Plot Outline & Teams

THINGS TO NOTE:

• In order to hit multiple locations at once, our villainess of the week (former-and-somewhat-current) HYDRA baddie Candice Lee has scattered various remote boxes connected to the trident from her central location. She is able to control the functions of the trident and the boxes they are connected to from there - hence the floods that occur around the world.

• Candy has sent her henchmen to each location to man the boxes. The henchmen won't be too difficult to take on - they're sort of a dumber offshoot of HYDRA. Think neckbeards and red hats with H.A.T.E. on them which actually stands for 'HYDRA Authoritarian Troop Enforcement' because why the hell not? Destroy the boxes, contain the floods, wipe up spills with paper towels, do whatever you want to the henchmen - there will be plenty for our heroes to fight!

• ENJOY!

Team 5 - Sif, Drax, Peter Quill

New Orleans, Louisiana - Can’t you just smell the city? The Beignets and that powdered sugar, the crawfish, tobacco, and honey. Hear those Cajun laughs, all bayou and cajoling. There are two types of people in this world - those who have experienced the wonders of dipping a spoon into seafood gumbo dark as the swamp depths and those who haven’t. Y’all might not have time to do all that, but you will have time to save the world. The box (and the villainess) you’re looking for is located in a desolate seafood shanty right off the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. Maybe also help those on Bourbon Street if you can, since the storm is rising fast.

Peter slapped a mosquito on his neck and scowled. This place was gross and humid and muggy and he really should have worn shorts but no one looked intimidating in shorts.

Maybe the leather jacket could have stayed home, even if he loved his jacket. It was just really warm and that crazy storm wasn't making things better. Peter could have sworn the sky looked swirly and purple and angry, and it kind of made him think that if Thanos was a weather? He would be like this.

Damage control was all they were managing right now, helping people get off of Bourbon Street and into the direction of the military. For once, Peter was happy to see that the government was eager to help and quickly too. The less casualties the better, or so had said Nick Fury. Quill was only slightly bristled when the older man had made it very clear that minimal people were to be injured or killed. Peter had protested that it was generally Drax, and not him and the terrifying look he'd received in response quelled all that.

There was a veiled reference to Estonia, but what did Fury except? It was a literal weapons fight club!! Ugh.

And there was Drax. Eating something. Again. And Sif, looking all warrior goddess like and impressive and Peter felt the need to puff out his chest and look as manly and intimidating as possible. He really wasn't very good at that though.

"This is ridiculous," he muttered to himself. It was looking for a needle in a haystack. "Drax, what are you seeing?"

"I do not know. I have Been Yay powder in my eye," said Drax, who was covered in white powdered sugar.

A bag of beignets tucked in the crook of one muscular arm, and a half eaten pastry was in his hand. He took a bite and began chewing very slowly, watching the waters rise as Quill tried and failed to impressive while standing next to the War Angel.

"I think we should listen to her," he added, his words surprisingly clear considering he was speaking around a mouthful of food.

Sif, of course, had taken the lead and was moving people and sometimes objects as needed. The military people seemed to like and respect her, and she repaid them by keeping Peter and Drax out of the way of people who were actually doing the work. "They're about to start moving the sand bags to block the water. I think Drax would do a good job helping with that. Peter, do you have any technology that will help us locate the source of this?"

"I will do that, and share the ben yays with those helping in solidarity."

Drax moved quickly given how muscular he was. Within seconds he was off and running to help with the sandbags, tossing the bag of beignets to those filling and tying them shut. He was going to make good progress to impress his Asgardian friend, taking several heavy sandbags at once and hucking them onto the pile to create a barrier wall against the incoming water.

No one there batted an eyelash at Drax, thinking that he was one of those quirky characters that frequented the Big Easy.

While she waited for Peter's answer. Sif moved toward the tallest building she could find and went up to the top, hoping for a better view, or that one of the military could tell her where the guts of the storm was. How she wished Thor was here, because she could certainly have used his presence. But Thor was busy in New Asgard, and she understood they were facing their own troubles and needed their king. She would do them all proud as soon as she found the source of the trouble.

Smarter people than Peter had prepared for Sif's question. It was more that Peter had already forgotten about the homing beacon. Realizing that Drax had been drafted i to something, Peter went and stood by Sif, holding the equipment.

With a flick of a switch, a radar screen popped on. After a few moments of reading the data, Peter scanned the city and pointed. "I mean, kinda dumb now that I think about it, but it looks like the storm starts there and that's where we need to go. Think we could go that way?"

Sif had seen the maps of the city. "That's north, toward the lake. Let us requisition transport and ride toward the causeway." Because of course Sif had learned the terrain if she meant to do battle on it.

