Fighting angry fish in tornadoes took more of a toll than Loki thought it would. Or it could have been due to the somewhat questionable stunt of traversing from a Starbucks bathroom several blocks over, to where his brother and Valkyrie were engaged in glorious battle. He was going to have to be more careful choosing what paths he attempted to walk through next time. Once inside, it could be difficult to double back and find the original entrance. It could also collapse from either end and he would be trapped between places, possibly for an eternity.
If only things were as simple as the sorcerer known as Strange was capable of. That was an entirely different school of magical philosophy, and he would need to obtain the knowledge by which Strange created those portals with such ease, without ever stooping so low as to ask. It wouldn't matter, for he'd never be granted that, freely. If the opportunity presented itself, he would have to seize it for himself.
In the meantime, his fellow Revengers had yet to return from their battle. Loki laid a normal (and still sleepy) Darcy down on her bed in the room she shared with Valkyrie, and proceeded to clean himself up, which including removing a teeny tiny amount of dormouse vomit on his neck. That accomplished, he donned some casual attire and sluggishly made his way into the kitchen for much needed wine and frosted pop tarts. The berry kind. With colorful sugar sprinkles. He did not take only one pouch. Oh no, he took the entire unopened box for himself - like any bad roommate would do - and dragged himself over to the couch, so he could sprawl onto it like a lazy bastard.
"Ahhh, yes. This is much more to my liking," he said out loud, looking every bit like an overindulgent feline on the verge of a cat nap.
Thor had enjoyed the glorious battle, though he had some unfinished business with his brother. Just as the battle was getting underway, he had found himself messaging none other than Sif! She was more than just another Asgardian. She was one of his dearest friends.
And she’d been there for days.
And Loki knew about it.
He hoped that he would find him back at their temporary home. He stormed into the apartment. “Loki!” he called out, hopped up on residual battle endorphins.
Loki coughed on a bite of pop tart and took a sip of wine, trying to sit up. It took him a little longer than it usually would. He arched his back a little to stretch it out, and smiled at Thor.
"Ah, there you are, and I see you are no worse for wear." He held out the box of toaster tarts to him. "Care for one?"
Thor was in no mood for Loki’s carefree attitude. “I do not care for a tart. I care to know why you did not tell me of the Lady Sif’s arrival!” he said. He was cross, but he was holding back his anger to hear what his brother has to say for himself. “She said that she came here and was turned away. Is this so, brother?” he demanded.
"Nay, for she left of her own accord," Loki said with a sigh, slouching down onto the couch, his head tipped back against it so he could stare up at the ceiling. "I offered her wine and some of these tarts, but she did not seem inclined. I imagine she does not care for my company. That is not strange, for she never tolerated me before."
Sif never paid him any attention as her focus had always been on mooning over Thor, which had been another source of jealousy for him. And when she did finally pay him any mind, it was because she hated him, and she was still mooning over Thor. Norns have mercy! He almost rolled his eyes at the thought of it, but stopped short. There was one tidbit of information that did prevent his inviting Sif to stay, that he had neglected to tell others about. It wasn't because he was afraid of the challenge of having another person there. He wasn't. It was that the on-site manager had mentioned a letter and (due to his plotting) he forgot all about informing the others about their living situation. Or quite possibly lack thereof.
"Brother, do you recall the recent revelries?" he asked, looking anywhere but at Thor. As in, his gaze was flickering to and fro, trying to find something to focus on that was not Thor's face.
While Thor could tell that his brother was not lying outright, he was also very sure that he was leaving out a world of detail in the retelling. He knew that his friends often only tolerated Loki, which never much bothered Thor. He wanted Loki with them, and so he was, and anyone who disliked the idea was free to find other friends besides the future king of Asgard. But as they’d gotten older, it was clear that the dissent bothered Loki often, and sometimes caused him to act out more than usual.
“Indeed. It was a grand occasion for all involved. What of it?” he asked. He wasn’t sure where his brother was going with that, but he had an uneasy feeling.
If Thor was feeling uneasy, Loki visibly looked it. He had to school his expression so that he didn't wince, at least not outright. He caught himself before it went too far.
"Oh, to be fair, it was very festive indeed." Loki drew in a deep breath to steady himself, a clear hint that he was about to deliver bad news and was on edge about it. "While others were helping revelers find their way through the smoke, the one who manages this place said unto me that parties were forbidden. Then she said I was to expect a letter at this week's end, which will not end well. After much thought on the matter, I surmise that we may soon find ourselves without a home."
Thor did not like to have his home so easily threatened. If they wished to eat, drink, and be merry, who should stop them from doing so? Obviously they needed a larger place, and one that had no such stringent restrictions. “We must find a better place. One where the Lady Sif may join our group.” He still had not told her of their companions’ fate, but he needed the right moment to do so. He only hoped Loki didn’t beat him to it and make a mess of it.
“Where might we find a residence that is a building unto itself, without strangers sharing walls with us?” he asked. “We should find one of those.” It seemed a simple solution. There had to be some somewhere.
Loki found that living under such restrictions was becoming unbearable. He wasn't exactly known for following rules. He either broke them or bent them to his liking, although he usually did so with stealth. Thor did not, and so Loki appeared troubled, and even more tired than before.
Sif living there posed no problem to his current plans. He had many ways of going about things, as he had done under the noses of the entire court of Asgard and Heimdall. Before, it had been for fun. Now, it was a chore and one that he wished, for the first time, that he didn't have to do it all alone.
Despite such thoughts, he gave Thor a smile and leaned in just enough to nudge their shoulders together for a moment.
"I believe that is a good idea," he agreed. "I knew you would want Sif here, the moment that she arrived. Though she loathes me, I have no objections. Yet knowing what I do, you could see it would be poor form to invite her to where we will soon not be living. I did not tell her anything else. There was no chance to, as she left with such haste. I had no wish to incur her wrath nor any blame."
