Rating: Green but with violence and lotsa water

Plot Outline & Teams

THINGS TO NOTE:

• In order to hit multiple locations at once, our villainess of the week (former-and-somewhat-current) HYDRA baddie Candice Lee has scattered various remote boxes connected to the trident from her central location. She is able to control the functions of the trident and the boxes they are connected to from there - hence the floods that occur around the world.

• Candy has sent her henchmen to each location to man the boxes. The henchmen won't be too difficult to take on - they're sort of a dumber offshoot of HYDRA. Think neckbeards and red hats with H.A.T.E. on them which actually stands for 'HYDRA Authoritarian Troop Enforcement' because why the hell not? Destroy the boxes, contain the floods, wipe up spills with paper towels, do whatever you want to the henchmen - there will be plenty for our heroes to fight!

• ENJOY!

By the time Tony reached the other ferry, Friday was finished running countermeasures to combat the rocking motion of what looked to be a very overloaded boat full of people. Someone wasn't obeying the capacity limit. In Tony's head, a dour lady dressed in grey was ringing a bell while a giffed 'shame shame shame' was blinking in big white letters underneath. He put himself against the boat before it took on more water and used enough thrust to both steady it and help guide it along. Entirely too many people were holding one arm while videoing on their phones and screaming. Tony would have waved to the cameras if not for the fact both hands were busy, plus hamming it up would be a bad idea considering the Accords were still in place outside of the USA.

"That's a good idea. While I help these guys to shore, you guys ever have panna cotta before?" he asked Clint and Scott. "It's like someone took a 'nilla pudding cup and plopped it upside down on a plate, but it holds its shape instead of going mushy. There's this rooftop bar over in Sacca Sessola that has it. Maybe we can hit it after we're done mopping up. No pun intended. Cos water."

'Eloquent as ever, boss,' Friday told him. 'No luck on pinpointing the approximate source of the disturbance. We'll need more satellites networked in to do that.'

"I'll chat at Pep since I've got the slow boat to the nearest port," he told Friday, leaving the other ferry to Scott and Clint.

Yeah, it had been a real long time since Hope had driven a boat, but she was definitely getting the practice today. The engines of the ones driven remotely from Wakanda were pretty sleek though, she had to admit - she pressed it ever onward, speeding more and more, slapping the waves with each dip and bump.

At least she hadn't capsized yet, even remotely. That would have been embarrassing. But no, the boat was knifing through the turbulent water with ease. Maybe she still recalled a thing or two from those days of family trips out on the San Francisco Bay.

"Scott, that's not legal," she said over her comm device - highly advanced kimoyo beads, probably, something that kept everyone in touch that was definitely not so asinine as a phone. Hope said the word to Shuri, and the girl had just laughed. "Hotwiring a boat, I mean. But still, nicely done. Coming up on your left to get this guy who just wet himself."

It was another jet skiing dude, and she slowed down enough to add him to the rescued crew. "Let me know if you guys need anything else from here. I have access to like...pretty much everything."

"See now why couldn't I do all this over Skype?" Clint asked. The combination of light and panicking tourists was doing nothing for his hangover headache.

Clint blinked hard and took the controls of the boat. Once Scott was in they were off and Clint was speeding them across the lagoon. "We're on our way."

“Like fell in the water, or.. ?” Scott trailed off, dismissing the question as both something he didn’t want to know and something they didn’t really have time for. If the guy had indeed had an accident, well. It was understandable given the circumstances and didn’t warrant further commentary. “Nevermind, not important. Come on, let’s get these people off the ferry.” Which was more a pep talk for himself than anyone else, as they likely hadn’t gotten as distracted by people wetting themselves as he had.

He scrambled aboard, doing his best to calm the panicked people there, and ordered those that seemed either too young or too frail to handle the choppy seas to climb into the boat he and Clint had rode in on. “There’s more than I was expecting. Hope, you mind sending another boat our way?” He helped a young boy and his father off the ferry. “And hey, are we any closer to finding that box? ‘Cause I could actually really go for panna cotta right now.”

Tony had let out a little 'yay!' noise that Hope showed up to the party, and was in contact with Pep in the meantime.

"Base is workin' on that," Tony said into the comm, while trying to help guide that ferry out of the worst of the flooding. "Once they locate it, we'll get a shout out. How do you wanna to divvy this up? I can get to anyone out in the water the fastest, if you guys want to tackle the box and baddies."

It wasn't like he wasn't used to multitasking.

Not to worry, the jet skier had merely peed his tight suit but was fine now and safely on Hope's rescue boat. She'd have offered some whiskey to warm up but the Wakandan models didn't come stocked with booze and she...wasn't actually there. This remote thing was strange, yet cool.

"From what I'm hearing, the 'baddies' seem more like nuisances than anything else," Hope contributed (and yay, hi Tony). "Scott and Clint won't even break a sweat, most likely." Whomever was controlling the trident and the boxes had probably counted on the relic being the thing to carry out plans; the actual people were just fodder.

She adjusted a few controls at the lab in Wakanda from her spot, pushing buttons the way Shuri had showed her - it was all in a sequence to do what Scott asked. "Another boat, coming right up," she assured, then was driving that one too - it zipped through the water and sloshed right next to the ferry, so the guys could load people onto the just-arrived vessel.