It took her no time to run back downstairs and requisition motorbikes for the three of them. "If Drax can't ride on his own, he's with you," Sif told Peter and made ready to speed off to the north.

Drax didn't know how to operate Terran machines. He spent a lot of time wandering around and randomly getting into taxis, saying something like 'nachos' and then wondering why people got mad and mentioned shows about freaks when he got out of the vehicle. This was a weird planet.

Meanwhile, some of the red hatted H.A.T.E. bad guys were attacking the people stacking sandbags with sticks and bars, and Drax was putting up a valiant fight to protect them. He was also laughing while doing it, which was easily heard in the comm, "Ah ha, I will show you hate! All over your face! With my fists!"

To the north there was a line of surly young men in white t-shirts and red hats around a dilapidated seafood shack, and they looked ready to stop whoever got in their way to protect the Mistress of HATE. Of course, they weren't aware that an Asgardian and a Guardian of the Galaxy were heading right toward them.

Natasha was keeping an ear on all the comms and tracking the data that was filtering into the command center. The algorithms were sorting and cataloguing data , highlighting connections and possible warnings. She tapped into the NOLA team's comms, "Just a head's up, systems are showing a slightly higher power signature coming from your box location. Not sure what that means, but be on your toes."

"Thank you, Lady Natasha," Sif answered back through her comms. "We will advise of anything we find. Quill and I are heading out on the Causeway where signals here say the storm is sourced, and Drax is defending the sandbagging crew and the rescuers. There are many red-hats here and they say vile and unpleasant things, but they are a distraction and I'm ignoring them." Her tone made clear to Natasha that she'd happily shut some of them up.

Catching site of figures on the causeway, Sif continued, "I have visual contact with red hats on the causeway. At least half a dozen. Quill, be ready."

With his blaster at hand, he grinned fiercely. Even though his rocket boots would have helped him get there faster, there was a sort of power he could behind with a motorcycle.

That kind of horsepower between his legs was sexy.

The stupid red hats were catching up amd with deadly precision, he shot off a succession of shots. No one was allowed to die, but Fury had said nothing about maiming.

Of course, if one got knocked down, it seemed two stood right back up, and it'd get worse before it got better. Reaching into his sidebag , he pulled out an innocuous silver ball. "Setting a bomb," he called out over the system. There was no sense in worrying about the timing. It would detonate after they passed.

Those warehouses looked deserted anyways.

Surrounding the seafood shack, several men standing on tables and the rickety tin roof spotted the pair incoming on their motorcycles. They were there to defend this spot, but this group also had some guns at their disposal. And they were taking shots like they'd be ordered to do.

Inside, the woman who gave those orders nearly broke focus on trying to give New Orleans back to the water it had been claimed from. Candice Lee clenched her hands so tightly over the golden trident that her knuckles went white, and a crease formed between her brows as she fought to worsen the storm as quickly as possible at this location and around the world through the boxes their new scientist created. It was thrilling to feel the swell of power rising like the waves of an angry ocean, water wiping out everything like a ritual cleansing, purging people in a display of raw natural power. Despite the sheer amount of willpower it took to control the relic, she had already seen that HYDRA would rise again with the same ideology, but under a new name.

In the meantime, even with those plans laid out, she wasn't keen on getting caught. She raised the staff up over her head, and with it, the water began to rise...

Sif raised her shield as the red hats took pot shots at her and Quill. They were shouting disgusting things at her about making sandwiches and taking off her shirt. "Men," she told Natasha over the comms with an eyeroll that everyone on the comms could hear in her tone.

The rising water meant it was time to dismount and get to high ground. Sif skidded to a stop and dismounted, drawing her double-bladed sword behind the cover of the shield. Fury had asked her not to kill any of the mortals, but going toe to toe with a goddess was hard on even the strongest man.

Which was probably why they sent out the fellow they did: at least a half a foot taller than Sif, who was no slouch, and holding a baseball bat with both hands. He jumped off the porch into the water that was lapping around the edges of the causeway with a great splash, headed straight for Sif.

"Illegal alien," he told her, "I'm gonna kick your ass back to outer space."

Sif grinned fiercely. "Try it," she suggested, beckoning him onward.

He closed toward her; she let him bring the fight to her, sidestepping when he tried to rush her and hamstringing him as he ran by, so he collapsed into the water. Groaning, he rolled over and tried to swing the bat in Sif's general direction, but she dodged it easily. He managed to sit upright, finding that he couldn't get any power behind his bat. Sif knocked it aside and, circling, reached in from behind to smack him in the head with the pommel of her blde.

