite seem the time, though, she had wanted to wear it. Instead, she opted to just braid her hair back and weave a few gold threads through them. She paired it with a black, tailored, pinstripe suit. She looked sleek, but sharp, and she made sure to make a statement with it all - she was not just someone to brush off, a figurehead, she'd worked hard for this place and she was going to remain doing so.

But she wasn't letting anyone forget she'd left her own mark. She just was being more subtle about it than normal. She was proud. She couldn't deny that one any.

She kept a smile, though small, on her lips - she rarely fully smiled anyway - "It is that, yes." she said carefully, before shrugging. "Had to be something serious. I'll admit, I'm curious." she spoke carefully, quietly, even if her eyes danced a little with curiosity. She wasn't about to break form to dig for information here. Even if she really wanted to know.

As much as that would have been a dramatic fashion statement if they walked in wearing golden helms, it probably wouldn't be good form toward the hosts either. Her's with the too-high horns and Valkyrie's with golden feathered wings that might give those horns a run for their money, height-wise.

It was more than enough that everyone could tell with a glance who wore the pants. Loki didn't mind that, one bit. She harbored a bit of a one-sided thing for Sif from afar, when they were all much younger. So being by the side of a strong and valiant woman warrior? Yes, please.

Loki looked at her with an expression that was pure mischief, even if she knew digging for information right now wasn't the time. Still, a little hint here and there might dredge something up later on.

"Definitely serious," Loki replied. "Give me but a week's time, and I'm certain I can ease our mutual curiosity. I won't even have to resort to less than honorable methods either."

For instance, shape-shifting into something as small as a fly, which she did long ago in a certain Dwarven forge. That plan backfired magnificently.

She watched him thoughtfully then nodded. "A week. I look forward to seeing what you dig up." She grinned at him, she was a little sore on the whole going from King to not King thing. Even if she hadn't wanted the job, she took it seriously.

"I hate parties, just so you are aware. The endless need to remain on good behavior is exhausting." She muttered under her breath. Knowing full well she was almost required to be here.

Loki knew what good she could have done as a ruler. Instead she did evil when she had the throne, so being King was best left to their Valkyrie or Thor. That whole period of her life was an awful upheaval, and she still didn't know who or what she was supposed to be, even now. Of course, talking about those things wasn't something the family did well, so it often went unsaid...

Loki looked over and scrunched her nose a little. She was good at advising, but trying to remain on strictly good behavior all of the time? It was not only exhausting...but it was very boring too.

"I only liked parties when I was much younger," she admitted. "Basic rules of conduct are don't yell obscenities or cause a scene. Don't throw things or stab anyone. Don't vomit on anyone's boots. And don't upset the hosts. Other than that? Eat, drink, and be merry."

That last word was said in a sigh, since she wasn't sure what to do at a housewarming other than give a gift for the home and congratulate the hosts. Still, Loki had to sit through several banquets in the feasting hall. This was smaller, but the basic principles seemed the same.

Valkyrie was not any better talking about things that have emotional weight to them. She wasn't the best choice, but she was a solid one. She worked hard for her people. now anyway.

"That is a lot harder done than said. Half the time I walk around and piss someone off." she wrinkled her nose again in annoyance.

"I'm also very good at stabbing. Not so good at small talk." she mused with a dark laugh.

"Oh darling, that's why I like you so much," Loki replied, as sweet as honey, even though the cut of her smile was full of devilish delight. She leaned in and whispered conspiratorially near Valkyrie's ear, "Leave this to me. I'll make the rounds."

Then she slipped off to mingle. Not necessarily to talk, either. There were some things that could be learned merely by watching and waiting.