"Yep and I've got an update on that box location," Tony said into the comm after talking to Pepper, and finally getting the ferry out to a safer point where it could start to navigate on its own. "Water's getting higher between Lungomare Adriatico two and eight, Sottomarina. It's that big island to the south of us. Friday's sending the coordinates right now."

While Friday sent the GPS coordinates to the rest of their team, Tony flew toward a small sailboat bobbing around in rough water, using one hand to give the guy a quick lift to one of Hope's remote controlled boats.

"You guys got this. Go team us!" Tony said, in his version of a pep talk.

"On it." Clint followed the coordinates, zipping the boat through the choppy to the designated water. "I'm great at boats."

They were actually near swamped on approach, a strong wave pushing them forward. There was getting to be too much water and not enough places for it to get.

"Look alive, short stuff," Clint told Scott, launching himself at the first goon he saw. The punches were in time with the throbbing of his headache in a way that made it almost easier to deal with.

“Thanks, honey!” Scott had called over his shoulder, once all had been said and done with their evacuees. The rest were in Tony’s capable hands (and Hope’s capable remoting skills) as he and Clint sped toward the coordinates Friday had sent out.

And it was a good thing that Clint was as good at boats as he claimed to be, because the flooding had made navigating this area sort of treacherous. Add to that the Make America Hate Again squad, though, and it was.. still only sort of treacherous, actually. Scott didn’t consider them much of a threat as he hopped out of the boat and went for the nearest doofus, to the point where he wasn’t even sure he needed to employ shrinking and unshrinking. He quickly dispatched of his first opponent and took a few running steps forward before - slap - something connected with his chest.

Scott looked down at the mass of slimy, curling, twisting legs he’d reflexively caught, eyebrow raised. “Uh, I think the flooding is displacing the wildlife,” he said, frantically searching for where the creature had come from - or what kind of physics that had allowed this thing to be catapulted out of the sea.

"I threw that!" one nearby red hat wearing bad guy cried out, triumphantly. "I threw that octopus at you!"

The octopus clung on as another red hat threw what looked to be a lawn chair, right off the top of four story 'boutique' motel right next to the street. Discus throwing style. There were at least twenty men up top, and nearly ten near a bike place. One of those men picked up a bike and threw that in their direction.

"You're in a boat! Paddle your asses outta here!" bike boy hollered, with a fist pump in the air. That hand was clenching a crowbar. "HATE FOREVER!"

A rousing cheer of "HAIL HATE!" could be heard from the rooftop, right before several pieces of furniture and bottles were being thrown down. Along with that were some cups with paper drink umbrellas in fetching shades of bright red, white, or green. Despite being interspersed with things like bedside tables and TVs, it actually looked festive.

Even despite the water damage that was taking place...well...everywhere.

"This is not a hockey game, you don't throw crestaceans!" Technically of course an octupus was a cephalopod, but whatever. "You wanna throw stuff? Catch!" Clint produced a set of throwing stars from within his vest, launching three of them with a flick of his wrist. Their targets yelped as the projectiles found them. Clint went into the rest of the red hats with abandon. Clint drove the hell of his palm into noses, kicked knees until they buckled, and drove elbows into chests until ribs broke. The worst was when one of the hats got a good hit in on the side of his head, sending his already present headache exploding behind his eye. These guys were the worst.

"You got crabs!" one red hat yelled at Clint before he was the recipient of broken ribs. He doubled over sideways into the water with a splash.

Another approached while yelling out, "Ocotopus are actually Cephalo---!" After being the recipient of a Hawkeye Highfive to the face, the baddie pinched their bloody nose before finishing with, "---pods!"

It sounded more like 'pobs' since his nose was broken and already swelling up. He wadded off toward the nearest ice machine.

The guys watching from the rooftop were in an uproar. Some of them had made their way downstairs, and one of the particularly 'bright' ones yelled out to his comrades, "Whatever you do, keep them away from that bike rental thingie!"

They weren't taught covert tactics yet. That was in the next streaming vid that these guys hadn't paid $19.99 to watch. In Europe, that's 17.14 € that they obviously didn't spend during their vacation.

Whatever their financial situation, Clint was making quick work of these red hat wearing dude bros. A couple of them were at the bike rental stand, looking surly as they strove to protect the box hidden within.

Unsure of what to do with his new with his slimy new friend, Scott fumbled with it for a moment or two before ultimately deciding that he ought to wade over into deeper waters and return it to its home. Hopefully it hadn’t been hurt when Mensa over there had decided to huck it at him - and that his friends Genius and Prodigy wouldn’t manage to hit it with their lawn chairs or bikes. Scott squinted up at the rooftop dotted with red hatters, and then noticed the flock (gaggle? legion?) of blockheads by a bike rental stand.

That seemed suspicious in itself, but when one of them broadcasted that the stand needed to be protected, Scott made a break for it. A few of the lackeys had seemed to consider Clint the more dire threat - maybe because Scott was too busy protecting his new octopus friend - which had more or less cleared a path for him. He leapt over the bike rack, foot connecting squarely with the jaw of one. He used the momentum of his landing to punch the other in the gut, and that was that. He was free to poke around the bike rack for the box. It was tucked next to the kiosk, but otherwise not attached to anything. In one fluid motion, Scott shrank and then stepped on it - with a tiny, satisfying crunch. “Box is destroyed,” he said over the comms, relieved to see the water nearby calming. “We did it, gang.”