"Make a sandwich out of that, asshole," Sif told him as he fell into the water.

In the interest of following Fury's directive, she reached down to drag him to safety by the shirtfront. From behind her, in the direction of the shack, a shot rang out, and her shield rose by reflex to cover her. Even over the rising of the stormy waters, the sound of the ricochet as it bounced off the shield was clear. "You're next," she called to the shooter.

Peter was definitely turned on. There was something about a powerful woman kicking ass and taking names that had him go 'daaamn'.

The pot shot was totally unacceptable though, and before Sif could make her way to the shooter, Peter managed to put a hole through him. Only slightly fatal. Maybe.

Whatever.

As the body fell, he just gave Sif a shrug. Minimal causalities still implied one or two.

"You go in," he shouted over the storm. "I'll clear the back and make sure no one fucking bugs you while you're there. That chick seems crazycakes, and if I gotta pop one in her head, I'll do it."

And where the fuck was Drax, anyways? Was he back yet?

Drax, meanwhile (back at the ranch!)...had protected the emergency personal and volunteers trying to shore up with sandbags. He beat up a lot of attacking red-hat wearing Terrans, having remembered how frail Terrans are. Rather than using his knives, he stuck to using his fists or throwing them into the drink. He was currently trying to get a ride on an airboat to the location, but would be behind them.

It was up to Sif and Peter.

"...barefoot...kitchen," one thrashed HATE dude could be heard whining before sinking down into the water, face down.

Another of his fallen brethren could be heard wailing mournfully, "Girl gamers are fictional...like unicorns!"

The door to the seafood shack slammed open and out came a woman dressed in austere black clothes, with tightly pulled back hair and a stern expression. She looked more like an angry librarian than the leader of a cult. In her hands, she clutched a golden trident, and she thrust it out while glaring, sending a large wall of water rising up and aimed right at them. She clearly wasn't going down without a fight. But from her aura of confidence, she also seemed assured that if she was taken down, there was some groundwork already laid in place.

"If you cut off one head," she cried out, "two more will take its place!"

Sif rolled her eyes. She wasn't going to cut this woman's head off, no matter how tempting. Fury had asked her not to. She was just going to kick the trident-wielder's ass.

Before that, though, she had to ride out this wave, which was enough to almost bowl Sif over. She lost her grip on the giant she'd put down before--so much for good works--but rose again through the surf after the wave passed. Then she was running through the rising water toward her foe. If her armor was ruined by all this half-salt water, Sif was going to take it out of the red-hat leader's hide, Fury or no.

Not forgetting her role, she told comms, "Eyes on the trident. Going in."

"Got it," Peter called out. At least eyes were on, and Sif was striding in looking as bad ass as ever. From his spot, he looked around and realized that it wasn't the best. He'd have to climb up a bit but hey -- rocket boots!

A few bursts later, he was on the roof of the shack. The building was sketchy now, after all the fights, and he found it was easy enough to kick a hole through and not notice.

His role was simple: shoot to maim or at least keep the weird lady in place.

And how to do that? Easy. He shot at her feet, purposefully missing, and ducked quickly. He wanted her to not move backward, instead move forward and meet Sif directly.

Peter hoped it would work.

It worked like a charm and Candice was pinned in place, unable to move back, with what looked like an angry Asgardian coming right for her.

In a last ditch effort, she held the trident out, sending a stream of water at Sif, a huge wave rising behind it. It wouldn't be enough force to stop her, and Candice already looked like she was ready to run. Live to fight another day, at the very least, even if she had to leave the trident behind while trying to retreat.

Sif plowed through the wave, though it slowed her somewhat. She moved to close on Candice, swinging her blade hard. It would take something as strong as the trident to block that swing, and if it landed, Candice was going to be in the hospital.

Candice had the trident in both hands, about to throw it at Sif, but at the last second, her fingers tightened as the blade landed against the golden metal. It let out a loud ringing as the surface was gouged at by the Asgardian blade, and the force of it landing was enough to hurt the woman's hands, causing her to drop the trident entirely.

"Stop! I give up!" Candice Lee yelled. She hadn't expected this sort of show of force against her. Instead, HATE was hoping that sheer numbers might overwhelm any of Earth's superheroes, but these foes were something else entirely. She held up both hands to show she was unarmed. "I surrender."

It didn't mean she would talk when she was in custody. There were plans already laid out that wouldn't be undone now, even if she wasn't there to take the lead.

There was no trickery. Candice was wary but also profoundly guarded, absolutely immobile and her stiff expression betraying nothing when Sif took the trident away from her.

It served its purpose well. She would be content in a cell, knowing she did all she could to give rise to HATE.
