open thread: When Kaiju Attack
Who: Open. CLOSED (2/2 @ 11 PM Pacific).
What: The Avengers tackle an attack on the city, on three fronts.
When: One weekday afternoon, mid-January.
Where: various locations.

    CURRENT TEAMS & AGENTS: HERE.

Threading Timeline: 1/15/2020 to 2/2/2020 (threads will be frozen at 11 PM, Pacific). This event takes place over the course of one day, depicting only one moment in time. That means that other logs can be posted at any time after this and mention clean up efforts.

Plot Summary, Map, and Size Comparison: HERE.

Notes: Monsters are NPCs but you can mention monster actions/reaction/descriptions in your tags to get a hit in. Also, it's ok to post things set after the monster attack or mention it happening in network posts or logs! Clean up operations will be ongoing the day after the attack and it will take weeks to clean up the mess. A news post toward the end of the month will address that as an ongoing situation.

Team Threads: To help with communication, we'll try something new. If anyone needs to post a plan or change of plans to their teammates, or to say something to another team, you can communicate in your own team thread by putting "message to ____" in the subject line of each post, filling in the blank with a name or team number. That way, someone else knows to look there and can reply with a brief message!

If anyone playing a team member gets RL busy, it's ok to excuse your character to go save a civilian. Just make sure that there are other teammates there capable of taking down the creatures!

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents: Those stationed in each area have the option to interact in either Team Threads or Civilian Threads. They're the only baseline humans that can move through both threads freely. You can have them get caught in the crossfire, or describe what they're doing around each location to help out. Since agents have the same communication device, they can "message to ____" other agents or a nearby Avengers team.

Civilians Thread: It's optional to submit any short narratives here. Because this is a game-wide plot, it counts toward Activity Check!

Civilians (baseline humans) do not have a comm device, only cellphones. They can thread things in the Civilian portion. These threads can happen simultaneously with what's happening in the team fights. That means if something happens in a team thread, you can incorporate that into your thread if they are in the nearby vicinity.

Since it's imperative monsters are stopped ASAP, Avengers can't drop what they're doing to go off and thread with civilians. They have a city and people to save. However, if a fight seems 99% handled, a team member can excuse themselves to assist civilian characters, OR they can interact in this thread directly after a fight is finished.

Have fun!

The beast was about to lunge forward, trying to leap up onto the bridge. It never got the chance to make it there.

The blast from Carol's hands hit it in the face, blinding it instantly. The power punch that followed effectively cracked its skull and knocked the rampaging monster off its feet. It staggered back, falling into an old brick building. The sound of a creature that massive falling down was like an earthquake. Glass and brick rained down, and abandoned cars hopped on the street.

After letting out one last growling breath, the creature did not move again.

However, if anyone was sheltering in place inside of that building, they might need help. And there was a wide swath of destruction left in the creature's wake, down the entire Brooklyn Heights riverfront, and down along the Columbia Street Waterfront District.

"That's what I'm talking about!" Sam shouted when he realized that Carol had taken down the beast. Now that he didn't have to play distracting duty, he flew closer to the building and realized there were people inside. "We got some civilians to rescue."

He landed right at the door, assuming that Carol and Hope would follow close behind. "Relax, folks, we'll have you out of here in no time."

Wow. That was easy. Almost too easy, but Carol wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. She was about to rear back and hit it again when the thing went down. If she had thought about it, she would have attempted to possibly catch the hulking beast, but maybe it was too heavy even for her.

Instead she headed down for where Sam was. "Yeah let's go!"

Wow, damn, that reminded Hope of a scene from Godzilla or something. "The bigger they are, the harder they fall?" she suggested, with a bit of a chuckle coming through the comm device. "Nice job though, guys."

Her wings zipped her toward where her teammates were, slicing air and making quick work of the trip - she was the size of a wasp when she arrived, but quickly hit the regulator when she arrived; it brought her back to full woman-sized, since getting people out of a damaged building would be easier when she wasn't tiny. "Assembly line? Let's bring them out and to where there's medical."

She did a scan of the area before, and zeroed in on where there were folks treating injuries. They would get those who needed treatment there as soon as possible.

update to team three

If there was one thing Phil knew how to do, it was how to keep people in line. Not a skill he'd completely expected to be utilizing in this place -- or at least, not like this -- but he really should've figured that it'd come up sooner rather than later, even if he wouldn't have gotten the fine points of it correct.

That would be why he was sort of running interference, keeping gawkers at bay -- because even with this kind of thing, there were people who were just this side of too stupid for their own good and wanted to get up close enough to see what was going on -- and ordering reporters back. Old skills never died, they just went dormant.

And for SHIELD agents, they always stayed right under the surface.

Even as he was not at all gently suggesting to someone that they get out of the area, he was moving to notify team three. "In case you were all wondering, the number of people trying to get close and see what's going on is 'too many for their own good'," he said. "I'm keeping all non-essentials back as best I can." Because it was important that the search and rescue work not be hindered -- and honestly? He wouldn't have felt whole if he wasn't helping at least somehow.

"Assembly line," she agreed with a nod of her head. She got down to ground level and figured the best thing that she could do was to lift this giant thing as much as she could so that they could get anyone who might still be alive and trapped. That could go for the building as well.

"Thanks, Phil!" she called back into her comm. Grabbing a hold of the giant monster, she lifted with her legs.

"Let's hurry, I have no idea how long I can hold this guy."
