Who: Vision and Thor
What: Helping with the move
When: May, not long after Vision’s arrival
Where: Thor’s place
Rating/Warnings: Green, probably some spoilers

Thor had no idea what he wanted to bring or not. In theory, he wanted to bring everything but Loki had been firm that he needed to de-clutter. Thor had wanted to make a comment about how Val had a greater need of that than he did, but there was no sense in doing that. Instead, Thor nodded and now was standing in his map room thinking he really could take it all. After all, Pangea could happen again...right?

It was why he asked Vision to come over. The other man’s logical nature was what he needed right now. It also allowed him the opportunity to speak with Vision again. It’d been far too long.

“I loathe moving. The transporting, that’s fine. But going through belongings...It’s been quite some time, living in this one space. I’ve accumulated more than I expected and I find I am hard pressed to distance myself from it.” He picked up a random map and sighed. “I am quite at a loss.”

“Consider the size constraints of where you will be moving to,” Vision suggested, as he sorted through a large container filled with various ancient and foreign looking weaponry. He held up an impressive and ornate spear. “This, for example, do you anticipate needing it anytime soon?” His tone was mildly teasing, as he knew Thor was unlikely to want to part with weapons that held significance, but still - he had quite a few, so it was best to ask.

It felt good to be around Thor and his other companions again, it was helping Vision to feel more grounded in this particular part of the universe. Everything felt more real now that he’d seen how everyone was settled here in their own way. The people he knew and cared about in the other universe had been put through so much, all at the cost of Thanos and the war that followed. It was a relief to be doing something simple like helping Thor move, rather than fighting for their lives.

Although Thor knew Vision was joking,Thor still casually reached for the spear as if it was in danger of being tossed. "That was a name day present from a prince of Alfheim."

With minimal effort, Thor balanced the spear on his hand. It was a testament to the craftsmanship, how properly weighted it was.

"I do not even know if he is alive. While my brother has enjoyed realm hopping, I have not." He turned and looked a Vision, a sense of wonderment crossing his face. It wasn't until this moment that he'd really realized that. "I wonder why..."

It was certainly an impressive weapon, and Vision watched Thor’s expression as it shifted; curious of what thought patterns caused him to suddenly become more pensive.

He was still learning how to predict and comprehend the emotions and motivations of humans, but Thor was in a different category. Vision had not gathered as much knowledge when it came to the behavioral patterns of an Asgardian. Maybe it wasn’t so different from the rest of them.

“Is it because you prefer the stability of staying in one place? Somewhere to build and put down roots, so to speak?” he asked curiously, just guessing at this point. For all the time he had spent with Thor - planning or sparring; they hadn’t yet had much time for many in depth conversations. Something he hoped they would have the time and freedom to do in the future, in this timeline.

"Perhaps..." Actually, that was most likely it. It wasn't that he preferred it -- it was more that his entire adult life had had him traveling everywhere, setting the nine realms right and doing his father's bidding. He'd never had a home of his own that wasn't connected to his family. The royal palace. The Asgardian compound...

Thor smiled at Vision. "I think as well, I have had enough of adventures for a moment. Haven't you? True, there is nothing quite so exhilarating as armed combat, and I would never give that up... but since Jane and I have reconciled, I've learned to appreciate a simpler, more humble existence."

And those ever present dreams kept reinforcing this.

"What about you? Do you have any plans?"

“I know exactly what you mean,” Vision responded, a somewhat world weary smile on his face as he listened as Thor spoke. “Though I will not shy from it in the future if it comes down to that, I have had my share of battle; and I am ready to put down my own roots.”

The battle at Wakanda in the other universe had been so brutal and there were so many losses; he found the only thing he wanted was the relative peace and simplicity of a life he could spend here with Wanda - free from the threat of Thanos. He could handle just about anything else that came his way, and was pleased that it seemed that Thor could relate to such a feeling.

“I am glad to hear you have reconciled with Jane,” he said with a smile, “And I too can appreciate the desire for a life of stability. It is what I seek as well, with Wanda. We’ve moved in to the apartment at 30 Warren,” he explained. “Sometimes I look at her and… I can barely believe that I have a second chance, that all of this is real.” He was pensive for a moment, as if reminding himself that the worries he once held were ones he could start to let go of.

“Does Jane plan on joining you, when you move?” he asked.

