They were all enjoying a quiet time. No emergencies. Paperwork had been filled out and filed. Bobbi found herself with rare time on her hands, and she was going to make the best of it, damn it! And if she was going to have a day off then by damn so was Bruce. Bobbi made a few phone calls, raised her voice a few times, made a couple of threats then darted out of the office before Fury could catch her at it.
After running around to make some preparation she went straight to the lab where she knew she’d find Bruce. She gave a warning knock on the door before going right on it. “Hey doc. Anything going to explode?”
*
Bruce glanced over in surprise when he heard Bobbi’s voice. He’d been expecting Tony or Hope when someone knocked on the door. “Uh, not at the moment, no,” he said, giving her a smile. She was the recipient of most of his smiles, if he was honest. For a long time, he assumed that he’d be alone, that the Other Guy would prevent him from having any sort of relationship, and he was still constantly surprised that she was interested in him.
“What brings you by?” he asked. “Everything okay?” It was rare for her to stop by in the middle of the day and he hoped there wasn’t some kind of emergency that required his, or Hulk’s, attention.
*
“Everything’s fine,” she said with a smile that was not to be trusted on her face. The door wasn’t locked behind her. Hell, she hadn’t even shut it so she wasn’t planning on indulging in naughty activity with him.
“Save whatever it is you’re in the middle of.” She was dressed in jeans, ankle boots, a light sweater and a jeans jacket so there were no plans for anything fancy.
*
That smile made Bruce a little nervous, but he followed her instructions without question. He’d learned by now that doing so made his life easier. And better. Having someone like Bobbi around was a good thing. She got him out of his own head and made him actually live instead of merely existing.
He closed down his computer and turned to her, glad to see that she wasn’t wearing anything fancy and his wrinkled khakis and polo shirt would probably suffice for whatever she had planned. “Are we going somewhere?” he asked, wondering if he should grab his jacket.
*
“Good heavens, Dr. Banner!” she declared in her version of a mad scientist voice. “How astute!” Bobbi grinned as she reached out to take Bruce’s hand. “But first…” She didn’t have to lift up on tiptoes so she just leaned in to steal a kiss. “Hi.”
Immediately after she gave his hand a tug to lead him out of the lab. “Hope you’re bringing your appetite.”
*
“Come to think of it, I did work through lunch,” Bruce admitted, grabbing his jacket off of a hook on the back of the door as he let him tug her out of the lab. “So, yes, I can definitely eat.”
He’d have to let go of her hand to actually put his jacket on and he was okay with holding off on that for the moment. “Do I get to know where we’re going?” he asked. It didn’t really matter if he did or not since he trusted Bobbi.
*
She wasn’t in any hurry to let go either, but she did have a surprise for him. “Out,” she answered with a cheeky smile. “Nothing to worry about. Just wanted to spend some time with you, and I know you forget to eat. We have some rare downtime. Let’s take advantage of it.”
*
That smile gave Bruce pause. He had a feeling that Bobbi was up to something. He was okay with being a little adventurous though, so he nodded and finally let go of her hand to put on his jacket, making sure he had his wallet and keys as well.
“I’m all yours,” he said.
*
“Damn right,” Bobbi said with that smile on her face again. She would gladly fight anyone who wanted to muscle into what they were creating here. And she was pretty sure that she’d come out on top. Pun intended. She saw him first and she licked him. If that wasn’t staking a claim she didn’t know what was.
Once he was ready Bobbi took his hand again then led the way. Idle chit chat ensued as they walked toward Central Park. But the park itself was not their destination. Instead she took them toward the Met, but she didn’t even stop at the famous museum of art. Their destination instead was The Cloisters where a table and two chairs waited for them. Next to the table was a waiter dressed like a medieval monk.
“Lunch!”
*
Bruce was impressed when they arrived at their destination. She’d clearly put a lot of thought into this and he appreciated the effort. He would have been pleased with a simple lunch somewhere or even just the nice walk and chatting. It was good for him to get out of the lab sometimes.
“What a nice surprise,” he said, leaning over to kiss her cheek. “Thank you.”
*
Ok that was adorable. Bobbi smiled and there might have been a little bit of pink to her cheeks. “C’mon, handsome. Let’s eat.”