Thor didn’t know that Vision was with Wanda, and he realized that he hadn’t spoken to Wanda in ...how long? He knew that Jane did on occasion, but he hadn’t really talked to many outside of his inner circle for a long time. In fact, when was the last time he spoke to Tony about anything that wasn’t official business?

He’d have to change that.

“No,” Thor responded to Vision, “she is still ill and requires to be close to her medical team. Dr. Christine Palmer has been assisting, trying to minimize any actual hospitalization. She has quite a clinic there at Stark’s Tower. It’s interesting to see. “ And he found it even stranger that there had been no medical facilities for anyone prior to Banner and Dr. Palmer’s arrival. He was again thankful that Eir had survived Ragnarok -- the loss of that knowledge would have been profound.

“And congratulations with regards to Wanda. You both deserve happiness, and I am glad it is with each other. I too felt the same, like I was given a second chance and ...well, these .. dreams , well. They’ve made me slightly uncomfortable.” He gave Vision a look. “I can see what my life could have been and it is all too real. If certain things hadn’t happened ..like Loki being here...Jane …it could easily have been my reality.”

“Thank you,” he said, smiling broadly at Thor’s congratulations. “It is a gift I never expected to have been given, and I intend to do everything in my power to hold onto that.” It seemed as if this universe had been far kinder to the both of them, for reasons Vision could only guess at. Which at times made him feel ill at ease, for all that he wasn’t able to form a logical reason for why and how he was here. But he was glad to hear that Thor had found his own happiness here, with Jane; and that she was receiving the best care available.

“I understand the feeling,” he responded, empathy in his tone because what Thor described was a sentiment he’d thought many times since his own arrival here. “Seeing your life in another universe is jarring, especially when those events are painful. I have not had any dreams myself, which means that what happened to me in the other universe - my death - has remained permanent. It isn’t a feeling I particularly know what to do with, other than to feel immensely grateful that I remain here.” Which was a bit of an understatement.

“What else have your dreams shown you?” he asked, curious as he sorted through another box - this one filled with various maps and scrolls.

"Well, you were still dead," Thor admitted with a shrug. "Many people were. Some died. Sacrificed themselves."

He frowned a bit, not wanting to dwell on it. The fact that Nat and Tony were no longer living in some universe... how much loss could one person take?

"And I gained a significant amount of weight. Had a very epic beard." Unconsciously, he reached up and stroked the neatly trimmed beard he was currently sporting.

"I admit, I have thought about growing it out...my hair as well. I've gotten used to the shorn locks though." Jane seemed to like it too.

"It's not very exciting..." He paused and suddenly, his eyes widened. "Oh! And we moved to Tonsberg which, oddly enough is what is happening now. Certain paths seem to intersect."

He chuckled at the comment about the epic beard, then wondered idly to himself if that’s something Wanda would like. It didn’t take much to shift his appearance after all. She seemed content with whatever he chose to look like, however - red or otherwise.

“I think I can picture the beard and hair. Didn’t that get in the way when fighting?” he asked, genuinely curious. Bucky had fairly long hair as well. Perhaps he would also ask the same of him, when next he saw him. He had so many questions of humans (and non-humans, like Thor). Whenever Vision fought, the only thing that really moved was the cape and most of the time it didn’t matter because he was altering his density to be intangible, so it wasn’t really an issue.

“That is reassuring,” he commented warmly when Thor mentioned that both versions of him had wound up moving to Tonsberg. “A place for your people to settle and dwell safely. Will you still be visiting New York from time to time?” he asked, lifting the box he’d been sorting through onto the table - thinking the maps and scrolls were probably items Thor would want to take with him. “I will miss our sparring sessions,” he said with a smile.

Thor shook his head. “I braid my hair when it is long...and it was long for many many centuries.” He could not remember exactly when he had decided to have long hair ...it just was. “I ...was not very brave when they cut it,” he added with an embarrassed smile. “It is strange, how one becomes attached to things that really have no meaning...but it was my hair, and now it is gone. I can see why my other self wanted to retreat to that image.”

“And as for New York, yes, I will be back and forth regularly. Jane will not be coming initially, due to her medical condition. With Stormbreaker, I can control the bifrost, so I will be able to visit when I wish.” He smiled. “And you are also welcome at any time, of course. I wish for all my friends to visit my new lands.”
